Feminism: Sex and gender discussions
Froodwithatowel · 15/12/2023 13:36

How many men exactly are now 'women's champion' at various things? Because there seems a fuckton, with a new one turning up daily.

I thought it was supposed to be so vanishingly rare that we wouldn't notice (which would supposedly mitigate the mad sexism and disrespect for women involved)?

Froodwithatowel · 15/12/2023 13:37

Doesn't it just demonstrate though how a little 'be kind' to men = massive galumphing crowd taking the piss almost immediately.

BinturongsSmellOfPopcorn · 15/12/2023 13:38

About as 'vanishingly rare' as male Women of the Year, probably.

Worldgonecrazy · 15/12/2023 13:41

Obviously a woman, not a man. The long hair and earrings are a dead give away.

Sunnyjac · 15/12/2023 14:01

But but…
surely croquet can be unisex anyway?! Is there that much advantage to being male that he has to pretend to be a woman to be any good?!

ArthurbellaScott · 15/12/2023 14:09

Jesus fucking Christ. Every woman's sport. Every fucking one.

ArthurbellaScott · 15/12/2023 14:10

FWIW:

'While physical strength is a lesser factor in croquet than in other sports, Ms Lightbody argued that it does still play a role – and that, having gone through puberty as a male, Ms Gumbrell does have an advantage.
“A key shot in golf croquet is the jump shot,” she told The Telegraph.
“If you’re on the boundary, you can jump over a couple of balls and get through a hoop. I can only do mid-jumps, I can’t do one from the baseline. But Jamie can.
“That is a huge advantage over a woman.”
Another competitor from the world championship, who wished to remain anonymous, said Ms Gumbrell’s natural advantages weren’t limited to jump shots.
“To hit a ball that weighs 500 grams 20 metres, I have to use 80 per cent of my strength. The more strength you use, the more precision you lose. Endurance is also a factor,” she said.'

As with EVERY SINGLE OTHER SPORT women also face monthly periods affecting their performance, and/or pregnancy, and/or childbirth, breastfeeding, and maternity in general impact on their ability to take part, compete, and consolidate their career.

As with EVERY SINGLE OTHER SPORT women also face systemic and institutionalised sexism, prejudice, and 'old boy's networks' that are barriers to participation.

It didn't take everyone long to forget that we have separate sports, spaces and rights for a fucking wide variety of reasons, did it?

ArthurbellaScott · 15/12/2023 14:13

If it doesn't matter, then all sports should be mixed sex.

If it DOES matter, then it matters because of sex, not fucking hairstyle.

ArthurbellaScott · 15/12/2023 14:14

Apologies for overuse of the word 'sex'. And swears. When sex matters, it fucking matters.

Chersfrozenface · 15/12/2023 14:15

If sex doesn't matter, don't have women's competitions.

If you do have women's competitions, they should be for biological women only, provided they're not doping with testosterone.

It's not complicated at all

Edited

thats it in spades! if it doesnt matter, then make it mixed, if it does matter then its single sex

Sunnyjac · 15/12/2023 14:20

My question is answered and as usual the women lose out

WickedSerious · 15/12/2023 14:21

I don't know why so many organisations tie themselves in knots trying to make it 'fair for everyone'.

It's very simple,this is for women.you are a man,now piss off.

Someone has pointed out on Twitter/X that his name Jamie Gumbrell sounds a bit like the real name of Buffalo Bill in Silence of the Lambs - Jame Gumb.

If I hadn't seen so many dodgy trans-identifying characters on the internet over the past few years, I'd have said this was just a weird coincidence, but these days, who knows!

ArthurbellaScott · 15/12/2023 14:31

It seems there are three brothers with the same surname who all play croquet, so I guess that is his real surname.

DinoDays · 15/12/2023 14:33

"'I really felt sorry in the final for Rachel, who at the end was hiding behind her sunglasses because she was crying. She didn’t complain. She had been training so hard to be the women’s world champion, and then someone born male comes and takes it away'”

From twitter.

Makes me so fucking angry!

Fair enough, happy to stand corrected. Still a cheat though!

Froodwithatowel · 15/12/2023 15:06

Summarises it really.

A quietly sobbing woman behind a triumphant man busy 'living his best life' all over hers.

This

People who considered themselves progressive used to know this shit.

Now it's unfashionable to know this shit.

But the situation remains the same.

MrsOvertonsWindow · 15/12/2023 15:44

It's so enraging. And none of the (mainly) male numpties in the governing bodies ever wonder why they had women's competitions in the first place?

It sounds a lot like it.

WhamBamThankU · 15/12/2023 17:17

Jesus Christ. Took literally one second -if that- to work out which one was a bloke.

LondonLass91 · 15/12/2023 17:28

Why are the women next to the man smiling?!? Why aren't they angry???
