A pool player has forfeited her chance to win a top national title in protest at the sport allowing a transgender woman to compete against natal females.

Lynne Pinches packed up her cue and walked off as the final of the Ladies Champions of Champions got under way over the weekend.

Spectators clapped and cheered Pinches’ protest while her opponent, Harriet Haynes, appeared bemused before later picking up the trophy by default.
Pinches had been among a host of top female players to speak out in recent days over transgender women being allowed to compete against them in elite competitions.

Looks like it should hit the mark! Booked train tickets for the comp in a couple of weeks today.

27 days to go and £2700 left to raise.

I have £120 left to last me to the end of the month. I believe this is too important to ignore. £5 from me.

Let's hope this is a landmark case.

Please don't if you can't afford it, @AdultLounge - I'll happily contribute on your behalf this evening, because that is a wonderful message from you. We're in it together.

Needmoresleep · 06/12/2023 07:51

@AdultLounge I agree with AutumnCrow, and have made a second donation to help get this one over the finish line.

It is awful that whilst Stonewall and others have fat corporate donations and training fees to fund their lobbying, women are having to dig so deep to have their rights confirmed by courts.

Aw ladies you made me well up! Mumsnet can be an amazing place! Thanks for offer. I've already paid it. Thank you again. Flowers

Getting closer, it's at £18 821

The crowd funder is doing really well - we're going to get there soon, I feel.

Thank you for chipping in, and yes, I know exactly what you mean about wanting to put in a fiver even when times are lean, to be a part of it. To be part of one of the most significant fightbacks in history.

Villagetoraiseachild · 07/12/2023 19:18

It's over $19,000 now! Pounds that is!

AutumnCrow · 07/12/2023 20:49

£19,046!

All from small, individual donations. Brilliant stuff.

SausageAndEggSandwich · 07/12/2023 20:57

I put £10 in

£19,056

I hope the women bringing the case are really encouraged by how quickly they will meet their target.

DinoDays · 07/12/2023 21:04

Who'd have guessed of all the sports, it's pool and fishing women that have walked away.

Different, more down to earth demographic than hockey and rugby?

Just don't get me started on hockey! I will def walk away from the next match that has a man in it. If it gets me thrown out of the team so be it. :(

I always garden where and when I can. I hadn’t seen the fundraiser, but will dig for victory now.
Is it bad that, quite apart from being a part of helping to fund these initiatives in the first place, I take immense (and I do mean IMMENSE) pleasure in spending my, not inconsiderable, ‘middle aged lady’s’ surplus budget on whatever the fuck I like?

This is really interesting. I wonder why it’s a different demographic? 🤔

£854 left to raise

Good for her and more women in sports should do the same.

In many sports men's muscles, body built and general strength give them an unfair advantage if they were to compete against women and transitioning does not alter that basic fact. Nothing to do with discrimination and all to do with respecting the rights of female competitors.

Time to bring back some common sense.

FixItUpChappie · 04/12/2023 21:23

Still picked up the trophy. God the entitlement is strong with that one

^^This. The default of course had no shame whatsoever.

You know that online TRAs will be harping on about how ‘brave’ it was.

It’s all so ridiculous.

Needmoresleep · 08/12/2023 08:00

This is so important. It seems that the sports association changed their policy because of a threat of legal action by TRAs. Now they will see that women too, if they have to, will use the legal system to confirm their rights. I hope other sports are watching.

Empty nesters so we have a bit of spare change. When the courts come to a decision and it is reported in the papers, I enjoy telling DH he should be proud that he helped fund. He as a bit baffled that he had actively supported Posie's first Standing for Women poster, but I think he is now quietly pleased.

WickedSerious · 08/12/2023 09:15

£19,286.

fromorbit · 08/12/2023 09:17

Hugely important case as it will make all the sports trying to avoid making a decision step up.

I won't be surprised if it doesn't go to court as the pool authorities have a weak case and may fold earlier.

I saw this interview with Lynne (and Alexandra, another a woman refusing to play against male opponents in women’s competitions) pop up on YouTube and admired her even more for stating her case on public telly (I’d be very nervous).

The interviewer asked questions and Amy Anzel, with the opposing opinion, was interviewed too. I feel a bit bad for thinking that Amy comes across as smug when talking about the benefits to TW of them being in women’s sport but I think she does 😬

Amy was disgracefully racist then 😡 Serena Williams is a strong and talented WOMAN. To suggest that her playing is equivalent to men playing is appalling. She may as well just come out and say Black women are men! Appalling, racist evil. And just proving that there is no argument for men in women's sport.

FrancescaContini · 08/12/2023 06:45

I imagine it's because the teams are smaller. Letting down 10 other football players + subs by refusing to play against biological male opponents is probably quite intimidating!

ErrolTheDragon · 08/12/2023 09:56

Yes, I'm sure it's harder with teams, where you don't want to let the others down and it may be hard to know what others really think.
Not until a teammate has had her knee broken, as with the developing case in football.

Boiledbeetle · 08/12/2023 10:12

It's at £19426.
