Specifically "Some like it hot" and one part of "Crocodile Dundee". Both on this week.

Rocky Horror Picture Show 😁

nauticant · 11/12/2023 14:51

You can forget about Four Lions. Or Life of Brian. In fact pointed and effective satire is probably an especially difficult area now.

Zampa · 11/12/2023 14:53

I watched Scrooged last week. Awful attitudes towards women and gun violence in the workplace. If it were to be remade, it would have to be so different. Enjoyed it tho.

Plasmodesmata · 11/12/2023 14:58

Austin Powers.

Sausagenbacon · 11/12/2023 15:34

I love Some Like it Hot which was, and always will be, a masterpiece. But remember that, even then, it was placed outside of the period it was created, by making it in black and white.
I give you Blazing Saddles. Another masterpiece.
Or, another favourite, Pillow Talk.

Treaclewell · 11/12/2023 17:52

I've been trying to tell you, that gal's a guy.
Nobody's perfect,

Slightly off-topic and nothing to do with feminism, but have you seen the American TV programme Forged In Fire? Like Bake Off, only the contestants make knives - it would never be made here. The tagline of one of the judges is "It will kill".

ScottBakula · 11/12/2023 18:29

@Sausagenbacon I love blazing saddles, there is no way they could make that now.

Also Brewsters Millions and, see no evil hear no evil.
Along with all ofthe carry on films

SirSamVimesCityWatch · 11/12/2023 18:31

Blazing Saddles is amazing! Must rewatch that.

Goonies would never get made now.

WomenShouldStillWinWomensSports · 11/12/2023 18:33

I was watching Aristocats on Disney + a few weeks ago and it started with a very Grim and Serious content warning that this had Bad Content that was Not Okay and They Apologized [sic].
I mean at least they didn't cut the offensive clip like they do in every CD/digital MP3 version of Ev'rybody Wants to Be A Cat.

Crikeyisthatthetime · 11/12/2023 18:36

Watched Rocky Horror last night and felt all nostalgic for when men could dress in corsets and call themselves transvestites.
(It's just a jump to the left...)

SkiingIsHeaven · 11/12/2023 18:37

Big should never been made in the first place.

The little boy in a man's body who still thinks like a little boy has sex with an older woman.

It's just disgusting. Even then it should have been. Yuk.

WomenShouldStillWinWomensSports · 11/12/2023 18:39

Breakfast At Tiffany's. I love that film but think it's absolutely fucked up that Holly must have been married in her teens to that Southerner and the guy isn't arrested when he tries to re-ensnare her again. Also apparently George Pepard was a total sex pest on his sets.

I Love Lucy - not a film but I couldn't imagine it being made nowadays. And if it hadn't been, there would have been no Star Trek or all their franchises and films, because the original series was a Desilu production (Desi and Lucille, who made their money as the stars and producers of I Love Lucy).

Enjoyed Four Lions. Life of Brian is one of my favourite films.

So does Peter Pan.

theilltemperedclavecinist · 11/12/2023 19:25

I watched 'Naked Gun' on the TV recently and they cut the "nice beaver" *. Such a harmless joke and I'm sure young people encounter far worse now.
