Hoping for a reasoned judgement soon.
The waiting must have been very tough for those at the sharp end of this!

There’s a new article just posted in the Times.

“A social worker who was suspended over her gender critical views has been awarded almost £58,000 in damages from Westminster city council and Social Work England.”

Just seen that on Twitter - result

chilling19 · 28/04/2024 21:51

Excellent news - first two paras from The Tines:

'A social worker who was suspended over her gender critical views has been awarded almost £58,000 in damages from Westminster city council and Social Work England.

In what lawyers described as an unprecedented move by a court to award exemplary damages against a regulator, an employment tribunal called for both the council and the watchdog to train their staff in the principles of freedom of speech.'

ScrollingLeaves · 28/04/2024 21:54

Well, well done. How brave too.

BreadInCaptivity · 28/04/2024 21:54

Excellent news and well done Rachel.

This is a resounding win. Usually ETs tend to pull their language, but in this case both Westminster Council and Social Work England have been told they were WRONG, WRONG, WRONG. 👏👏👏

BreadInCaptivity · 28/04/2024 21:56

Anyone got a share token?

Excellent news - and the tribunal have been very clear about the culpability of Social Work England and Westminster Council.

ArabellaScott · 28/04/2024 22:02

Fantastic. Well done, Rachel!

Waitwhat23 · 28/04/2024 22:02

DrSoupDragonsFriend · 28/04/2024 22:04

Wonderful news.

Snowypeaks · 28/04/2024 22:11

Fantastic news for Rachel Meade. The process is finally at an end.

Well done Naomi Cunningham and the legal team. I believe that judgement is absolutely everything they asked for, isn't it?

BreadInCaptivity · 28/04/2024 22:21

Thank you

the wheels on the bus...come off, again.

Thank god there are still some checks and balance mechanisms in our society that still work. I can't express what a relief that is. It's the only thing that gives hope that in a generations time some of the extreme limits of this ideology will have been laid bare for the damaging one sided battle for rights territory that it is.

Ofcourseshecan · 28/04/2024 22:30

Well done, Rachel and your team. And I’m
delighted that you have been awarded the compensation you deserve.

AlexaAdventuress · 28/04/2024 22:33

With a bit of luck this will serve as a shot across the bows of other professional and statutory bodies trying to police their members' views on the matter. I'm thinking about the physiotherapy body that's been mentioned a few times on here, for example.

SidewaysOtter · 28/04/2024 22:40

Well done Rachel, Naomi et al.

Let’s hope this makes other organisations think twice before piling into the idea that free speech only applies to some.

lordloveadog · 28/04/2024 22:42

Congratulations Rachel and team!

Social Work England make themselves sound proper weasels with that statement.

MarjorieDanvers · 28/04/2024 22:48

Brilliant news! I’m sorry Rachel was subject to this abuse 💐

DownWithBigBrother · 28/04/2024 22:50

This is huge - she hasn't just won for herself, this is going to help others as well;

''In what lawyers described as an unprecedented move by a court to award exemplary damages against a regulator, an employment tribunal called for both the council and the watchdog to train their staff in the principles of freedom of speech.''

''As well has making the damages award, the tribunal recommended that the council act within six months to ensure “that all of its managers and human resources staff receive training on freedom of expression and protected belief”.

''It also recommended that Social Work England should within six months “ensure that all its triage staff, investigation staff and case examiners shall receive training on freedom of expression and protected belief”.
