Anyone else GC and left wing in their politics?

I am finding the conservative party conference difficult in some sense as I agree with some of their GC policies and attitudes yet would describe my self as a working class died in the will leftie. I really don't like this assumption that being for women's rights automatically means people associate you with right wing politics in general. For me it's simply not the case.

Why is it that poor now associate left with trans rights????

Me. Being GC is absolutely of a piece with my leftwing politics as it's advocating for (the preservation of) women's rights.

MrsS0fa · 05/10/2023 06:51

Me. I have nearly always voted Labour (v occasionally LD for tactical reasons when i lived in a different constituency).

I think there are many of us, which is why there is such disappointment with Labour over this. RW parties are not afraid to call a spade a spade over this issue; LW parties are terrified. That said, I am not a single issue voter and will not vote Conservative because I believe they are fundamentally bad for the country.

bellac11 · 05/10/2023 06:54

Me, Ive learnt not to care if someone I hate shares my views though but Im aware of how its portrayed, Im a big old right wing bigot probably.

megletthesecond · 05/10/2023 06:58

Me

ProfessionalTeaDrinker · 05/10/2023 07:00

Me. I feel a bit lost politically tbh and no idea how to vote anymore. I can't vote conservative, I disagree with them on so many things and think they have caused so many issues. But all the other parties seem to be prepared to throw women and our rights under the bus. I'm not a bigot, I want to have a conversation and find solutions to the issues. But just wanting to have the conversation and not throw open the doors to women's spaces and rights to anyone and everyone without discussion or looking at safeguarding implications has had me labelled a bigot so here are!

starfruittree · 05/10/2023 07:02

Yes, me. Generally vote Labour now but previously almost always swayed to Lib Dems or Greens. I can't take either of those parties seriously anymore and very much doubt I will again.

Hoardasurass · 05/10/2023 07:04

The problem is with the left wing parts who are pushing this dangerous extremists bs. They have become more tyrannical and hard line on this than I've seen since Stalin (did his regime in history).
Basically the left has willfully and intentionally thrown women under the trans rights bus and told us (left wing women) to suck it up and thought that we would 1, do as they tell us and 2, that the tories wouldn't jump on this and use it to defeat the left

ATerrorofLeftovers · 05/10/2023 07:04

Me. I can’t tell you how disappointed I am with Labour. Or in this puerile attempt to brand anybody GC/a fan of reality as right wing.

NumberTheory · 05/10/2023 07:09

Me. And so are most of the high profile, activist, GC women in the UK.

fabricstash · 05/10/2023 07:10

Me! The stupidity some MPs are coming out with is shocking. I speak often about GC issues in public and most agree but won't speak up

Twizzletoe · 05/10/2023 07:11

Me too. I went to school on free school meals, uniform grant for secondary school and first in my extended family to go to university in the 1980s so loan free. I am where I am because of socialist ideas. I feel so disappointed that both labour and the Lib Dem’s are so stuck on this issue. I have never voted conservative so have no clue what to do come the general election. Perhaps I will vote Plaid - oh no they are also full on TWAW, except when the previous leader and his same sex partner were choosing a surrogate 🙄

Nortam · 05/10/2023 07:11

Me. It's hard place to be.

HagoftheNorth · 05/10/2023 07:11

Me as well - I think this may be quite a common position in the UK.

For me, gender identity appears to be a very individualistic mantra, demanding additional privileges with no willingness to consider the rights and needs of other people in the community, and no respect for the social contract. This seems to reflect a much more right-wing ideology.

I’m not sure how it’s become so embedded in the left, other than by force teaming with LGB (a group with which it has very little common interest and quite a lot of direct conflict)

ArenaDavina · 05/10/2023 07:12

I've always voted Labour, or local independent. I was a member of Amnesty for 20+ years. I help run collections for the local food bank and am actively involved in local refugee and asylum seeker support. I've spent my entire working life engaged in public sector and vcse work. To describe me as right wing is absolutely ludicrous.

I voted for an MP who is now well known for their vehement TRA position and an appalling attitude to women. I have had my eyes opened.

Labour are absolutely unelectable for me. The behaviour they not only allow but encourage is completely unacceptable to me.

The fact that I have no one to vote for is massively disappointing and the ball is very much in their court.

ArabellaScott · 05/10/2023 07:13

Yes, me. Left leaning all my life, now politically homeless.

Tiddlywinkly · 05/10/2023 07:13

Another politically homeless 😞

Skyellaskerry · 05/10/2023 07:16

Me too.

Yirk · 05/10/2023 07:16

Me too!! I would find it against my feminist principles not to use my vote, but for the first time in my life I have no idea who to vote for, they are all crap.

Cappuccinfortwo · 05/10/2023 07:17

Me. In the UK being GC is very much leftwing. It's the Labour party who have moved away from their roots, not women.

loislovesstewie · 05/10/2023 07:19

Yes, I haven't a clue how to vote next time. I think my issue is that I am ,at heart, a practical person. I want a practical way to overcome issues/make the world better and essentially politics is just a lot of wordy, airy -fairy nonsense. It's really sectarian , with us or against us stuff.
I might even not vote, and I'm ashamed of that.

h1d1ng1npla1ns1ght · 05/10/2023 07:23

Me, too.
I’m a pretty hardcore leftist. And my simplistic explanation is that left wing radical feminists/left wing gender critical women want to maintain a sex distinction between men and women for women’s safety and to maintain women as the centre of feminism. This is me. We can’t let feminism become male-centred, and liberal/capitalist feminism is just that. The religious right seem to want to maintain a sex distinction because it upholds traditional values And gender roles, and on the extreme right just because they think cross-dressing is a perversion.
It shits me as someone who thinks the only way to advance the status of women is to encourage gender non-conformity, especially in men. There should be room in masculinity, in manhood, for men who wear wigs and dresses and other traditionally feminine expressions. There is no place in womanhood for them. I hate being lumped in with neonazis for thinking that.

ConnieSaks · 05/10/2023 07:24

Me too! I will be voting labour though (they are still overall the best of a bad bunch - plenty like Rosie Duffield in the party!)

theDudesmummy · 05/10/2023 07:26

I am GC and a socialist.
