A pool player has forfeited her chance to win a top national title in protest at the sport allowing a transgender woman to compete against natal females.

Lynne Pinches packed up her cue and walked off as the final of the Ladies Champions of Champions got under way over the weekend.

Spectators clapped and cheered Pinches’ protest while her opponent, Harriet Haynes, appeared bemused before later picking up the trophy by default.
Pinches had been among a host of top female players to speak out in recent days over transgender women being allowed to compete against them in elite competitions.

Yes, I'm sure it's harder with teams, where you don't want to let the others down and it may be hard to know what others really think.
Not until a teammate has had her knee broken, as with the developing case in football.

But wasn't it a fishing "team"?

But yes agree, it would be harder to say I'm not playing at a hockey match and "let the team down". Also you don't know your team mates opinions on the situation. These are your friends.

Last year I was livid when we played against a man. I was raging and was saying "Why is a man playing". My teams mates were horrified, looked scared and told me I couldn't say that!!

So yes it would be easier to walk away if it was just me I suppose, no one to answer to.

But I hope I have the strength not to play if we go against a man this season.

It's the principle, for me. Whether men have a massive advantage over women (football, tennis, track and field), or a more marginal one, as in cue sports, or even none at all (poker? Chess?), shouldn't matter: women should be able to have their own comp if they wish. As far as I know, women are free to enter the men's competitions (which are effectively 'open') if they qualify in cue sports. I assume similar is true in golf, say. Which is all good. But women's comps should be for women only.

Just checked, it's 19,691.
Very pleasing number, very pleasing progress!

Finally got round to chipping in. I never have any charge in my mobile to do the verify thing. But I've organised myself today <smug>.

OccultGnuNew · 08/12/2023 13:36

£19,796 is now the total.

SinnerBoy · 08/12/2023 13:47

😁

I know CrowdJustice behaved dreadfully towards Allison Bailey but being able to fund legal cases like this has been a game changer.

When you do the final step for your contribution don't forget to use the edit button on the Crowd Justice line to change the amount going to CJ to 0.00 😀

AutumnCrow · 08/12/2023 17:43

Thank goodness someone's donated £9 and tidied up the total to a nice even number Grin

SinnerBoy · 08/12/2023 18:26

I didn't know how to take the extra Quid off.

Beside each amount theres an edit option. I always go to the crowdjustice donation option and change it to 0 - let’s me contribute more to the direct cause.

They got plenty from me before they were so awful to Allison.

NutellaEllaElla · 08/12/2023 18:40

What is this 'stretch' target about?

Boiledbeetle · 08/12/2023 18:45

NutellaEllaElla · 08/12/2023 18:40

What is this 'stretch' target about?

So they don't take any donations from people's banks until the initial target is reached. Now that it has been they can take the initial £20000 in donations from people's banks now and because there is time left on the clock as they will most likely need way more than £20,000 for legal fees they stretch the target to a larger amount. Any donations you make now will be immediately taken from your bank.

This tends to happen on most of the crowd justice funds raisers.

What is this 'stretch' target about?

I think that when when a crowd funder hits its target, Crowd Justice calculates a new target, the 'stretch target'. I don't know if it's based on an algorithm that takes into account the speed at which the original target was reached, and the amount of individual donations, but I suspect so as this stretch target is ambitious. Achievable, though.

AutumnCrow · 08/12/2023 18:48

Thanks, @Boiledbeetle - very useful.

Boiledbeetle · 08/12/2023 18:50

I like the fact that someone was annoyed enough about the odd £1 that they donated £9 to round the figure up to a clean £20 050!

duc748 · 08/12/2023 19:04

I'm watching the snooker Shoot-out. I see that Barry Pinches, son of the more famous Lynne 😀is due to play tonight.

Timefordrama · 08/12/2023 19:25

I've just tried to dig, but there isn't a pledge button. Is that because there's a stretch target?
