Anyone else’s work celebrating trans week/day of remembrance?

We are. I’m not exactly sure what it entails or what we are remembering, and haven’t dare ask.

It seems like blind faith drives these things. I’ll try not to disturb anyone with questions or facts.

I’ll take a moment to remember them all when we have a day to remember all of the women killed at the hands of men this year.

Killed Women

A woman is killed by a man every 3 days in the UK. They were our daughters, sisters, mothers and loved ones. But we do not want sympathy. We want change.

Ooh, I've just checked our V Woke Govt Dept intranet and Teams pages and....... nada.

It is, however, Interfaith and Belief Week which apparently includes non-religious belief.

It is also International Fraud Awareness week which makes me laugh in this context.

Also reminders for International Men's Day on 23 Nov which is good.

sourdoughismyreligion · 16/11/2023 10:26

No, organising stuff like that would be my responsibility, and I don't even mention it.

theproudgeek · 16/11/2023 10:37

Just wanted to point out that belief week is probably a weird renaming of Interfaith Week (which has been going sunce 2009) and is all about encouraging dialogue between faiths and nothing to do with Trans Awarenss Week which is also this week.

NotTerfNorCis · 16/11/2023 11:04

Just checked our company pages. International Men's Day being flagged up; but nothing at all about trans. Two years ago, we were all being encouraged to enter our gender identity and pronouns into the HR system. It was 'optional' but they kept reminding us about the deadline. People thought it was ridiculous at the time. It seems they're quietly dropping all that nonsense.

I do think there is a general change in mood. This was a fad, a really powerful fad, that is slowly starting to dwindle away.

I think you're right geek, and that's why I haven't gone in all guns with my GC baubles. I don't want to pee in the BBQ when the spirit is positive & genuinely inclusive.

The people really pushing this here are mostly middle aged gay men and a couple of mousy older women.

I get the women - it’s shiny and new fangled and makes them feel important but the gay men? They do realise that if they were young men/kids now they’d be ripe for the picking (agencies/lobbyists seem to target kids with their cutesy names and carton visuals). They must be spending a packet on ‘training and collaboration’ with these people (the representatives of which all seem to be maleborns too).

No,I'm self employed and the customers who have brought up the subject are generally aghast at the constant pushing of Trans at every opportunity.
The DDs work with horses. Everyone there knows that mammals can't change sex and there is none of this nonsense there.
DH manages a scientific educational charity and they have no truck with it either.

Belief week?Confused

When is rationality and evidence-based thinking week, please?

SidewaysOtter · 16/11/2023 19:26

There will be an event, apparently. Speeches and all sorts. What a shame I’m not in the office that day.

What a spot on article 👏👏

And totally the bandwagon jumping by the professional virtue signallers is beyond crass.

Hasn’t Khan got enough to worry about with crime in his own city?

This line stood out for me 👏👏

It is ridiculous to compare the killings of pIt is ridiculous to compare the killings of prostitutes in developing countries with the refusal to call a man a woman in the UK. There is no pipeline from misgendering to murder.

LoobyDop · 17/11/2023 13:58

Well, I did think thank goodness someone thought to have a week about it, because otherwise we’d be at risk of forgetting all about the poor oppressed suffering in silence.

SerafinasGoose · 17/11/2023 14:02

Sex work is undoubtedly dangerous. That doesn't make it right for those sucked into that industry and exploited by it, but it's an acknowledged, statistical fact that this is something which happens in this specific context.

I'm wondering how this would make me feel if I had a trans child or younger sibling. Young trans people have a difficult enough time of it without being afraid to put their noses out of the door because this kind of fear has been disingenuously ramped up.

Women as a demographic are at far greater risk, and in the all-too frequent instances of one of us being murdered because we are women, there's little in the way of public outcry (and the woman behind #CountingDeadWomen is the increasing target of threats and harrassment).

Who, and for what reason, would convince a group of people that their demographic puts them at a particular risk of being murdered, when the statistical reality is that they're relatively safe? Certainly not a movement or ideology that has any concerns whatsoever about the interests of trans people.

And I wonder when, or if, this particular penny is going to drop.

Yup, pronoun badges are totally going to help tw sucked into the Brazilian sex trade. They're like a shield of steel.
