Yet another sport sees sense (thought it doesn't cover national games)

Trans players born as men BANNED from international women's cricket https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/cricket/article-12774913/Cricket-chiefs-BAN-transgender-players-born-men-international-womens-cricket-protect-safety-female-players.html?ito=native_share_article-nativemenubutton

Trans players born as men BANNED from international women's cricket

In a statement released on Tuesday morning, the governing body concluded that they had made the decision following a nine-month consultation process to protect the safety of female players.

Doesn’t go far enough. Protect women and girls at grassroots level too please, ICC.

The ICC has no authority beyond international cricket. The national cricket authorities are sovereign within their own territories.

Good.

Absolutely but I'll be surprised if the ECB doesn't now follow suit.

The unfairness is as plain as the nose on your face. I think Maxine Blythin muddied the waters a bit for the ECB having a DSD and being trans.

So the onus is now on the ECB they can't, on the one hand, be trying to promote equality and women's cricket whilst denying women are a sex class.

This will trickle down. Bet the Canadian Women's Cricket team is appalled that they can no longer cheat.

As always the photo makes the argument & this decision clear!

Completely agree both in cricket and all women's sports. You need a clean women's game at national elite level to ensure that your national women's team is competitive. This means that the feeders to your national elite competition need to be clean. The ECB will have to act quite quickly (3 years would be quick for the ECB).

Internetional regulations only apply at grassroots if the national body has decided to apply them. A good example is the US where USA Cycling, US Rugby and US Swimming have not implemented the rules requiring natal males to compete in open categories imposed by the UCI, World Rugby and FINA. In sport, national governing bodies are sovereign over domestic competition: some simply implement the regulations of the world governing word-for-word, others take a pick’n’mix approach.

in cycling, it actually happened the other way round with British Cycling imposing regulations for domestic competition first, which were then adopted by the UCI.

Has anyone ever seen the confirmation that Blythin had a DSD after all, last I saw they had no diagnosis. They also denied going through male puberty. I find that difficult to believe to be honest.

Surely if you’d not gone through any puberty at all, you would have been thoroughly diagnosed in your teens. And if you have been through partial male puberty, then you have some advantages.

Rouleur · 21/11/2023 22:01

No I haven't seen the evidence. That's an interesting take on this as I would have assumed Blythin was telling the truth.

No matter though it clearly had the ECB in knots. Blythin wasn't that great at cricket either really though, Blythin was Kent woman of the year but with all that male advantage he never made the England woman team (thank goodness0.

I guess I find such claims to be rather dubious when the person is an adult claiming they have no diagnosis and don’t name the DSD (from what I have read). They are from the UK, aren’t they? So if they were a teenager never going through puberty, how and why was this never picked up by doctors?

And then after all the publicity (conveniently around the time of controversy), no confirmation of any diagnosis. In fact, nothing more from Blythin.

Maybe I am too cynical.

Hoardasurass · 21/11/2023 23:33

@Helleofabore I don't think you are being to cynical, I've seen more than enough males who claim to be both women and have a dsd when neither are true. Remember the wood shop teacher which huge fake boobs

Yes hoardasaurus, quite right

NitroNine · 22/11/2023 07:17

In 2019 Blythin gave a remarkable interview to Sky Sports about their “naturally low testosterone” - hinting that it might be a DSD but saying they’d never actually been tested or anything, because, er, reasons - but they might now, maybe… 🤨
(More of the same from Sky Sports on the same date.)

I can’t find anything of a later date &/or that confirms Blythin’s claims. Although boys enter puberty later than girls, delayed puberty in males is when puberty has not begun by age 14 & it seems unlikely, to say the least, that 14yo Maxine would decline testing for DSDs. The stories do not reconcile. (Being on so-called puberty blockers, of course, would drastically reduce your testosterone level & it’s known male children who take them end up tall…)

SabrinaThwaite · 22/11/2023 10:32

Interestingly, the GRO doesn’t hold any birth records for a Maxine Blythin.

There is a birth record for a Maxwell Edward Blythin though.

In true Private Eye style, could they be related?

Yes. The discrepancy is what I noticed. There is a chance that there is any diagnosed DSD BUT not that Blythin did not go through any male pubertal changes, from what I have read. And please anyone can correct that if I am wrong.

It doesn’t seem convincing at all. Instead it seems well timed to counter any pushback against his being in the Kent team.

And designed to be left hanging to ward off any further queries. I also then wonder if he has been included in the consultation as a person with a DSD???

Helleofabore · 22/11/2023 12:09

Oh my! I just saw this amazing result when I was looking more into McGahey.

So.... this player achieved:

73 RUNS IN 46 BALLS
9 FOURS & 3 SIXES

Now, I grew up in a cricketing family and this is a remarkable game that this player had... oh wait... lighter bats, balls, slower bowling and shorter boundaries for a person who played as a male for decades in a country where cricket is heavily invested in for children (at the time this person was growing up in Australia, mostly male children!) .... fuck that!

Ah well, if McGahey just trains harder and tries harder perhaps they’ll make the Canadian men’s team.

That’s the usual advice right?

Yep that's what they tell women, so I'm sure it'll be validating for Danielle

It certainly is, time to take their own advice and try harder to be included in the correct team for their sex, thems the breaks.

SabrinaThwaite · 23/11/2023 09:39

Looking at the current ECB regulations, they don’t make a lot of sense anyway.

At recreational level, TW can compete in female only, mixed gender and open matches, but TM and NB people can’t compete in female only?

Doesn’t seem to require TW to lower T to compete in female only competitions, but there’s no discussion of whether a TM is on T or not or whether a NB person is female, just a ban on TM and all NBs taking part in female only matches despite all TM and some NB people being female?

Seems a bit sexist, the male special people get to play with the women, but the female special people don’t get a choice.

It’s almost as if male humans are privileging other male humans as usual 😱 I am shocked! Shocked, I tell you!

Exactly, I was just thinking I can't believe it is newsworthy that males are being banned from female sports.

The only remarkable thing is that they were ever allowed to do so in the first place.

Exactly. But anyway, the rollback is happening bit by bit.
