He's always supported single sex spaces apparently

Q: Are single-sex spaces safe under Labour?

"Yes, and I have been really clear and unwavering on this.
From my time as chief prosecutor, I worked with a whole bunch of people on violence against women and girls, and saw and know myself from my own observations just how important it is."

Strange, because he always seemed to me to be equivocating by talking about "safe spaces"

Can we trust him on this?

I was watching the McLibel documentary over Christmas. I was struck by similarities with the defendents; ordinary people wanting to spread the truth and refusing to apologise to a rapacious global juggernaut, and women currently refusing to pretend TWAW. Then who should turn up but a young, idealistic Keir Starmer (represented them at their later case to the ECHR over the UK government's legal aid stance and libel laws). Surely he should know what enforced lying is?

I have so much admiration for Helen Steel, from the McLibel case, the Spycops, and now for her work for feminism.

UK transgender rights row intensifies as book fair is cancelled

Accusations of ‘transphobia’ have led to bitter divisions within Labour and the Women’s Equality party, feminist and anarchist movements

I remember the McDonald's zine, they were sold at punk gigs and I wish I'd kept the one I had.

Winnading · 05/01/2024 12:55

This is why i think things are going to get worse under labour. We wont just have to fight the gender laws, we are going to have to fight for the right to question them

oh I am absolutely dreading this. The money/time/energy/mental health it's going to cost us all as case after case goes to court. Each case will inch us further unless we lose then it's back to square one. I'm really really hoping labour dont get in and we can carry on inching forward with the Tories. At least we have made some progress.
The thought of starting all over again but at a much increased disadvantage makes me cry for whats to come.

I do know labour will most likely get in, I wish it wasnt so.

Same

Look at where we’ve got, it’s taken so much

We lose that and the right to question Fark..

Helen Steel from the McLibel was in the public gallery at the Scottish Parliament that day when the GRC bill was passed. She was one of the women who made her feelings known to all the politicians.

See above . The future PM who was tough on crime ?

AdamRyan · 10/01/2024 21:04

Oh ffs
He was doing his job
We wouldn't have a legal system of "innocent until proven guilty" if barristers didn't go out and defend the indefensible
Ridiculous

Imagine advocating for sentences to death to be commuted to custodial sentences. For free.

I don’t care . They were murderers including child killers. The man who buried a 2.5 year baby alive ? I’m quite happy for a death sentence for that man

The government doesn't agree with you, it is longstanding Tory policy to seek the global abolition of the death penalty

It isn’t for the British government to give their opinions on global issues? What right does the Uk government have to tell other countries what to do ?

It is, and here is a Tory explaining it

Yes someone wrote their opinion on Twitter. What’s that got to do with the price of fish ?

I said what gives the UK government to think it has the right to tell other countries what to do? You just included a Twitter post from someone I’ve never heard of. I don’t care if he’s a Tory or any other party.

Start your thread if you want to talk about wider political issues. This one is about whether we can trust KS on trans issues and women's rights

Yes, bore off boys and have your fight about the death penalty on Reddit or even somewhere else on the site if you must.

Chersfrozenface · 17/01/2024 09:00

The BBC has a story on Labour's campaign document for the GE.

Well, if the target voter is Stevenage Woman, we now know why Labour are so desperate not to mention gender ideology.

Labour doesn’t want to talk about much

Looks like we’ll be facing the volatile world with a toothbrush

Boiledbeetle · 17/01/2024 09:23

I had a delightful conversation the other day with a woman from the Labour party.

She'd rung me to check I would be voting for the Labour candidate in the next general election.

Her tone changed the second I questioned if Keir was prepared to get off the fence and defend women such as Rosie in the party. She tried getting it back to my local candidate, so I asked if my local candidate stood by Rosie or not.

At that point she became rather abrupt and informed me she was going to end the call.

So much for listening to their party members/voters.

ZuttZeVootEeeVo · 17/01/2024 09:38

Labour want us to believe starmer wont automatically win the next election so they can claim the electorate actively voted for him and his policies.

I suspect they will continue with the fence sitting - they have to improve trans rights while supporting <insert the newest word for women>, and then asert because thats what they campaigned on , thats what the electorate want. Basically the GRC and EqA are fab, and nothing needs to change, just more kindness.

To be fair, i cant see what else they can do and not open a Pandoras box of dodgy policies in government depts.

AdamRyan · 17/01/2024 14:15

Oh goody, an upswing in politically motivated posters joining MN to tell "Stevenage Woman" why Labour are bad awaits. Yippee.

I dunno; it might enliven the tedium of being hectored by Labour scolds.
