Why is Mumsnet so GC?

ireallycantthinkofaname · 03/02/2024 00:18

Maybe an odd question but I've never come across another space, online or otherwise, where being GC is the norm. IRL I only ever discuss GC views openly with one family member, whose stance on it is similar to my own, though, so I'm not saying it's unwelcome.... Just curious how/why it's come about. Any thoughts or theories?

Why is there such a fixation on the ways that the polypeptide chains in our cells are arranged? It's so self-defeating.

I've never heard any mention of polypeptide chains on this board beforeConfused (I'd have noticed, I'm professionally very interested in protein structures but it's got bugger all to do with feminism.)

Perhaps you meant nucleic acid chains, as a roundabout way of saying 'biological sex'?. If you don't understand why that is important to females in general and feminists in particular, you've not been listening to us.

Errol our shrill female voices make us unintelligible to the male ear. We keep seeing evidence of this on post after post.

It must be so very very hard to hear that all those people telling you that your are so very special and cutting edge were just trying to make you feel good. But that they are lying. And that nothing has made you a female person and nothing you do makes you doing it as 'a female person'. Still a male person doing stuff that either sex human can do.

Transphobic bits = men aren't women.

Nobody cares anymore.

lostwithoutpronouns · 18/02/2024 18:15

Relevant to both the thread topic and the derail: I wasn't GC until I read and met males with trans identities.

I went optimistically along with the idea that this was a movement aligned with feminist interests.

It didn't take many newspaper columns and then personal interactions to put me right on that.

On mn of course it's mainly reading insights from so many perceptive women. But also helpful that TRAs pop in to tell us all about themselves.

Why are people so obsessed with how protons, neutrons and electrons are arranged? It’s all so pointless and self-defeating.

Because, you know, it makes no difference whether you’ve got Helium, Carbon or Magnesium - does it? Or what form of carbon you’ve got. It’s all just a petty obsession and you’re all so regressive focusing on the vastly different properties of materials based on this tedious stuff.

Did the masculinium enter my body at the moment of fertilisation or was it added later?

I think that's the case for many people.

Yep - that's right - when sperm meets egg with that Y chromosome.

Gender is just cultural bullshit. It’s got fuck all to do with the biology and chemistry.

You know that. But still we get pseudoscience and general bollocks of every flavour from you on repeat.

I used to. Now I enploy someone else to!

You promised you'd keep quiet about our "arrangement". I resign! And I'm taking my sock folding device with me.

It’s the Y chromosome that does it can’t do much about that

JacksonLambsEatIvy · 18/02/2024 18:31

Honestly, ‘masculinium’. 🙄🙄🙄

The fact you think that’s actually a clever response - making up something that sounds like a chemical element to try to reify gender stereotypes - speaks volumes.

Either you haven't read The Female Eunuch or you are a lot older than I thought.

My exact thought - what was TFE, 1970?

Tell you what. How about you 'educate' us and post the medical literature to 'educate us' all? I look forward to this one.... I really hope you finally produce some evidence to back up your words.

Theeyeballsinthesky · 18/02/2024 18:41

I dunno @JacksonLambsEatIvy are you sure you’re an actual woman what with all this science knowledge? Surely sciencing is only for men while us women flutter & giggle and paint our nails

Crankywiddershins · 18/02/2024 18:43

@ButterflyHatched "Did the masculinium enter my body at the moment of fertilisation or was it added later?" Right first time! It came into the egg with the sperm and it's been swimming about in every cell of your body ever since! "Masculinium" is a fantastic word btw, makes the rest of your posts worth wading through.

Honestly, I assumed it was some new, bullshittery pseudo science which TRA's are pushing.

A note, don't Google masculinium. It takes you to a very weird blog.

A lot more of my body is made of polypeptide chains than the pre-translation nucleic acid chains that code for them but maybe the magical sex essence only exists in those?

I assumed that was the point. That people would look it up.

But I am prepped ready to receive the education about masculinium.... It should be great to learn new information.

Helleofabore · 18/02/2024 18:49

Oh it is infuriating to read this pseudo-scientific bullshit being spread around with the clear intent to try to make it hard for people to argue against you.

It does not make you look clever.

Especially given the egregious hypocrisy of asking where the magical sex essence is. From someone who is absolutely wedded to actual magical thinking about innate gender identities.

It’s like reading essays written by an arrogant undergrad who missed all the classes and is hoping that copious use of the thesaurus will hide their total absence of knowledge or understanding of the material.

Helleofabore · 18/02/2024 18:53

That 'magic sex essence' was already coded in the sperm I am afraid.

And we don't need any analytical tool to see that 'magic sex essence'. It is observable in every. single. post. We have been telling you about your posts for years now. I think that 'magic sex essence' is so plentiful in your case that you cannot see what we have been saying. And you are surrounded by people being 'kind' to you that they never told you the truth. Or they did, and you couldn't believe it.

Waitingfordoggo · 18/02/2024 18:55

BH is so close to getting this but isn’t quite there yet.

The moment at which sperm meets egg is indeed the moment someone is conceived as a male or female. Masculinity and femininity aren’t part of the equation at all as they have nothing to do with biology.

Hiding your lack of knowledge or coherent thought behind impenetrable text or made up concepts and words is a common tactic for a particular sub group of people.
