New guidance issued on World Menopause Day.

I have not the words.

My employer thinks trans women can go through menopause.

Wtf. I’ve actually had it now. It’s gone too fucking far. How people can blindly go around ignoring basic biology in order to be virtuous is just mad.

SunnieShine · 20/10/2023 07:58

What a chump. 😁

😂😂 this, with fucking bells on.

Yep, OP, can confirm that many charities are tying themselves up like hand-wringing pretzels to be sufficiently ‘inclusive’. It’s made me reconsider my involvement as a volunteer.

Its made me reconsider my donations..... I'll be asking to see their policies before giving now.
They can f...k off with their dick policies, using funds to pay for inclusion advisors and B Corp acceptance.

Well your employer doesn't think trans women can go through menopause do they, it very clearly states that trans women may experience limited menopause like symptoms if they choose to stop taking HRT?

But please don't let that stop the outrage.....

On the first page it refers to being something transwomen can suffer very close to the definition being the shutting down of the ovaries…….

Not many people read an entire policy to check for the ifs, buts and maybes.

You don't need to read the entire policy, it's made quite clear in the second quite short section which you posted a photo of in your OP.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 20/10/2023 11:11

if they choose to stop taking HRT?

It's not "HRT", they aren't "replacing" female sex hormones, they are adding them where there would only be minuscule amounts. Because they are male, not female.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 20/10/2023 11:14

And they don't "experience a type of menopause" when they come off their added cross sex hormones. Menopause is something only female people experience.

Lovemychair · 20/10/2023 11:17

Fucking outrageous 😡

Interesting isn't it, how the menopause is making it's way into policy, since men starting saying they can get it. Interesting.

Very good point!

Which is in the middle of the second page, almost at the end of the policy.

Agreed. My local Council now have a 'menopause and other hormonal conditions' policy which, rather laudablely, includes conditions such as endometriosis. It also covers conditions which affect males who have taken hormones. Fine.

But it's 2023. This is the first time they've had any kind of policy which even attempts to support women in the workplace who are going through the menopause and other hormonal issues and which will affect a considerable percentage of women.

I'm inclined to agree with a pp poster that it's a recruitment issue more than rather belated concern for issues which women face due to their sex.

Rightsraptor · 21/10/2023 07:03

'Other hormonal conditions' @Waitwhat23? That's a pretty big field, just ask an endocrinologist.

Your employer may not yet realise what they've let themselves in for.

glitterfinder · 21/10/2023 07:41

My (large) employer sent a menopause directive. It managed to not mention the word 'women' yet included a large section on male menopause and erectile dysfunction.
I would say I have no words. However, I have plenty of them which are unfit for a current-day workplace.

Oh, I know! When I was reading through the list of conditions mentioned specifically, I could see an argument for loads of other conditions to be added, particularly as the wording reads 'including but not restricted to'. It's still in draft form so it'll be interesting to see the final version.

Exactly.

Withdrawal symptoms, that's what they experience.

Sillysettingqww · 21/10/2023 08:49

I thought the second picture explained all the different aspects very clearly.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 21/10/2023 09:27

Men do not experience "a type of menopause" however clearly they wrote it.

EnjoythemoneyJane · 21/10/2023 09:56

Meno = menstrual (from ‘month’)
Pause = stop, the end of

The end of menstruation.

No biological male on the fucking planet can experience this, or any version of it, or anything ‘similar’.

AltitudeCheck · 21/10/2023 12:49

I breathed a small sigh of relief when our (NHS aligned) employer used the term 'women' throughout our menopause day material (with a footnote to add that they used 'women' but also recognised trans men and non-binary afab people may also be affected by declining oestrogen levels). When they did mention trans women coming of oestrogen and getting hormonal symptoms they called it a pseudo menopause (this was in the mandatory inclusion and diversity section at the end, not throughout the document).

I hope this is a sign that common sense is slowly filtering through our organisation!

UtterlyUnimaginativeUsername · 19/10/2023 09:08

I've just check my employer's intranet site about menopause and it's chock full of references to women Grin 'She' and 'her' all over the place. It even mentions that if a woman has had a hysterectomy, she will go through menopause early as a result. Because, you know, she's still a woman. Not a single instance of 'cis' to be found. It's like going back in time.

Going back in time to when things made sense and men didn't experience the fucking menopause... oh, wait....

carlysumon · 21/10/2023 13:42

Ffs! Definitely worth considering an employer’s approach to this topic in the future I mean…
