Stonewall releases report on "dehumanising" discrimination against asexuals

GinAllAround · 02/11/2023 09:39

I'm not doubting that you can be judged socially for saying you're asexual but is it really the same as being gay or lesbian?

Although I agree that it shouldn't be classed as a MH condition, I've never heard of anyone being denied a job or housing for being asexual or being beaten up or taunted in the streets.

And what extra legal protection/rights do asexual people need? Surely they have the same rights as anyone else?

Utter clowns.

IncomingTraffic · 02/11/2023 09:48

This is so tedious.

No one cares about your asexuality. Why would you be discussing your lack of sex life with your colleagues? That would be inappropriate.

People in couples may mention their partners (in the same way people mention their kids or dogs or hobbies). They’re not talking about their sex life.

What healthcare needs do asexual people
have related to not being interested in sex? Half of asexual people will simply never have had any reason to talk to an HCP about their asexuality because it’s not relevant. Those that have are just volunteering it in relation to standard diagnostic questions relating to people’s
sex lives and health - could you be pregnant? have you recently had unprotected sex with a new partner? It’s not discrimination to ask this stuff.

What legal recognition do asexual people need?

Such absolute nonsense. Stonewall need to stop trying to find new ways to be relevant.

MrsOvertonsWindow · 02/11/2023 09:48

You take a look around the world, poverty & deprivation, child abuse, people with serious illnesses and so on - and this is what Stonewall spends some of its millions of £££ on.

Truly a luxury belief.

CyberCritical · 02/11/2023 09:50

It just makes no sense.

I understand why people who are homosexual need protections against discrimination, there are unfortunately still people in the world who have a problem with a woman having a sexual relationship with another woman, or a man having a sexual relationship with another man.

But who the hell cares if a person doesn't want a sexual relationship with anyone? Are there actually (as in literally/really/happening in reality) people out there discriminating against people who don't want to have sex with other people?

Biasquia · 02/11/2023 09:50

There is this tiresome faux made up victim mindset that has become a feature of a subset of the population that organisations such as new Stonewall propagate. For generations if people were disenfranchised they became politicised and did something constructive about it. Old Stonewall did that, new Stonewall not so much.

IncomingTraffic · 02/11/2023 09:53

Oh god. These people want fertility treatment so they can have children but not have sex.

Bloody hell. Don’t have sex if you don’t want to. But that is how babies are made.

Toseland · 02/11/2023 09:53

Getting ready for all those left with no sexual function after Trans surgeries. Their healthcare needs will probably be to be provided with a surrogate if they want a family.

nauticant · 02/11/2023 09:54

Remember that "asexuality" has become an umbrella term and includes people who regularly have sex in their relationships and also promiscuity.

IncomingTraffic · 02/11/2023 09:56

There’s actually a sob story in there about a woman who wasn’t referred for fertility treatment because she wasn’t having sex. And how she’d have been referred if she was having sex.

Obviously. If you are not having sex there is absolutely no evidence that you have fertility problems. There’s no biological dysfunction to be treated. You are simply not having sex so obviously you’re not pregnant.

This is just pandering to incredible levels of entitlement.

I think you've nailed it.

Arf.

The whinging woman is in an example
about a coil appointment. You’d think that for most people asexuality would free you from having to worry about contraception.

BlackJumpsuit · 02/11/2023 09:59

Stonewall is running out of actual hills to die on so they're a bit desperate now.

DarkDayforMN · 02/11/2023 09:59

I skimmed the report. All their examples of asexual people being treated like crap by the medical system are examples of women being treated like crap because they’re women.

They’re making it impossible to name or understand the actual problem. Of course women’s sexual choices should be respected, including the choice to not have sex. The issue is misogyny; framing it as “asexual discrimination” misses the point and isn’t going to help solve anything. 😡

nauticant · 02/11/2023 09:54

It also covers people who only want to have sex with people they’re romantically attracted to. Also known as “normal people” 🤨

PronounssheRa · 02/11/2023 10:01

I'm sure some people have odd opinions about asexuals, because people have odd opinions about absolutely everything.

But not being out at work, does anyone really care if someone is having sex or not? It's a million miles away from coming out as LGB

As for not disclosing to medical professionals, in 99.9% of interactions this is utterly utterly irrelevant

It strikes me that this is stonewalls desperate attempt to stay relevant and make money.

DevonWindyWeather · 02/11/2023 10:02

Lamelie · 02/11/2023 09:45

Utter clowns.

This.

Who cares whether you want sex are sexually attracted to or not or any of the other over 150 ridiculous self entitled genders ....

If someone told me they were x y or z I'd think what a clown why do they assume anyone else is interested. Very me me me look at me types.

nauticant · 02/11/2023 10:03

Does your "Arf" indicate you think I'm joking IncomingTraffic? It was no joke, promiscuous people can be asexual according to modern thinking.

Just wow.

jammysmol · 02/11/2023 10:06

What a lot of rot, everyone just wants to be a "special little victim" these days who gets special treatment and various advantages because life is just too hard, the poor diddum's. It started with all this "adulting is too hard" and evolved to I need extra support and privileges in life because its 10 times harder for me to exist and you "normal" people just do everything so easily and without effort.

Well news flash life is hard for everyone, everyone struggles and suffers and this prideful victim mentality and clamouring for special treatment is getting beyond tedious.

NotBadConsidering · 02/11/2023 10:06

If being asexual is a sexual orientation, then logic determines that at the other end, hypersexuality is also a sexual orientation. I bet many more women have been discriminated against at work after disclosing how much they love sex and how much sex they’ve been having recently with lots of different people.

cheezncrackers · 02/11/2023 10:07

Stonewall are a joke. They are determined to find ever more obscure and minority causes to get involved in. Why on earth would someone be beaten up in the street or denied housing or a job for being asexual FFS? How would anyone even know? And what miniscule minority of people are they getting all incensed about now? They are much of a joke as Mermaids.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 02/11/2023 10:09

Although I agree that it shouldn't be classed as a MH condition

Isn't it considered a symptom of depression etc rather than anything, rather than a MH condition in its own right?

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 02/11/2023 10:09

*I'm sure some people have odd opinions about asexuals, because people have odd opinions about absolutely everything.

I can safely say that in 45 years of work no-one's ever asked me about my sexuality or if and how I've having sex. Obvs when I was married people assumed I WAS having sex, but since being divorced it's not something I feel the need to keep people updated on. And no-one I work with has been interested enough to enquire.

As pp said - utter clowns.

MagpiePi · 02/11/2023 10:11

Surely everyone is asexual unless they are actively in the process of having a shag, seeing as how gender can be fluid from one minute to the next?

Are asexual rights that are being denied the same ones that trans people are denied, but will never actually say what they are other than the right to do whatever the hell they want?
