Lemonade Dolls this time. Loved their comfy pretty underwear, I think they’re also a women owned business. Then I’m treated to this on their Insta today.

Because of course we cannot have a women’s underwear brand who don’t pander to male fetishes, can we.

Pic attached.

Wow. Im honestly lost for words

Posted too soon!

I don’t know if these brands do a cost benefit marketing exercise before they pull this shit but it’s hard to believe the female customers they’ll lose from this - and I know I won’t be the only one who does not buy from them again - will all be replaced by men.

Also, if I’m buying pants I’d like to see what they look like on someone without a penis who was born female. Nothing about this advert makes me want to buy these pants.

How very attractive Grin

fedupandstuck · 20/12/2023 17:55

At least it's a specific collection for males, as I would assume that the items have been made to fit a male body shape and bits.

But yes. Their "by women for women" tag line is a bit of a joke if they are catering to male people.

Socksforxmas · 20/12/2023 17:57

...sorry I might just be missing something/am terribly dense but what's the issue here? Never heard of the brand but it just seems to be an indie brand who make underwear that have brought out something for men? Like most clothing brands do...

GreatAuntMaude · 20/12/2023 17:57

I thought we were all for gender non conformity and clothes just being clothes? No?

fedupandstuck · 20/12/2023 17:59

Of course men can buy and wear knickers if they like. This company just needs to remove their "by women for women" by line and stop pushing that as a selling point. Because it's no longer true. And perhaps also be aware that targeting their current customer base (female) with products for men is probably unwelcome and unwise .

minicheddars87 · 20/12/2023 18:00

So we're just abandoning the whole "dress how you want, wear what you will just don't invade women's spaces" mantra then....?(paraphrasing)

I don't think they're using a man to market a product for women, I'm pretty sure that particular brief is meant for men. It's in a very similar style to a lot of male briefs I see.

Socksforxmas · 20/12/2023 18:04

Why would anyone be angry at a female owned brand expanding their market? I get it if they're doing so to push some gender woo nonsense but that doesn't seem to be the case here.

I'm genuinely curious, are there subsets of people out there who boycott any company that sells to men? That sounds... inconvenient...

Only until a man actually tries it. Then - not so much.

But this is a separate range for trans and non-binary people, so you don't need to see what it looks like on a body like yours. The women's range is still there and modelled by women.

Were they “by women for women”? Because their site seems to be all about inclusivity of all. So if they have changed direction, they are honest about who they target now.

ScholesPanda · 20/12/2023 18:20

Aren't they just men's y-fronts? With a sort of 1980s pattern on them?
Sorry, don't know the brand, but I wouldn't look at that and think they were aimed at me or any woman.
Or are they saying the model is a woman?

CherryJones1 · 20/12/2023 18:24

They're in the same woke-y mold as Snag tights and Molke bras.

All three to be avoided

MorningSunshineSparkles · 20/12/2023 18:27

Can’t get worked up over men wanting to wear underpants. I’d rather everyone did tbh but I have a DS who would much rather run about starkers than wear a stitch of clothing even in the middle of winter. (He is clothed usually, but he will randomly strip off without me expecting it. He is a toddler though).

Umph · 20/12/2023 18:30

I mean, they can’t win can they?

Put a man in knickers and it’s all ‘men are invading our spaces and fetishising women’.
Create a line specifically for male/trans bodies and that’s an issue too.

Trans people exist. Whether or not you want to accept this as a fact.

FrenchToastLover · 20/12/2023 18:32

Like half the replies here I'm waiting to hear from OP about what exactly the problem is with this 🤔

I wonder why we so often get categorised as enraged old fuddy duddys who can't handle the slightest bit of gnc?

Chersfrozenface · 20/12/2023 18:39

Actually I can't find "By women for women" on the website.

It's all "people" and "everyone".

Their stuff is not my bag, though.

AmaryllisNightAndDay · 20/12/2023 18:45

Confused old lady here. Maybe it's their Christmas range and you're supposed to buy them for your boyfriend?

But could someone explain - who are those pants supposed to fit? They don't look like women's pants at all. They just look like saggy men's briefs, the uncomfortable sort with the wide elastic waistband. What if anything is specifically "trans" about them, or indeed the model?

All I can see is pants that don't fit the model properly, whatever sex or gender they are.

HangingOver · 20/12/2023 18:46

They have a range of bras for men but as a 34aa I'm actually like oooh 👀

The description of the High Waisted Thong, for instance, says

"We've also designed our thong to accommodate all body types comfortably, with wider and longer gussets to ensure a perfect fit."

If they're just women's pants with "wider and longer gussets", then on a man with a penis and testicles they won't fit properly and they will sag.

LeonieSN93 · 20/12/2023 18:58

Well I'm sure TRAs won't use this as ammunition that we're all just backwards old bigots at all 🙄

A product designed for a male being modeled by a male has hardly shook my world, OP, I must admit.

HangingOver · 20/12/2023 19:08

It says here "our gender affirming collection... Whether you are a Pre - Op Transgender MTF, Post - Op FTM, Non-Binary identifying individual or gender non-conforming, this collection is for YOU."

I'm not mad at it, why shouldn't trans people have an underwear range that fits them.

I am annoyed that bras for trans people with no boobs are cheaper than bras for women with no boobs. Guess I'll go back to the teen range 🙄

LentilFaculties · 20/12/2023 19:17

It's a range specifically for the bepenised. It says so on the website. It means they recognise the physical differences in anatomy and design accordingly (sshhh nobody tell them that admitting this makes them Terfy old bigots).

Sure I disagree with the ideology behind the idea and I wish humans could feel free to like non stereotypical stuff without getting caught up in the authoritarian and quasi religious aspects of transgenderism. But what this company have done is not a million miles away from M&S having a "modest" collection.

It will be interesting to see if it makes the ££ they hope. I imagine there will be some who feel insufficiently validated by the website.
