This is the tweet that started the thread that the link to Mumsnet appeared. So what Billy did here was pick up on a tweet about a mythical world where 'anti-trans women' stood with Joey Barton. He obviously didn't provide any evidence of this. Oh no. He also never appeared to address Barton directly. That would be Barton, the person actually using the type of language that would be considered transphobic.

From what I've been reading online transwoman is someone who has transed into a woman, ie biological man.
Transgender female is a female who's transed their gender (into male looking but biologically female).

So no wonder those who don't read these articles with a huge amount of thinking and take the words at face value are getting so confused about it all. Perhaps the next billboard should be the definitions of transwomen etc. Perhaps the Plain English Committee should do it (preferably before the GE).

IcakethereforeIam · 10/01/2024 11:21

Poor old cis-BB, understanding is not his strong point. Still, admitting he has a problem is his first step in trying to resolve it.

Was Rosie the person who started that thread then?

It's mad. The whole situation makes no sense.

Some footballer is an arse, a troll makes a post on MN lauding said footballer, women on MN tell the troll to FO and MN deletes it. Then Billy writes a nasal operetta about how mums are all nazis.

Its a story made out of trolls and misogynistic men, its fucking nothing to do with us - please can all you boring sexist men just fuck off out of Mumsnet and leave us alone?

Everything you need to know about Barton’s knowledge of and critical thinking about this is in his tweet. He thinks trans men are male people who wear women’s clothes

Like many people, he just doesn't indulge genderist language. He either doesn't know or care that a "trans man" is supposed to be a biological female. This has no bearing on what a misogynistic arse he is.

theDudesmummy · 10/01/2024 11:54

Looking at the replies under Barton's tweet, it is clear that the belief that "transman" means a man pretending to be a woman rather than the other way round is quite widespread (and it really makes more sense of course). No-one knows what's going on and everyone is confused now (hmm, cui bono from that d'you think?)

TheClogLady · 10/01/2024 11:54

I think I will start using ‘Genderman’ instead of ‘Transwoman’.

Thanks for the inspo, cis-Billy Bragg!

Good point, you’d have to have the direct link to the thread from when it was live. Its still in my “watching” list because I posted on it. does it work for anyone else?

Massively click baity thread title there! Something smells a bit fishy.

pickledandpuzzled · 10/01/2024 13:14

Transgender woman or trans identifying woman or could mean absolutely anything.

No Actual meaning there at all.

That Rosie seems a bit odd.

Hmm, yes, a quick online search reveals said person as a self professed con artist. (Shill) No surprise there then.

AirFriedRosie describes Rosieself as:

Kinda annoying feminist nerd, trans ally, making mad bank shilling for the trans lobby (she/her).

Well he's still popular with a lot of football fans, mostly male ones.

I wouldn't call making a statement such as there are only 2 genders "coming out as gender critical". I suspect Barton is very keen on gender stereotypes. I don't think any of the truly GC feminists on here would have come up with that title.

It’s a bit of a leap to assume that lots of those were feminists though!

RedToothBrush · 11/01/2024 08:04

I think feminists probably hold the controversial view that both of these men are as thick as mince with collosal egos.

You know the very definition of very mediocre men who know how to be gobby to help them achieve but actually haven't an actual clue about what they are talking about.

Rarely are these type of men challenged in the way they should be, so they think they are amazing. Until one day a woman eventually gets so fed up of the crap they are spouting and embarrasses them.

They don't like it so they double down. And everyone rolls their eyes at how much of an utter prick they are. But they carry on because they have this status and no one man will take them aside and go "stop talking bollocks you utter bellend"

DerekFaker · 11/01/2024 08:18

It's an almost uniquely male phenomenon, this.

Cattenberg · 11/01/2024 10:19

Earlier this week, I saw a comment thread on Twitter in which seven or eight men were slapping each other on the back for scolding a woman sticking up for a marginalised minority. I can’t remember which GC feminist they were responding to, but no doubt it will be another woman’s turn today.

Do you think the Billys and Adrians of this world ever ask themselves how this behaviour looks to a casual observer and whether there’s any chance they might be doing their cause more harm than good?

It depends on whether the casual observer is male or female...

LoobiJee · 11/01/2024 11:58

“I think feminists probably hold the controversial view that both of these men are as thick as mince with colossal egos.”

lol, nailed it RTB.

Ohyoudodoyou · 14/01/2024 14:34

Allying yourself with women fighting The good fight against injustice and unfairness due to men and their behaviour, that's Glinner and Dennis Kavanagh, Mr Menno. Oh and that lovely Mr Dreyfus with his beautiful dog. The good ones.
Bragg - Jesus I've seen him live, been involved in some of his events, since the '80's. Just what is it that's made him such a weasel and so deliberately obtuse? I can only think he rubs his "mangled claws' in glee at his excitement in taunting women online.
I was offered a ticket to see him very recently and had to enlighten the person - now on the side of women so that was a win.

Ohyoudodoyou · 14/01/2024 14:37

And there is no way any of my feminist mates would 'like' Barton's comments about women in football. Ironically his milkshake is bringing all the boys to the yard re:unfairness in sport for women competing against men!
