Wow, that’s a hell of a change in a year. Any big names who’ve left?

Thanks for posting that link OP 👍

I've no idea who wpath are but it makes for a good read. The reasons given for their failing fortunes have cheered me up no end.

TathingScinsel · 18/01/2024 00:40

WPATH are now pleasing no one. The Genderbelievers think WPATH is too conservative and restrictive, the old schooler Genderdoctors think WPATH has become too lax and that it’s been to quick to bin the more gatekeepery policies.

The paediatric endocrinologists are making the adult surgeons cases more difficult/less lucrative.

The therapists and psychologists are referring pretty much all comers to surgeons, even though the reason for the two tier process was to weed out the future regretters and those with differential diagnosis such as OCD or eating disorders.

Planned Parenthood have undercut the old processes entirely and will flog hormones to anyone who can fill out a form and see at the bill.

The only people currently happy with
WPATH are the Eunuchs.

PurpleSparkledPixie · 18/01/2024 00:43

Wow. 60% drop in one year. Looks like it's mostly Americans who are saying no which is quite surprising too.

WPATH global membership stood at 4,119 in January 2023. As of 4th January 2024, it stood at 1,590. US membership was 3,104 in January 2023, compared with 1,234 in January 2024, i.e. currently comprising 78% of WPATH global membership. UK membership is minimal in comparison with 2% of total membership, although it appears to have experienced a similar proportionate decline, from 93 members in January 2023 to 34 in January 2024.

Thoughts and prayers...

Well maybe only thoughts.

As a resident of the US I will guess that in the USA this is for 3 major reasons:

  1. The voices of the majority who think so-called "Gender Medicine" for children should be banned (except for therapy) are finally breaking through. Together with laws across many states banning hormones and therapy for children with Trans identities. Detransitioners and their testimony at these hearings for new legislation have also been going viral.

  2. Professionals are now finally frightened of being sued and are disassociating with organizations linked to Gender Ideology.

  3. WPATH have been exposed as not being experts and having no medical basis for their recommendations. Many professionals had believed their PR and assumed they knew what they were talking about. Now they realize they are a facade.

American membership fell to 39% of its Jan 2023 total and overall membership to 38%. So Americans very slightly less likely to have left than other nationals.

Thingybob · 18/01/2024 05:29

Previous UK members who are no longer listed include Susie, Helen Webberley, Bernadette Wren and Dr Harrop. There's also no Polly Carmichael although I can't remember if she was previously a member or not.

TathingScinsel · 18/01/2024 05:39

Carmichael was deffo on the EPATH scientific committee for children and adolescents in 2014-15

I think everyone joins WPATH and then gets an automatic membership of their nearest offshoot?

Hang on, we've had Julie Bindel's "Help JKR to learn to write" crowdfunder and now a WPATH support funder. I'm not sure I can rinse my bank account sufficiently to reflect how strongly I feel about these causes twice in one week.

PurpleSparkledPixie · 18/01/2024 12:17

@NumberTheory fair enough maths is never my strong point, especially percentages.

However US 3,104 down to 1,234 is nearly a 2,000 drop which from a global 4,119 is quite a lot. But as I said, maths and me aren't friends.

Gettingmadderallthetime · 18/01/2024 12:52

Unfortunately as renewal is in January (and the 2023 figures may have been late/end of month (while 2024 was 4th Jan) this may not be quite such a severe drop. Still a big fall. But worth checking at end of month? Nice of WPATH to make it so easy.

The membership section of the site also says the default is to be listed in that directory. There may be more who have asked not to be on Directory this year. Which also raises interesting questions.

Yes, I fell down that 'what? What does that mean rabbit hole'. Again

vivariumvivariumsvivaria · 18/01/2024 13:02

I gather the pacific branch of WPATH is going strong. Plenty of profitable woo in NZ.

Yes, it’s a hell of a drop amoung everyone including Americans. Not trying to put a downer on that.

ArabellaScott · 18/01/2024 18:55

So you're saying that the organisation finally revealed Eunuchgender as valid and shared links to a site that contained thousands of fantasies of CSA, only to have lots of members leave?

Huh.

Delphinium20 · 18/01/2024 20:11

I am sorry if I'm not sure exactly what the membership type would be (pediatricians, parents, pharmacists, pharma lobbyists, etc.) but if the membership roster drop has higher amounts of pediatricians and/or pharmacists, I wonder if they have some insight into the upcoming findings of the the AAP (American Academy of Pediatrics), which is currently doing a review of the research. "...the influential group of doctors also took an extra step of commissioning a systematic review of medical research on the treatments, following similar efforts in Europe that found uncertain evidence for their effectiveness in adolescents."

https://www.nytimes.com/2023/08/03/health/aap-gender-affirming-care-evidence-review.html?unlocked_article_code=1.Ok0.lZLt.ccTq4UWZbokA&smid=url-share

Greengreenpastures · 18/01/2024 21:30

We all know the committees that made policy for the AAP were hijacked by ideologues like every other organization captured in the past decade. I imagine large numbers of the rest of the membership finally want to see medical evidence.

I think much of the medical profession was in the dark about how extreme medicalization had become in this area as the rest of the general public. Activists always liked to present their policies as a done deal as we know.
