New guidance issued on World Menopause Day.

I have not the words.

My employer thinks trans women can go through menopause.
My employer thinks trans women can go through menopause.

Interesting isn't it, how the menopause is making it's way into policy, since men starting saying they can get it. Interesting.

Ain't that the truth...

Britneyfan · 19/10/2023 00:44

@moogdroog What?!! That’s even madder!

ErrolTheDragon · 19/10/2023 00:48

There's an error in your title, OP.
It says 'My employer thinks....'

Clearly, they don't.

AlphaTransWoman · 19/10/2023 01:59

Ummm. I'm pretty sure we don't get the menopause as such.

Helleofabore · 19/10/2023 02:06

JellySaurus · 18/10/2023 23:24

I have had a transwman try to tell me that their experience coming off oestrogen for a few weeks before having surgery was comparable to menopause.

No.

Oh that is grim jelly. Really fucked up.

It is offensive for any male person to suggest they do. And just as offensive for any male person to say they experience any part of the menstrual cycle.

TheHappyCarrot · 19/10/2023 02:17

Ha, if only we could pass the menopause over to men. Then they 'd be sorry.

AlisonDonut · 19/10/2023 05:01

At all. You won't get any menopause at all due to you not having ovaries.

Jesus H Christ on a cracker. When did people get so utterly [redacted]?

Westfacing · 19/10/2023 05:13

We are referred to as cisgender and assigned female at birth; only the trans person is referred to as a woman, a trans woman.

EdgeOfACoin · 19/10/2023 05:33

I've been very wary about all of the discourse on menopause in the workplace in the last few years, because I have concerns that it will just make it harder for middle-aged women to get jobs or be taken seriously. I would like the medical profession to take the menopause more seriously. I'm less keen on the idea of work coffee mornings where everyone can sit around and chat about the symptoms. However, I sort of get it, and maybe some women will find it useful.

But this nonsense about 'non-binary' people getting the menopause (only one type of non-binary person goes through the menopause - the female kind) and male-bodied people going through the menopause demeans and makes a mockery of the whole biological process.

Where menopause is genuinely an issue in the trans community, it is in cases where female-bodied people in their early twenties have taken testosterone for a number of years and then had a hysterectomy. Female-bodied people going through the menopause in their twenties and dealing with osteoporosis in their thirties is one of the saddest and most shocking things about this whole situation.

Lord save us.

"Talk about stating the fucking obvious. Males don't experience the menopause. "

The nhs now has a male menopause page. And company's are adding it to their employment guidelines, allowing men time off to deal with it.

Morph22010 · 19/10/2023 05:39

Funnily enough we had a menopause policy issued recentky at work, I just checked and it says this which is fair enough “Most women will experience menopause at some point during their life. Menopause can also impact people who may not identify as female, such as trans and non-binary people”

Athrawes · 19/10/2023 05:45

Please tell us who this organisation is so that we never give them our money.

It’s an absolute joke. I’m so fucking tired of women being constantly undermined…forever has the menopause been ignored or belittled in the workplace, society, media- even medicine but now our collective voices are louder about the topic suddenly it’s claimed men can go through it and get time off and it’s only now fully recognised and appreciated. Because men have claimed it. Seriously. Just another way to suppress and undermine women. You couldn’t make it up. Menopause is BIOLOGICAL SCIENCE and a FACT for WOMEN NOT MEN!!! Middle Aged tiredness in men, baldness and minor drop in testosterone is not the fucking same as the menopause!!! 😡

HermioneWeasley · 19/10/2023 06:26

They sound mental

Neverinamonthofsundays · 19/10/2023 06:28

Sick to the back teeth of this shit.

Cisgender really boils my piss too.

Brefugee · 19/10/2023 06:32

moogdroog · 18/10/2023 23:52

Our menopause policy tells us we must be especially mindful of transwomen who 'might be mourning their lack of menopause'.

I kid you not.

That would make me aggressive. Which I would wave off with a cheery "god, hormones, eh?"

Fair enough. Centres women, acknowledges female reality-deniers, and does not pander at all to male reality-deniers.

i often think that if they really believe this then science needs to come up with a way to give them severe dysmenorrhea, pmt etc Let them experience the whole gamut.

Idiotic, isn't it. Men don't have menses, they've nothing to stop. There's this massive clue in the name. Men should find their own name for whatever-it-is some of them may experience in middle age.

I'm perilously close to understanding (though not condoning!) why some organisations refer to 'menstruators'.Hmm

I think (though I may have picked it up wrong) that the condition which refers to a drop in testosterone in men as they age is andropause. It's sometimes referred colloquially as 'the male menopause' but it's not the same thing.

GrimDamnFanjo · 19/10/2023 07:27

Thing is, what can we do?

Same here.
Honestly, I dread to think how much time, energy, goodwill and effort is being diverted from our charitable aims, collectively, across the sector.
We are drunk on this shit.
