Anyone else’s work celebrating trans week/day of remembrance?

We are. I’m not exactly sure what it entails or what we are remembering, and haven’t dare ask.

It seems like blind faith drives these things. I’ll try not to disturb anyone with questions or facts.

I've seen a "day of remembrance minute's silence" advertised in another dept's Woke Officer's email signature. For all the many, many trans people who've been killed in the UK this year.

Bingobatman · 15/11/2023 09:27

Wow! Not exactly lots of brave people sacrificing themselves for my liberty unless I’m missing something here?!

The frightening thing is that somewhere, in someone’s head, this actually feels real and makes sense.

You have my sympathy xx

Whatsnewpussyhat · 15/11/2023 09:33

It just proves how little self awareness these folks actually have whilst they wallow in their own faux oppression.

JaxiiTaxii · 15/11/2023 09:36

We've got belief week. I wonder if that's the 'lite' version? Unusual because my work is a hotbed of wokeness.

Theres a box of craft resources and we have been asked to make a decoration for the belief tree 🤓

I mean. Its oddly sweet in an organisation that takes itself extremely seriously.

But the temptation to cause a stink and make a point by doing a green & purple GC belief decoration is strong.

Redshoeblueshoe · 15/11/2023 09:37

Go for it Jaxii

HoneyButterPopcorn · 15/11/2023 09:38

Belief tree? What the hell - is this in nursery? Or are actual adults doing this? Same adults who probably whinge about an office Christmas tree…

Remember the rights that TRAs are taking from us? The children harmed by harmful so-called ‘gender affirming’ treatments? Remembering the lack of freedom of speech, including on MN where even now we cannot speak the truth? Remembering the things I would get deleted for if I wrote them here…

I think against the backdrop of what's going on in the Middle East, this is going to fall flat with most people. Look at Sadiq Khan and the ratio on this. 1300 people liked, 16 million views. Roughly 8 people in every 100k.

Christ on a unicycle @JaxiiTaxii (do hope that ends up on the tree somewhere; juggling loaves & fishes obvi) that’s asking for trouble isn’t it?

Is this some sort of “we mustn’t have a Christmas Tree in case we offend people” absurdity?

The potential is limited only by the craft supplies provided. Might I suggest you go for a NUWSS [style] tree using red white & green. Nobody will challenge your innocent tree with red for blood donation; white for peace & green for the environment. If you incorporate the acorn, “from little acorns mighty oaks will grow” 😁

EDIT: obviously you shouldn’t have to sneak a belief in women’s rights onto the tree, but if it’s going to ensure no “accidents” happen & you don’t have to deal with nonsense from anyone (in this, the week of trans remembrance! How could you?!) it might be easier/safer? Even with Forstater.

I proudly wear my suffragette lanyard. I think it’s pretty and have worn it for years (this is my third job and it’s never been considered a hate crime amid the waves of rainbow lanyards).

Oh dear God @JaxiiTaxii you have to!!!

Noshowlomo · 15/11/2023 12:48

@JaxiiTaxii PLEASE! Do it anonymously!

CornedBeef451 · 15/11/2023 13:00

My work is celebrating the week and issued a very American based document explaining it and one from stonewall.

It enraged me so much that I can't even think about the nonsense.

@NitroNine - God no! It will probably be mistaken for the colours of the Palestinian flag and OP will be accused of making a political statement a la M&S-burning-Christmas-hats-in-the-fire-grate furore.

NitroNine · 15/11/2023 13:34

@yetanotherusernameAgain
imagine getting referred to prevent for your “belief tree” decoration (& won’t anyone think of the Italians in all this?!)

Justcallmebebes · 15/11/2023 13:54

Yep we are too. Apparently, it's trans awareness week and there will be a remembrance day to remember all the fallen trans people.

It's mental. I just completely ignore

TWETMIRF · 15/11/2023 14:08

Is that the ones that have fallen over due to trying to walk in heels when they're not used to it? Just going by the vastly reduced chance that trans people have of being murdered compared to pretty much everyone else

WickedSerious · 15/11/2023 14:08

You won't be laying a wreath at the coffee machine then?

MargotBamborough · 15/11/2023 14:10

I'd be so tempted to suggest holding a remembrance ceremony where a candle is lit for every trans person who has been murdered in the UK this year.

AgnesX · 15/11/2023 14:12

It's on the diversity page of the company intranet but as far I can tell noone's paying much attention.

This reminds me of when I was at school in 1999. We had to write on a paper leaf what our hopes were for the new millennium. I was sixteen and wrote "I hope I never have to do any shit activities like this".

LetMeGoogleThat · 15/11/2023 14:17

No, but I did attend an EDI course last week, which refreshingly side stepped the issue and removed the T & Q 🙌

🤣

NitroNine · 15/11/2023 14:18

Apparently what people (not on here, obviously - the ones pushing this nonsense!!!) need to remember & be aware of - tragic as ANY death (outwith a comfortable death in old age; & that is still sad for family & friends, obviously) is - is that all the available statistics demonstrate trans people are safer than their peers. (As is being discussed in this thread about recently published statistics atm, in fact.)

It is, as a PP pointed out, in particularly poor taste this year: over 130 people in a single mass grave in a hospital in Gaza & we’ve eejits in the UK twitting on about how a case that’s sub judice & the deaths of prostitutes in the country with the world’s highest murder rate mean they’re being genocided. (For anyone unaware, the use of a mass grave creates an additional level of distress for [practising] Muslims - & the supermajority of Palestinians are Muslim; the tiny Christian population has reduced by about two-thirds since Hamas took over - as, even though it’s been ruled acceptable in circumstances like this, normally it would be considered Haram & it is hard to shake that.)

rookiemere · 15/11/2023 14:25

Oh gosh yes was almost tempted to start a thread about this myself.

There is a solemn post about it on our internal media page and it's taken every inch of my self control not to ask how many deaths we are talking about here. It's in horrendously poor taste considering what's actually going on in the world right now.

The heartening thing is that the post has had very few likes or comments about it, so I think most folk are just ignoring it.
