#boycott ripcurl

I know nothing about surfing, but have been vaguely aware of this in the last few days. Am I right that Ripcurl is a company selling surfboards and surfing clothing? And that they have, in rapid succession, done the following:

1. Fired a woman who had a very successful career as a surfer in spite of having only one arm, who had been the 'face' of the company in their advertising, because she expressed reservations or possibly even outright opposition to women's sport having to be opened up to male participants.
2. Replaced her with a transwoman.
3. Fired the transwoman after a huge pushback and cobbled together new adverts and videos featuring a few glamorous models in scanty bikinis.

None of which has gone down well.

The original woman lost her arm in a shark attack yet still continued surfing-what an inspiration! The TW was competing as as a man in 2019. There are clear fetish photos of them in ladies undies online

I have bought from Ripcurl in the past. I've did a bit of surfing on a weekend. The strength of your upper body is absolutely paramount to picking up a wave. Males competing in women's surfing competition is undoubtedly unfair. This was a bad decision by their marketing department. I'm can't imagine what they're using to inform these decisions because presumably they are targeting women with this campaign.

Survived a shark attacks. Lost an arm. Got back into the water. Is a mum of 4.

Such a cool hero for girls. But no, they went Bud.
