I was pleasantly surprised!

Mydogisagoodboy · 15/11/2023 14:08

Bit of a car crash for them.

Signalbox · 15/11/2023 14:24

Just listened to this. Hopefully it will have tipped a whole load more women into TERFdom.

FetchezLaVache · 15/11/2023 14:27

Anyone else notice how they were quite comfortable using the word 'men'? Women have to be 'assigned female at birth', but 'men' is a perfectly acceptable term for them to use.

Beowulfa · 15/11/2023 14:33

I've just realised that "Endometriosis South Coast" is really catering for transmen and female they/thems living in Brighton who want to talk about a gynae condition whilst pretending it's not female-specific. Fair enough*, if this was made clearer. A transman CEO would have made more sense of course.

*fair up to the point where I think it may be damaging to mental health to be denying reality when dealing with a serious medical condition.

ellieboo9 · 15/11/2023 14:45

Interesting that the founder said the CEO "didn't have to be that sex" i.e. female

TastesLikeStrawberriesOnASummerEvening · 15/11/2023 14:47

But there's 29 men with it.
Ah yes, those poor menz, can't imagine why Steph would be worried about them...

ellieboo9 · 15/11/2023 14:48

And has EB finally peaked??

DirtyDuchess · 15/11/2023 14:49

Emma did pretty well there I thought. The charity founder sounded like a woke idiot and the bloke was totally out of his depth.

UtopiaPlanitia · 15/11/2023 15:02

My takeaway from the interview:

Why is Steph so 'passionate around endometriosis' (and women’s health)? These issues don’t affect Steph who has male biology.

I’m surprised that Steph feels the profile of the charity has been raised in a positive light by this appointment to CEO 🤦‍♀️

Why do Endometriosis South not want to use the word 'women' when discussing the effect of this disease on women?

CriticalCondition · 15/11/2023 15:10

This is Steph. Who won't be stopped 'strutting their stuff' in women's changing rooms, toilets and sports. And hopes terfs go to hell.

So empathetic with women.

Thanks for flagging this. It was an interesting interview.

BoreOfWhabylon · 15/11/2023 15:25

Emma did a great job.

As did Steph and Jodie, but not in the way they intended.

29 men with endo? Is that 29 males or 29 females with special exteriors? Or some ratio of the two?

He's trying to prove a point but I'm not sure which...

Lottapianos · 15/11/2023 15:41

'Emma did pretty well there I thought. The charity founder sounded like a woke idiot and the bloke was totally out of his depth.'

I agree. Very robust interview, Emma kept returning to the word 'woman' and why they seemed to have such a problem with it. Nice tone of 'WTF?' in her voice towards the end! What a pair of numpties

MorvernBlack · 15/11/2023 15:50

Sorry, I can't remove the preview.

nauticant · 15/11/2023 15:50

It's men with an endometriosis-type condition PatatiPatatras. Incredibly rare and only occurring in certain circumstances caused by particular medical conditions:

https://europepmc.org/article/med/4014886

He was trying to make the point that Emma Barnett was hoping he'd make. That given the choice he would make this about men, which is par for the course for a trans activist, thus confirming the criticism the charity have received, ie that it was unwise of them to appoint a trans activist as CEO.

Hurroo · 15/11/2023 16:06

Emma: 'Do you think someone who isn't trans can run a trans charity?'
Steph: 'Well, yes, look at Nancy Kelley at Stonewall!'
Emma: 'Stonewall isn't just a trans charity.'
Steph: 'Um...'

The whole interview is cray-cray. Emma points out that Steph has made Steph's first interview on Woman's Hour all about the handful of men who have endo and the folx who don't identify as women. Then Jodie, the endo specialist, says, in a voice of almost hysterical exasperation, 'We need to move away from the gynaecological side of things...'

Please please someone transcribe it.

I guess I'm surprised he'd used the word men for the 29 males when any number of them could be trans.
They are both so careful not to say women have endometriosis but he said without faltering that 29 men have it. So easily...

It just made me wonder if the 29 was really about men.

Emma does have a point: why does endometriosis need to highlight everyone especially men to be taken seriously?

IWilloBeACervix · 15/11/2023 16:15

Just listened on catch-up.

I was really pleased that Emma made the point that Steph’s appointment was about transactivism, not about women’s health.

If you replace Steph’s use of the word Feminist with Transactivist, then it becomes clearer. I’m going to pay attention more when these men use the word feminist, as really they are just trying to camouflage transactivism.

Steph was so passionate about endometriosis that they started off by rabbiting on for a long time about the prison service before belatedly remembering they were not on air to just open their mouth and expect to be listened to but to actually discuss the topic on hand.

I wish Emma had asked if Steph knew how many women had it since he clearly knew how many men had it.

The very definition of saying the quiet stuff out loud. This is gold, I'm going to listen on catch up.
