Yet another sport sees sense (thought it doesn't cover national games)

Trans players born as men BANNED from international women's cricket https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/cricket/article-12774913/Cricket-chiefs-BAN-transgender-players-born-men-international-womens-cricket-protect-safety-female-players.html?ito=native_share_article-nativemenubutton

Trans players born as men BANNED from international women's cricket

In a statement released on Tuesday morning, the governing body concluded that they had made the decision following a nine-month consultation process to protect the safety of female players.

About time.
Just wondering when will/what will it take for the governing bodies of ALL sports to ban ALL males from ALL levels of female sport?

HermioneWeasley · 21/11/2023 14:07

Good news

NitroNine · 21/11/2023 14:13

Hopefully England Cricket (& other national bodies) will now see sense. Males with low testosterone, however they may identify, are not female, & do not belong in women’s sport at any level.

Helleofabore · 21/11/2023 14:25

Great news. I hope though that this will now roll down to all levels of cricket. I suspect there will a be few countries that will not do this however.

Exactly, I was just thinking I can't believe it is newsworthy that males are being banned from female sports.

The only remarkable thing is that they were ever allowed to do so in the first place.

Exactly. Their fucking gender identity is fucking irrelevant, they are male, were born male and will always be male.

I see that the one of the reasons was to protect the integrity of women's sport, yeah duh!

I am wondering if the recent spate of women refusing to play against TW is sharpening minds. Women should not have to do this but it seems this is the only way that is making sports bodies sit up and take notice. The comments around these incidents and the TW footballer who broke the knee of a woman are all 100% against TW in women's sports, the public know it is wrong, they do not support it.

lifeturnsonadime · 21/11/2023 15:08

Halle-fucking- lujah!

This is my daughter's sport. She is on the county pathway. There is no way it would be fair to compete against males in girls county matches or league ones for that matter.

Some people, mistakenly think, because the best girls can play on boy's and men's teams it would be OK. My daughter has faced a certain amount of sexism playing in men's sides. it takes a LOT of commitment to be one of the best girls. The thought of having a male rock along and take a girls place on a woman's or girls team is horrifying.

England Cricket and the counties now need to follow suit. Obviously Kent cricket has form for having a male woman cricketer, although I'm not sure Maxine is still playing. Time to rock back for fairness and safety.

AIstolemylunch · 21/11/2023 15:11

Great news!

SabrinaThwaite · 21/11/2023 15:12

Great first step - but this policy needs to be in place at grass roots level.

Absolutely does.

Women have enough disadvantages in cricket as it is. Clubs are still not set up properly for female players. There are home and away changing areas but not separate men's and women's. As my daughter is still a child I am required to go with her to men's leagues matches when she plays in them precisely because of this situation. Often there is no clear seperate toilet for example.

So in grass roots cricket if there is a male on the team all of the women are compromised in terms of dignity in changing areas.

It is also completely unsafe depending on the males level of skill and strength, arguments that some women and girls are good enough to play in men's teams are not enough to negate this. Women cannot play in the strongest men's sides due to their physical advantage.

At last an organisation recognising that reducing testosterone isn’t the solution because lower testosterone is not the real problem.

Boiledbeetle · 21/11/2023 16:09

You would think at some point all the heads of all these different sports would have a meeting and just bloody agree they fucked up and that men in women's sports is insane and sooner rather than later a man is going to kill a women during a sports match.

But nooooo! Women are having to suffer until each individual sport has its come to Jesus moment and wakes the fuck up!

I wonder which sport will be next?

Froodwithatowel · 21/11/2023 16:23

Good. More and more are tipping to this.

Male people with gender identities are male people with gender identities. And that's fine. And that's all.

ArthurbellaScott · 21/11/2023 16:28

Good.

Keep em coming.

No men in women's sports, I don't care if they really really want to play with women.

Stomacharmeleon · 21/11/2023 16:45

@lifeturnsonadime not only that but 'Kent women's club player of the year'...

This ^^

There is now quite a large body count of women athletes injured in this experiment, some of them are career ending and life changing injuries in the name of being nice to men.

These injuries have resulted in slow, reluctant change.

I seriously do wonder if a woman is going to have to die before this lot get their sexist arses into gear.

They are pretty much behind the curve here, many other sports (rugby, swimming, cycling, athletics) already had bans in place, in some cases (such as cycling and athletics) applying at all levels of competitive sport, not just elite. Lets see how long hockey, football, and gymnastics hold out (UK gymnastics already has a ban but it doesn't apply at international level).

No I meant that they had actually said that it isn’t about lowered testosterone , which is often the only bleat that is heard, it’s about the permanent advantages that male puberty endows which remain whatever the level of very slightly lowered testosterone a cheating athlete claims to have achieved.

GailBlancheViola · 21/11/2023 17:42

You would think so but they are too bloody minded to admit they fucked up and were thick/incompetent/reckless with women's safety.

But nooooo! Women are having to suffer until each individual sport has its come to Jesus moment and wakes the fuck up!

Yep.

Chersfrozenface · 21/11/2023 17:53

I keep banging on about this but once males are banned from women's sports at international level, national organisations will have to follow suit, or they won't have the pool of female players to field a competitive side.

What with the female players who get unnecessarily injured, those who give up thr sport, those who never take it up in the first place, the talent pool will shrink, to the detriment of the national squad.

SabrinaThwaite · 21/11/2023 17:53

I think the World Swimming regulations apply at grass roots level too?

Surely, it’s getting close to critical mass now and the fence sitting organisations (football 👀) will realise that they’re out of step with science and public opinion.

Mytholmroyd · 21/11/2023 17:57

Good. About time. Let's hope the ECB quickly follows suit.

RedToothBrush · 21/11/2023 18:06

The whole culture of forcing the issue is bound up with legal threats and that's particularly driven by the US culture of it.

Americans aren't known for playing cricket.

It's probably easier to do this in sports where US influence is smaller (or non existent).

caringcarer · 21/11/2023 18:08

Great news. The males should play men's cricket.

Libertass · 21/11/2023 18:11

This is obviously the correct decision, the only surprising thing is that it has taken so long.

While the standard of women’s cricket has improved, and the best players are outstanding, (England’s Sarah Taylor was widely considered to be the world’s best wicket keeper), many bowlers still look uncomfortable with the size & weight of the ball (which is slightly smaller than men use) and the length of the pitch (which isn’t). That is to be expected, given that the physics of the game evolved to suit male physiques & strength.

Having huge, biologically male fast bowlers hurling the ball down at 90+ mph from a height of 2.2m would simply make a mockery of the women’s game, in addition to the obvious safety concerns.
