The play, which will be performed on stage in New York next month and is being touted for the Fringe this summer, sees the author's 'surrogate children – Daniel, Rupert and Emma' stage an 'intervention'

Civil Disobedience, which has its roots in the Edinburgh Fringe and was launched by Barry and Josef Church-Woods in May 2016, described it as a "vital think-piece on Joanne, exploring just what could motivate a person with such privilege to take such a divisive stance on issues that affect her fans".

It has been written by Joshua Kaplan, a "queer screenwriter and playwright", and will be performed at The Actors Studio in New York City on Thursday, February 8.

A press release advertising the show claims: "Please note: TERF C**T is not a kill piece. It provides space for reflection and ultimately offers the audience time to explore some of the more contentious aspects of JK's life."

The synopsis for the show continues: "Joanne led a blessed life – for a woman. Billionaire. Literary phenomenon. Natural ginger. And most importantly, beloved. Completely beloved. Until she blew it all to hell.

"From book deals to divorces, family dysfunction to broken friendships, TERF C**T goes beyond the headlines to explore the woman that captivated a world with her books only to unravel a legacy with her tweets."

This Spectator did an interview with Julie Bindel and with the author Josh Kaplan about the play title and subject matter, the fact that he origionally called the play Terf c*s.

He is from an American Democratic state of New York which means that he will associate any thing not pro-trans with evil right wing Republicans and seems to have a not done his homework about the Left wing feminist position of J.K.Rowling and violence against women that trans rights activism has unleashed-
Julie explains it to him.....😆

40-60 IDENTIFIES as 300 dontcha know.

It's all about self ID these days......

We all know full well that if this was a show that was going to attract the TRA rent a gob crew with the cabaret of hate doing the djing whilst they berated women on their way in that that first show, and all those after, it would be sold out!

It's telling that despite all the press those who support the ideology and the constant hate dumped on JKR can't be arsed to get out of bed/put their hand in their pocket in support of their cause.

SidewaysOtter · 02/08/2024 13:01

The only trans character in the show remains largely mute, with tape across her mouth, suggesting the lack of trans voices in the debate about their rights and women’s rights.

Because we NEVER hear the likes of Windy’s opinion on anything, do we?

lcakethereforeIam · 02/08/2024 14:07

Just a heads up for anyone planning to watch this, because of a bin strike you're expected to take rubbish home.

I'm glad I'm not seeing it, I've only got a 3-bedroom.

When, inevitably, the tide turns (as I believe it is already doing) and people realise that JKR was on the right side of history after all, this nasty set of shites are going to be falling over themselves to reverse-ferret their way out of their anti-women's rights stance.

FWIW I bet I'm not the only person who was indifferent to JKR until she so bravely put her head above the parapet on this issue.

She was described an “outspoken advocate for women’s rights” in an article in the GUARDIAN just today, so I think you’re right about the tide turning.

And what, exactly, is supposed to have “blown”? She looks pretty damn successful to me!

Christ, that would be embarrassing in a sixth form theatre group.

The comments I have seen from people who attended it are basically 'Dreadful. Badly needs an edit. All characters unlikeable'.

AmaryllisNightAndDay · 02/08/2024 17:08

dares to stage a topic even politicians shy away from confronting

Josh would thrive on controversy but alas for Josh, "Edinburgh's most controversial show" has been well and truly trumped by the Olympic boxing debacle. Life has overshadowed art.

I'm sure Helen Joyce predicted that the two topics that would do most to shift the popular perception of trans ideology would be (1) transitioning children and (2) men in women's sports. So far so prescient.

TheMarzipanDildo · 02/08/2024 17:30

From the reviews, it sounds about as nuanced, politically astute and hard-hitting as a Legz Akimbo play.

I don’t think I can be fucked to go and see it.

lcakethereforeIam · 02/08/2024 17:34

Here's an archive, ink for anyone who wants to read the Telegraph review

Bloody hell I'm soft. I almost feel sorry for them. Still 3* isn't that bad.

TheMarzipanDildo · 02/08/2024 17:36

I did think 3* seemed quite high given the general tone of the review!

(Referring to the times one)

lcakethereforeIam · 02/08/2024 17:39

I do wonder if 2 stars are for the quality of the play and 1 is out of pity.

ArabellaScott · 02/08/2024 17:56

'her resilience-making stand-offs with her first husband'

Does the reviewer mean her experience of domestic violence? I don't think I've ever heard that described as a 'stand-off' before.

MattSmithsBowTie · 02/08/2024 18:01

Not the point of the thread but I’m surprised to see “natural ginger” listed as a blessing, it’s been the bane of my life, constant bullying as a child/teenager and some less than complimentary comments as an adult, personally I wouldn’t wish it on anyone.

duc748 · 02/08/2024 18:03

Isn't it considered to be a bane in boys, but a blessing in girls?

That’s not my experience, I even had strangers (adults) in the street yelling insults at me as a teenager.

How many different euphemisms can male reviewers find for men beating women, I wonder?

TheMarzipanDildo · 02/08/2024 20:27

Oooft

Not even the pity star on that one

duc748 · 02/08/2024 20:36

Daniel, Emma and Rupert didn't pitch up to support, then?

SidewaysOtter · 02/08/2024 23:12

It’s almost like being controversial isn’t enough, you’ve actually got to write a decent play as well.

Who knew?!

SinnerBoy · 03/08/2024 01:23

So, perhaps 50 in attendance, half being journalists and presumably, most of the others had bought the wrong ticket.
