"Period experiencing humans"

Hope this is the right place. Like many others I've learned a lot from these boards and receiving an email with this language today from ModiBodi (in celebration of the scrapping of VAT on period products) made me so angry. I'm not brave enough to put myself as GC on my socials but did fire off my thoughts in a contact form to the brand directly. Just pointing out that removing "women" from language is degrading and to be truly inclusive, we as women should be included. language IS important. Might not help but wanted my voice to be heard

OP posts:

Are we supposed to talk about erection-experiencing people and wet-dream experiencing people too, rather than men/boys, in the same vein??

Maybe we should stop advertising hair products too because there are some people in the world who, for whatever reason, have lost all their hair.

We need to understand that society cannot function when the ever increasing search and adoration of "exceptional circumstances" is the forefront of every decision made.

Rightsraptor · 28/11/2023 12:42

I haven't seen the original text but is 'period experiencing humans' how they actually wrote it?

It should be hyphenated thus 'period-experiencing humans' as @KStockHERO has it. Otherwise it's unclear whether it's the humans who experience periods or the periods who experience humans.

But then obfuscation is a goal of this movement so I shouldn't be surprised to see it. And language is the major tool they use in achieving that obfuscation.

If you are a female transitioning into a male. You will still be menstruating, so it's a sensitive way of including everyone , in a similar way that if they said "women", that's excluding the ages 9+ girls who are not "women" but are still menstruating

I really can't get enraged by an inclusive term

So the word ‘woman’ should be eliminated just so a tiny minority of individuals with an identity crisis don’t feel excluded? That’s insane.

These special alphabet people don't even understand how third person pronouns work - what chance do they have with hyphens? Semi-colons will blow their tiny little minds.

Exactly. Completely insane

UtterlyUnimaginativeUsername · 28/11/2023 12:53

What about people who don't identify as human? They're still excluding them.

marmaladeandpeanutbutter · 28/11/2023 12:58

Also, women can't become males. We all know that really. Not that I mind people behaving as the sex they prefer to identify with, as long as it doesn't involve degrading women.

Hula2Hula · 28/11/2023 12:58

It's vile, OP. It's not inclusive to erase women, it's an act of pure misogyny. Only biological women menstruate.

I boycott companies who doesn't use the word woman for period products. There is only one company I can use!!! But they will get my money and support. We need to keep writing to the others so they can understand how truly appaling this is.

Helleofabore · 28/11/2023 13:01

No Jelly!

Perhaps this choice of language is carefully intended to exclude clownfish.

At LEAST this time they used human! In the past these ridiculous phrases have been open to any female mammal that has a menstrual cycle. Or remember too, we were called ‘bleeders’ by one organisation that was supposedly female focused.

GoodlifeGlow · 28/11/2023 13:08

Modibodi are the absolute worst for this kind of crap. I unsubscribed and unfollowed long ago.

I would not recommend Mododi. Their period pants are rubbish and in my experience start falling apart after 18 months. Crap product, crap marketing, general confusion about their core market, they won’t receive anymore of my money.

Devonshiregal · 28/11/2023 13:13

fedupandstuck · 28/11/2023 11:45

Never mind that no human or mammal on earth has or could transition from female to male. Of course, a female person could transition from feminine presenting to masculine presenting, as defined by the society/culture in which they live. Doesn't change their sex though. Hence "women and girls" being sufficient to describe the target audience.

As others have said, trying to be inclusive doesn't mean reducing the vast majority of your target audience to dehumanising terminology.

This.

How come language and identity matters so much when it comes to everyone EXCEPT women.

why do we have to be ashamed of our pronouns and descriptors? Why are our terms hidden and removed? Why are we not allowed to demand something of our own!

For fucks sake honestly, I have put up with every indignity that comes to mind with womanhood (feeemaleness?) why the actual hell do I have to be the one to give up my language?! I don’t even want to have to use the damn sanitary pads but I have to and why…because I’m a woman. It’s a feminine hygiene product BECAUSE it’s a FEMININE hygiene product.

This is the most fucking ridiculous argument ever.

Toseland · 28/11/2023 13:15

Yes at least they used the word 'human' - a word Keir Starmer forgot when he called us 'adult females'.
Honestly, calling women all these stupid names under the pretence of 'inclusion' is so insulting - but who cares if I'm offended, right - I'm not as special or as worthy of respect as all these new types of 'women'.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 28/11/2023 11:21

FFS. It's like a competition to come up with the most batshit term to avoid saying women and girls.

Absolutely

i think this one wins so far

However you 'transition', if you menstruate you are a woman. End of debate.

Allthegoodnamesarechosen · 28/11/2023 13:24

😹😹😹 idiots.

aswarmofmidges · 28/11/2023 13:25

Women and transmen does nicely

It includes transmen whilst keeping them different to women and doesn't exclude most women through dehumanising biologically reductive language

But, but, but.... what about the non-binaries?

Froodwithatowel · 28/11/2023 13:29

Yeah. I'm dumping that back on the delusionality-experiencing humans, who can take their differently batshit language experience and do the much fucking off with it.

It's almost like the aim is to make everyone so cross they finally go right, stop it. All of it. It's over.

AgnesX · 28/11/2023 13:34

I took the hump with ModiBodi's marketing a long time ago, unsubscribed and flatly refuse to have anything to do with that guff.

EasternStandard · 28/11/2023 13:43

Hopefully we’ll get a chance to get rid of it

Women will be so fed up they’ll just take it all down

Ereshkigalangcleg · 28/11/2023 13:45

They will keep going until someone does. There is no amount of craven grovelling that will satisfy narcissists.

LlynTegid · 28/11/2023 13:47

Women, girls and transmen would be OK, not what was used.
