Setting aside Sandy's women's party views of what a woman is, there is a fascinating dynamic between the natal women (Toksvig & Pascoe) seemingly excluding Jordan 'penis piano player' Gray).
Not least when the topic of discussion was the physiology of women making them better at ultramarathons than men 👀😁

My first thought is, 'Oh god, do I have to do ultramarathons now in order to woman properly?'

DuesToTheDirt · 06/02/2024 22:03

I read an article that said the crossover point, where women are better at ultramarathons than men, is about 200 miles. Get training, everyone!

Anothernewname123 · 06/02/2024 22:05

Try to catch the episode on catch up.
Sandy basically told all the female biology facts to Sarah over the head of Jordan, who remained silent except a weak (laughter free) comment about being worse at running than they used to be.... Confused
It was just so obvious who the women were and what they were talking about. Where the natural allegiance and shared experiences were. Despite public proclamations to the contrary.

Thank god I fell asleep waiting for it to start!

This was the subject of the question 'who is faster, men or women?'
There was also a great interesting fact about a women winning the Montane Spine Ultra whilst stopping at every water station to express breast milk for her 14 month old. Sandi actually directed that fact to Sarah 'you'll like this one' or similar.

Jordan 'I'm a woman' Gray was as much of a spare part as Jason Manford and Alan Davis.

I didn't watch it but Pascoe is fully TWAW. What is Sandi's stance?

ArabellaScott · 06/02/2024 22:14

Not in the past.

EnfysPreseli · 06/02/2024 22:25

I was really surprised how unwoke and terfy the programme was. It felt unintentional as well. As if everyone had forgotten (apart from the bit where either Jason Manford or Alan Davies said he was afraid of being cancelled) that they were supposed to pretend that biological sex wasn't a thing. It wouldn't have got past a sensitivity reader if the dialogue was written down.

HearMeSnore · 06/02/2024 22:49

Hmm. Maybe I'll give it a watch, then. I switched off when I realised Piano-Knob was on it. But if there is an overall feeling of terfiness I might be able to stomach it.

Kernackered · 06/02/2024 23:09

The QI elves on their Fish podcast used to be a bit twaw and I swear lately I've been picking up terfy vibes, particularly Anna and Andy. They write the scripts for QI. Just sayin'.

mrsmalaprop · 06/02/2024 23:10

It's interesting in that any terfiness is purely accidental, as they are all true believers in the dogma.

Almost like they are willingly refusing to join any dots...

Thanks - this is exactly what I was trying to convey. You said it far better than me 😊

Andy also writes for Private Eye which has terf tendencies.

Sadly this is no longer true. The Spine race was run at the beginning of this year and Jasmine Paris’s record was beaten by over 10 hours by a man and the man who finished 2nd also beat her record. Paris’s effort was phenomenal, but even without the stops to express breastmilk she wouldn’t have been able to run it 10 hours quicker.

INOV8 Athlete Jack Scott Smashes 268-Mile Spine Race Record

History was made at the 2024 Spine Race with winner Jack Scott smashing the course record. The INOV8 athlete completed the 268-mile winter race, widely regarded as one of the toughest endurance events in the world, in an astonishing time of xx hours...

Sandi invited Izzard on her 'women only' travel programme.

It's pretty gutting that JP doesn't hold the record anymore, but the conditions were near perfect this year (or as perfect as they're likely to ever be), whereas Jasmin had a horrific first two days when her record was set. Barring injury or illness it was no big surprise Jack Scott managed to crack it, although 10 hours is such a huge margin it's hard to imagine it ever being beaten again...

MrsJamin · 07/02/2024 06:01

The cognitive dissonance from pascoe and toksvig is palpable! They know really what a woman is. I bet there was awkwardness backstage afterwards with Jordan.

littleblackcat27 · 07/02/2024 06:26

I bet there wasn't. I watched it and picked up on none of this. I've had to check what all your odd acronyms mean and reckon I'm in the TWAW camp - which will make me a Very Bad Person on this board.

I think what it demonstrates, conditions notwithstanding, that the idea that there maybe a sport, or distance within a sport at which women have an advantage over men will be slowly disproven and the male advantage in sport will be universal. Not that this denigrates women’s achievements; there are still exceptional women doing exceptional things. Courtney Dauwalter is an exceptional woman doing exceptional things in ultra running but her records are still several hours behind the men’s.

I think this has a benefit. Currently when male advantage in sport is discussed someone pulls out the “what about ultra running?!” as if it’s some form of gotcha like Michael Phelps. So to demonstrate that male advantage is constant and that women’s achievements are special for being women’s achievements gives consistency.

Baircasolly · 07/02/2024 06:50

Sara Pascoe has had two children in quick succession, both in her 40s I think. I remember watching a big rant she did recently about the disparities between men/women when it comes to parenting (but obvs I can't find it again just now!)

There's nothing like the shit-show that is pregnancy, labour, breastfeeding, default-parenting etc etc to really highlight some key differences between men and women. (for clarity: I'm not saying for one minute that women without children "don't get it", or that women without children aren't proper women, or any such nonsense. I'm just saying that for some of us, we didn't fully get it until we became parents, myself included.)
