There's so much going on atm, and I know we all despair sometimes, so I just wanted to mention my recent experience.
I was admitted to hospital via A&E last week. Not once was I asked about gender. I saw on my wristband that it said Female, but nobody had needed to ask me, I'm pleased to say.
I was put on a ward with 4 other women and the bathroom was single sex, for our use only.
All the other toilets that I saw were clearly marked M or F, barring a unisex enclosed toilet by the a&e beds.
I'm home now and no real point to this op, but to say the madness isn't everywhere.
I believe it will be stopped soon.
Don't lose hope.

Thank you. I hope you're all better or very much on the mend.

The problem is if someone comes in “identifying female” they too will get a female wristband, a bed in that four bedded bay and access to the loo.

It saddens me greatly.

I’m staff.

things are starting to change. But very very slowly.

Glad you had a positive experience.

My smear test was due around the same time that the NHS Confederation guidance came out.
www.nhsconfed.org/publications/leading-all-supporting-trans-and-non-binary-healthcare-staff

I used to be ok with male doctors providing intimate care, but I definitely don't want to be in a situation where I ask for same sex care and a trans woman appears and I'm there to validate an identity. No thank you.

I spoke to my GP's receptionist and she was baffled by my questions. If course we respect patient wishes for same sex care. Of course we send a woman when you ask for a woman. I don't think she's seen the guidance on this. Although I'm still unclear what status guidance from the Confederation has within the NHS. But how many women are self excluding from healthcare because they don't trust the NHS? One is too many.

The staff were wonderful ime, and I have nothing but admiration for them, and their ability to work under such pressure.
I feel as though they are very adept in dealing with all sorts of characters. I couldn't imagine them accepting any nonsense.
I accept its logistics and numbers, maybe I was just lucky.
