Setting aside Sandy's women's party views of what a woman is, there is a fascinating dynamic between the natal women (Toksvig & Pascoe) seemingly excluding Jordan 'penis piano player' Gray).
Not least when the topic of discussion was the physiology of women making them better at ultramarathons than men 👀😁

TWAM, yes. All day, every day, until the end of time. Shouldn’t take a special anonymous internet board to be able to say this.

If you think TWAW, you just believe in something that doesn’t work in practice. But that’s ok, those kinds of people have always existed, too. A bit like the die-hard communists who were still in denial in 1991. Or the Germans who couldn’t accept that they lost the First World War. Both trotted out the same line: “if only people had believed more, if only there hadn’t been traitors in our midst”. Not: “this is just a bad idea that didn’t work, couldn’t work.”

I bet there was awkwardness backstage afterwards with Jordan.

I bet there wasn't. I watched it and picked up on none of this. I've had to check what all your odd acronyms mean and reckon I'm in the TWAW camp - which will make me a Very Bad Person on this board.

You're not a bad person! I bit ignorant but that's maybe not your fault. You'll get there in the end. <patronising head pat>

littleblackcat27 · 07/02/2024 07:51

@GordoStevensMustache hehe - thanks for the patronising head pat.

I'm 59, I'm not ignorant, and I'm not going to change my mind.

LindorDoubleChoc · 07/02/2024 07:54

I'm slightly confused. OP thinks Sandi and Sarah P had a special bond or understanding because they are both women, and Piano Knob was excluded.

But that's not Sandi's daytime stance is it? She's TWAW all the way isn't she? I don't know about Sarah P, hardly know anything about her. I watched it last night and didn't particularly pick up on any atmosphere.

in what way can a man ‘be’ a woman?
If you aren’t ignorant then it should be really easy for you to explain?

EmpressaurusOfTheScathingTinsel · 07/02/2024 07:56

Sandi’s Women’s Equality Party was about gender rather than sex right from the start.

littleblackcat27 · 07/02/2024 07:58

@Gymrabbit Aye - right you are

littleblackcat27 · 07/02/2024 07:59

Look up the term 'pedantic assinine semantics' and you're there !

I think what it demonstrates, conditions notwithstanding, that the idea that there maybe a sport, or distance within a sport at which women have an advantage over men will be slowly disproven and the male advantage in sport will be universal. Not that this denigrates women’s achievements; there are still exceptional women doing exceptional things. Courtney Dauwalter is an exceptional woman doing exceptional things in ultra running but her records are still several hours behind the men’s.

I think this has a benefit. Currently when male advantage in sport is discussed someone pulls out the “what about ultra running?!” as if it’s some form of gotcha like Michael Phelps. So to demonstrate that male advantage is constant and that women’s achievements are special for being women’s achievements gives consistency.

Edited

Yes I think you're right. Also, I don't know anything about the physiological side but I've always assumed women are so good at ultra running because over such huge distances, the psychological aspect becomes so important - many people pull out because they just mentally can't do it anymore. There's never going to be a sport that relies purely on physical strength where women have the edge over men.

I remember about 15-20 years ago there was speculation as women's sport climbing was really taking off, that as climbing is dependent on having a favourable strength-weight ratio rather than pure strength, then women could in theory one day overtake men due to their lighter frames. It hasn't come even close to happening.

This 'feminist' board is pathetic - attacking a very small minority of society for what purpose? Does it make you feel good? All the GC bollocks is utterly pathetic. Get a grip.

Try live and let live - or mind your own business.

I don't think Quentin Crisp had an easy time back in the day; and it's very sad that there is still so much prejudice in our 'progressive' society.

I have a niece who is gay, and her best friend is trans - and has consequently been bullied in school for the past 4 years - relentlessly. Her friend is kind, intelligent and fun - and does not give one shit about outdoing women in sports etc This person is not going to change back to being male. Ever.

So am I not allowed to like this person, or call her by a female name or pronoun? Or be supportive in any way? Nooooo - not according to the TERF laws on this board.

Beamur · 07/02/2024 08:13

I thought that the ultra running advantage was due to women having greater capacity than men in terms of calories intake and spend (mostly because of breastfeeding) Hence the beauty of a breastfeeding woman taking the record (albeit not keeping it).

NotBadConsidering · 07/02/2024 08:13

Support who you want, like who you want, use the wrong sex pronoun all you want, just don’t write it into legislation and expect the rest of us to comply to your belief system [shrug].

ArabellaScott · 07/02/2024 08:13

We have terf law, now? Do you mean the SSEs in the Equality Act?

GailBlancheViola · 07/02/2024 08:15

Ah the usual illogicality, hyperbole, lies about what GC is and insults from the TWAW believer I see. Pathetic indeed.

Oh and it isn't an acronym.

But that’s my point, it was assumed to be something like that to explain how Paris was so exceptional but the reality is male physiology wins out in the end.

Interesting, I didn't know that. The truth is though that Jasmin Paris is an exception - women aren't winning ultramarathons all over the place, although they do beat men in greater numbers than in standard running distances.

My son is gay. His best friend is trans/non-binary. They (the friend) has been abused and assaulted for most of their life. They are kind, gentle, funny and if I was allowed i would adopt them.

Does that mean I think they aren't actually female? No. And they are painfully aware of that thanks to the abuse.
Does that mean that male born people should be allowed in women's spaces? No. Because they are male. Even the nice ones who don't want to win at sports.

Just off to find my popcorn BRB.

There won’t be anything much to see. Black Cat can’t answer the question, so deflected and started to throw insults.

My daughter also has various friends who claim they are trans. I would always be polite and those I’ve met are lovely, but I still know they have a sex and can’t change it. I also suspect that pretending to be the opposite sex isn’t actually the answer to strong psychological confusion about, or hatred of the self as you are, which ultimately is what transitioning is meant to cure.

When it comes to Sandy and Sarah, I suspect the exchange demonstrates what we all know. When it comes down to it, anyone who claims they believe men are women is lying. There are various reasons they are lying, usually because they believe it’s kind, and perhaps that’s because various medics told us that’s what’s needed, but when it comes down to it, a lie is what it is.

Winter of 2024. A loose alliance of GC ultras roam the wastes of Terf Island, enforcing Terf Law by the use of stickers, songs and Paddington Hard Stares.

BackToLurk · 07/02/2024 08:38

Certainly not while people continue to paint them into a corner

RainWithSunnySpells · 07/02/2024 08:52

The idea that a male person (or indeed any male mammal) has ever managed to 'change' to a state of not being male is laughable because it is biologically impossible. They don't need to change back because that's what they are, all the time, however they present, for as long as they live.

You don't really think TWAW otherwise you'd not believe that this friend was ever male. That makes you a TERF love.
