Lady Ballers trailer.

Upcoming US comedy about men invading women's sport. Features Riley Gaines.

Yep, that's the way to do it: make the whole damn thing a laughing-stock.

Have now seen the actual trailer of the film that is the topic of this thread and it looks very funny.
I haven’t seen Bridesmaids, and now never will, because this one looks much much much funnier!
Slick production and good gags - and the Mr Mulvaney spoof was adorable 😄

TED Cruz never comes off well, but we must all remember a certain mr Trump’s appearance in the smash hit Home Alone 2

TED Cruz never comes off well

Never? Ever ever ever?! Of course he often doesn’t come across well but never? Watch this clip. I think he comes across very well, much better than the person after Riley Gaines he interviews. But who would want to be on HIS side in this particular debate instead of hers eh?

Fine, I amend that to that Ted Cruz sometimes does and sometimes does not come off well 😎

Dash it all @NotBadConsidering 😄
now mr Cruz will probably turn out to be the best bit of the whole film!

To me people who won’t watch a movie/read a book/attend an event because someone they don’t agree with is involved are saying “I don’t want ALL the information. I’m happy to form my views without knowing as much as I can and as such move through life with underdeveloped critical thinking skills and I don’t care who knows it.” I would be embarrassed to admit to being such a person. At the same level as a child refusing to eat something because another kid told them it was nasty.

NotBadConsidering · 01/12/2023 20:49

This is why gender ideology is such a gift to conservatives. The woman in the clip was also determined to not be aligned with Ted Cruz, but made him look like the world’s most reasonable person by simply asking “are there differences between men and women?” Regardless of all his other views, he can demonstrate that he’s perfectly normal on this. It’s money for old rope.

It's also why this film is going to brilliant. Not because the film itself is going to be brilliant, but it’s going to be hilarious watching people tie themselves in knots to not “align themselves” with the filmmakers, while not making themselves look a fool who supports men in women’s sport, which of course is impossible and exactly why they made the film.

Edited

It's a comedy film, not a scientific paper. What crucial "information" do you think it contains?

Ereshkigalangcleg · 01/12/2023 22:32

I think it's a general point @Flickersy Confused

Well amazingly, the scientific fact/crucial “information” that there are differences between men and women can’t be answered in a US government committee hearing, so it needs to be presented to the public in a comedy film.

I’ve just checked back and I can’t see anywhere that I suggested there was any crucial information in the film? I’m speaking generally about people who turn their faces from The Other Side so they can continue to cling to their chosen belief systems, without challenge, as you very well know 😊

OkayScooby · 01/12/2023 23:51

Maybe it identifies as a scientific paper.

I think it does.

The trailer is brilliant, because it's so TRUE.

So... anybody seen the full movie yet (released yesterday on subscription channel Daily Wire +)?

I'm desperate to know what the whole thing is like!

@NotBadConsidering wow that's a stretch.
No, I don't support men in women's sport actually. But I think the moment you involve Ted Cruz in anything, you alienate a lot of people.

And it does look a bit hammy, sorry 😬. Still, I hope you enjoy it.

It seems to be streaming in full right now, no membership required. The feature starts after a minute-and-a-half promo for an upcoming animated series.

Involving Ted Cruz also engages a lot of people. If you don’t support men in women’s sport, then you actually ARE on Ted Cruz’s side about this. Is that so hard to acknowledge? Why do you feel alienated from something because it contains someone who you agree with about its subject matter?

You realise if you say the words “I agree with Ted Cruz about this” out loud no one cares and it doesn’t change who you fundamentally are as a person or your political ‘side”?

Eek, yes! I clicked your link and followed a link to the movie and there it was. I've just watched the whole thing, with no subscription.

Verdict: brilliant. An old-fashioned cheesy and sentimental American comedy, with lots of laugh-out-loud moments. It skewers the whole men in women's sport thing. Lots of knowing references to recent stories in the gender saga. Favourite moment: probably the young daughter explaining gender ideology to the men.

The closing few seconds are an unnecessary in-joke about a particular person in the US gender critical scene, but apart from that it's great.

I don't know how long it will be free to watch, but it worked on this link for me.

SharSharBinks · 03/12/2023 00:40

Wow. Must've taken some balls (pardon the pun!) to make this in a world where women get investigated for saying humans can't change sex. Hopefully cinemas won't wimp out from screening it.

Waitingfordoggo · 03/12/2023 10:01

The film looks shit IMO but I don’t tend to enjoy mainstream American comedy films, regardless of the subject matter. I prefer my comedy a bit more subtle and clever. Am totally against men in women’s sport though (and changing rooms, prisons, hospital wards etc).

I’m surprised there hasn’t been a bigger backlash against the film- maybe that’s still to come.
