Then Jodie, the endo specialist, says, in a voice of almost hysterical exasperation, 'We need to move away from the gynaecological side of things...'

Sorry, but an endo specialist said this?

May as well have added the words ". . . and centre the penis".

It’s all a bit Frank Mackey in Magnolia, isn’t it?

Toseland · 15/11/2023 20:13

It was interesting that the CEO pushed two or three hard questions onto Jodie to answer (framed in such a kind and deferential manner) rather than CEOing up and answering them CEOs-self. What a cunning, mean, coward.
I think Jodie is being duped.
Isn't it unusual to have 2 interviewees on Woman's hour? I bet the CEO was insistent on Jodie coming along to support.

rabbitwoman · 15/11/2023 20:21

I think I agree that you don't have to be a person with that lived experience to be a CEO of a charity. Steph's example was the CEO of shelter doesn't have to live in a tent.

But then, the CEO of shelter isn't trying to redefine being homeless so that it encompasses people who do, in fact, own a three bedroom semi..... and then trying to centre those people instead of those who might live in a tent.....

There's also the fact that the CEO of Shelter came to that role with lots of credible experience within the charitable sector, and had previously been CEO of Women's Aid.

Whereas Steph's credentials are - what, exactly?

Pokinganose · 15/11/2023 20:43

Heard this as I was driving today. I couldn't believe what I was hearing! What us the world coming to when we can't even have a biological woman in charge of a womens charity that deals with biological womens problems. Makes my blood boil. Men still getting involved with womens issues even if they are trans.

donquixotedelamancha · 15/11/2023 20:48

I think Jodie Hughes (the chairwoman who founded the charity) came across worse than Steph. She seemed incensed that EM described Endometriosis in factual, woman-centric terms.

Another hard lesson that a lot of the people pushing the elimination of 'woman' as a concept from language, healthcare, public policy and academia are themselves women and feminists.

Mitherinmolecules · 15/11/2023 20:50

That Jodie isn't as completely stupid as she seems getting funding for a PHD in that GUFF. It really is what the world needs isn't it ? Meanwhile her and the delightful "Steph" can get exposure in the broadsheets and WH and no doubt waste everyone's time all expense's paid. Who's fooling who?

Justcallmebebes · 15/11/2023 20:50

I don't understand 29 men known to suffer from endometriosis. Does he mean 29 women identifying as men suffer from endometriosis?

My mind is boggled

donquixotedelamancha · 15/11/2023 21:05

29 actual men (in total, ever, across the whole world) suffer from cases that are (more or less) endometriosis becuase they have DSDs which have caused uterus wall type cell development without having a womb or other plumbing.

AIstolemylunch · 15/11/2023 21:12

I think they were referring to 29 actual men who apparently got migrating tumours outside their organs due to taking too much estrogen (for prostate cancer), having liver cirhosis which also fucks with your hormones or being very, very fat, ditto. These tumours form from epithelial cells somewhat similar, in terms of cell type, to the cells lining the edometrium aka the inner lining of a uterus, an organ unique to women. Clue's in the name of course, as endometriosis refers to cells migrating inappropriately from a woman's uterus, not some obscure hormonal problem that affects a tiny, tiny amount of unlucky men, as opposed to millions of actual women.

Of course it wont be long before larping men who have been on wrong sex estrogen for years start claiming to have it and the 29 will mysterioulsy rocket to 2.9 million transwomen have endometriosis as well. I mean, who knows, maybe they will actually a form of endometriosis around their prostates from taking too much estrogen, who knows.

Bouffe · 15/11/2023 21:13

I think I read somewhere (possibly around the time Steph was leading protests in which Steph's pals called women cunts and told them to suck lady-dick) that before transitioning shortly before turning 60, Steph was a hairdresser and ran beauty salons. I've had several rather creepy male hairdressers over the years. Couldn't understand why they freaked me. Beginning to get an inkling.

Justcallmebebes · 15/11/2023 21:20

Ahhh. Thanks

lordloveadog · 15/11/2023 21:30

Wow the answer is there in the first few sentences.

The woman who founded the organization is a single mother with chronic illness who's trying to do research on the disease.

So she doesn't have time to be CEO.

She wants to handover someone who isn't burdened with caring or female illnesses.

A special kind of woman who doesn't have to deal with woman stuff.

MrTiddlesTheCat · 15/11/2023 21:34

I don't have an issue with a biological male being CEO so long as they stay focused on women with endometriosis. Unfortunately it's already clear where Steph's priorities lie and they're not with women.

EarthSight · 15/11/2023 21:37

That's quite funny because at the beginning she's acknowledging that the CEO is not biologically female.....how bloody transphobic of her!

Livelovebehappy · 15/11/2023 21:44

I listened to it this morning and it was toe curling stuff. Absolute car crash interview for Jodie and Steph. Emma had them chasing their tails - lots of stuttering and silences.

Badchickenpecks · 15/11/2023 22:06

HumanBurrito · 15/11/2023 18:31

I wish she had probed more about Steph's qualifications and recruitment process. What exactly made them the best person for the job?

Chat over a cup of coffee I believe. Clearly had a list of probing questi9ns to ask. Not sure any of the other trustees were involved although they are all apparently over the moon.

MrTiddlesTheCat · 15/11/2023 22:07

Emma points out that Steph has made Steph's first interview on Woman's Hour all about the handful of men who have endo and the folx who don't identify as women. Then Jodie, the endo specialist, says, in a voice of almost hysterical exasperation, 'We need to move away from the gynaecological side of things...'

Is this laying the groundwork for men who identify as female accessing the services as a form of validation? Like the push from some transactivists to get transwomen smear tests?

They'll be claiming it's a trans 'gendocide'

MorvernBlack · 15/11/2023 15:49

Endometriosis affects 190 million women worldwide and less than 20 (biological) men.

https://www.healthline.com/health/can-men-have-endometriosis

And whilst I have a huge amount of sympathy with those men, it is predominantly a women's issue.

Thanks for the link.
I noticed that later in that same article they refer to ‘people who menstruate’..🙄

Men can develop endometriosis if they are given oestrogen for prostate issues, as endometriosis is an oestrogen driven benign cancer.

It's not actually explicitly linked to menstruation as we are lead to believe and shouldn't even be treated as a gynaecology issue. It's an all body benign cancer that grows spreads and destroys lives, under the guises as a women's issue.

The reason it's not treated as of yet the large pharmaceutical businesses can't invent a jab, vaccination or cure.

So here we are with a fucking twat as a ceo who is no doubt linked to pharmaceutical money as much as the charity is funded by pharmaceutical business. The charity is a joke.

If anyone had spare time view where the funding comes from.

Endometriosis isn't a benign cancer. Here's a full histopathological analysis of endometrial lesions: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC9504345/

It's linked to menstruation because endo tissue is similar to womb-lining tissue and womb-lining is shed each month during menstruation. Moreover, endo pain can get worse during menstruation.

Absolutely no idea what you're on about with the pharmaceutical companies comment.

Computer-Aided Histopathological Characterisation of Endometriosis Lesions

Endometriosis is a common gynaecological condition characterised by the growth of endometrial tissue outside the uterus and is associated with pain and infertility. Currently, the gold standard for endometriosis diagnosis is laparoscopic excision and ....

Emma did pretty well there I thought. The charity founder sounded like a woke idiot and the bloke was totally out of his depth.
