On one hand, it stops the self-identified transwomen but NO man - and transwomen ARE biologically male - should be involved in the strip search of a woman. A GRC does not change their biological sex. And any transwoman who insists on a “right” to strip search women raises more red flags than a communist rally.

Mr Philip can be tweeted at @CPhilpOfficial, if anyone else wants to make their feelings known.

The point is that any male who wants permission to strip search women will be able to buy a certificate that gives him that right.

Here we go with another wail of 'it'll never happen', a la Karen White, Isla Bryson and the rest.

One woman being assaulted in order to protect men's feelings is too many.

And there is no guarantee that the one would remain one - just like the 'tiny number' of people that we were told would supposedly apply for a GRC. Once something is legal (legal fiction of a GRC, women being strip searched by biological men), then it's legal. The genie is out of the bottle.

What is so difficult to understand about that?

What all four of them across the UK? Yes apparently that is how many transwomen in the police force.

There are 12 officers identifying as the opposite sex in my local police force.

If there were 'only 4', why have 35 forces implemented the policy then? Some even after receiving legal advice that opposite sex strip searching is likely to be unlawful and anyone strip searched by someone of the opposite sex 'would have a legitimate complaint under Article 8 HRA and under the harassment provisions of the Equality Act 2010'. If there were only 4 trans officers in the whole country and it's 'never going to happen', why are so many forces so eager to implement the policy? Why bother?

You're also ignoring that female officers are forced to strip search a man if he self identifies as a woman, it's not just about women being searched. And those officers are forced into silence under threat of losing their job and being accused of committing a hate crime, all so their forces can use their silence as proof that they don't have a problem with it. So yet again one of your 'things that'll never happen' is already actually happening.

The list of who was consulted is such an eye opener, not a single woman group.

How many women will have to be assaulted and take it to court after the fact, before we get this stopped?

I just cannot believe that a government minister just said that men are legally allowed to sexually assault woman who are completely in their power, if they have a piece of paper which cost £5 and has some fictional stuff written on it. Is this the beginning of the end YET?

And it does not matter if there is 1 "transwoman" officer or hundreds. This is how these men in power think (or rather fail to think?). Bloody hell.

Bet there's some "bantz" around about how men would enjoy being searched by a "transman".

It would be better to make changes to or clarify the law while there are relatively few men with GRC.

The number is only going to get bigger and the problem escalate.

The existence of the magic paper should be neither here nor there. No man should be strip searching a woman.

You'd think those so keen on self-ID for GRCs* would maybe apply a few brain cells and not simultaneously be campaigning for them to be assault vouchers.

*Edit: okay, that shows I'm old. I'm still in 2019 mode. The Overton window has shifted such that they're now campaigning for them not to be abolished, IMO.

I wonder what happens currently with transwomen prisoners?
Do female officers have to strip search transwomen? We already
know they have a high incidence of committing sex crimes, then a women has to
search them. When for most at this point the truth about who they really are is
well and truly on display.
And what about fully transitioned transwomen with breasts and
bottom surgery? Who searches them? If it's a man, they are also at serious risk
of sexual assault.
What a mess!
