Why is Mumsnet so GC?

ireallycantthinkofaname · 03/02/2024 00:18

Maybe an odd question but I've never come across another space, online or otherwise, where being GC is the norm. IRL I only ever discuss GC views openly with one family member, whose stance on it is similar to my own, though, so I'm not saying it's unwelcome.... Just curious how/why it's come about. Any thoughts or theories?

'Lost in a genderless void clutching our bananas'

Are they metaphorical bananas, actual bananas or a euphamism using bananas?

ErrolTheDragon · 22/02/2024 09:55

copilot has got it completely arse about face attributing that to feminists though!

I know. Even the LLM couldn’t figure out what any of the positions might actually be.

DialSquare · 22/02/2024 09:58

It's the majority of Transwomen clutching their bananas for dear life that got us in to this mess in the first place.

Helleofabore · 22/02/2024 10:00

Well Red, it is remarkably messy, complex, pyschodelically swirling, manifold, labyrinthine, recondite, and intricate, so none of us can explain sex. We cannot recognise it under any efforts to disguise it.

what if I am in your space?
would you say it to my face?

what if all the legal courts
say I can be in your sports?

what if laws are made for me
stopping you from stopping me?

say it!
say it!
make it true
say that I am just like you

I do not want to tell a lie
and say that you're the same as I

I will not say it just for you
I will not say what isn't true
I will not say it from a jail

I will always know you're …

Part 2. The conclusion is a masterpiece.

Beware the quantum fallacy lest we find ourselves lost in a tenderness void, clutching our bananas for dear life.

Edited

I don't have a banana to clutch!

I'm doomed!

That was an absolute joy to read!

It's just something else to remember before I leave the house; coat, keys, phone, bag, purse, banana, existence.

Unfortunately the very word 'feminist' has been co-opted and redefined to include males.Hmm

Emotionalsupportviper · 22/02/2024 10:16

Girlontherailreplacementbusservice · 22/02/2024 09:29

@Helleofabore oh they have definitely read the 'women use X words per day, men use less than half that number' statistic and decided they need to use allllllll the words so they are in the women category.
Hair, heel, lipstick, wittering on - that is the essence of woman forget that exclusionary biology nonsense.

They don't realise that the X words a day that women use are 98% referring to other people/things - discussing work, sorting doctors appointments, talking to schools, comforting bereaved people, conversations how best to help elderly parents, sorting out mistakes with online orders, booking a plumber, and yes - sharing a bit of fun with friends.

All of these conversations involve more words than "ME, ME, ME, ME, ME, BIGOT, ME, ME, ME, ME, ME, ME, ME, TERF, ME, ME, ME, ME, ME, MISGENDERING, ME, ME, ME, ME, ME, LITERAL VIOLENCE, ME, ME, ME, other random salad , ME, ME, ME etc"

Words have meanings . . .

Cake is the universal anaesthetic.

I think this occasion calls for some Eurovision.

I give to you the delight that is Subwoolfer - Give That Wolf a Banana

Check out the lyrics!

Well, it's no 'My lovely horse', but it should have won.

It's a great poem, and I remember Julia Long reading it at one of the first Standing for Women events.

Don't be so old fashioned and bigoted. Words can mean whatever you want them mean. It so hateful for everyone to insist that fish means fins and scales and living in water. My dog self IDs as a fish so fishes can have legs and fur and live on land.
See it's easy, let go of the 'meaning' nonsense and you will feel so much better.

How have I not known of the existence of this until now?

I now want a banana purely so that I can call it Keith!

Plus if I eat a whole cake in one sitting will @IcakethereforeIam temporarily blink out of existence?

IcakethereforeIam · 22/02/2024 11:03

I used to think sometimes when I was driving that I'd forgotten to turn my visibility on. It all makes sense now, I must have left my existence in my other coat (or @Boiledbeetle was eating cake).

I once wrote 'hi, I'm Olly, will you be my friend?' on an orange. No-one could bring themselves to eat it.

No idea. But I’ve decided a name change is in order. I will be featuring in future threads as ClutchingOurBananas.

"If a person looks 'male or female enough' to assign them a category one way or the other then, because we have been trained from birth to see humans as only one pole or another on a range of expressions, we do so."

Nope. No training needed.

A baby can detect sex from observing a human. So can most people. It may be more difficult to detect in female people after testosterone, but even then it is not 'impossible.

Life must be really hard when you have been led to believe that people, particularly female people cannot perceive who is male after watching them move, and if needed hearing them speak. Certainly after some interaction it is quite likely. There is a range of cues. Even those who had their puberty stopped tend to also have cues. including height.

This happens with or without wearing 'feminine' clothes and makeup and whatever. This is probably the thing that infuriates so many people.

I'm sorry it conflicts with your ideology but this axiomatic stance doesn't always match reality. My sister has two children. I've been in their lives since birth. Both of them are very, very blunt and full of questions about the world and would not hesitate to mention if they had even the slightest inclination that my sex at birth was male. Neither of them has ever had the slightest hint; we've never needed to mention it to them because there has been no reason to do so.

We do not observe genetic sex in day to day life. We observe the results of sex hormones on receptive cells.

You really don't see things at all with clear and unimpeded ego can you.

Your sister's children have been told YOU are somehow female. They have been taught this by your sister and YOU!

That you cannot see this is fucking concerning.

That you cannot comprehend that people doing things to smooth YOUR way have led you to believe things that simply are not true is most likely wrong on their part, but obviously they are either so deeply entrenched in your ideology themselves OR they are oblivious to the repercussions of simply letting people believe things because of kindness.

This isn't hard to understand at all. Your siblings children have been taught to ignore their own instincts because their family is being kind to you.

This is just another example of male entitlement. That and the fact that you cannot even see what happened.
