Disappointing from Modibodi

What are young women and older children going to think when they see these images...? Why not use images of art or nature if you want to be gender neutral? I suppose the marketing company thought they wanted to appeal to all possibilities but obviously to hell with women and what they might think.

Because they're using models to represent more diverse bodies? I don't really see the problem with this to be honest.
If anything it's probably reassuring for those women and girls who don't fit in with more gendered images.

IcakethereforeIam · 29/09/2023 17:48

At least that's a woman, even if a gender nonconforming one, who actually has a possibility of menstruating. The nonsense they churn out about tw menstrual cycles is much more annoying.

I'm not too fussed about this.

fedupandstuck · 29/09/2023 17:48

I would imagine that soon the upcoming generation will find all this to be desperately old hat and unfashionable, and companies will drop it like a hot stone.

It's (probably) not a naturally diverse body, it's (probably) a surgically and hormonally altered body. Not many young women and girls cultivate a moustache deliberately, or are able to even if they wanted to.

Madamwahselle · 29/09/2023 17:50

It's a woman though

Madamwahselle · 29/09/2023 17:50

Sorry I meant it's a woman though so it's fine

Ohthatsabitshit · 29/09/2023 17:54

I would imagine if you were a trans man these products would be really good as basically you can ignore your period and just wear and change the underwear. For me no more offensive than gratuitously breast enhanced women. So not my cup of tea but bound to appeal to some.

itsmylife7 · 29/09/2023 17:56

I'm sure most people looking at that will see " a man " completely flat chest and moustache !

So how many women do you know like that?

It's only the people who are aware of the situation who'd look closer and realise, its a biological Woman, albeit one who's taking male hormones.

Talipesmum · 29/09/2023 17:58

The model is a trans man, and there are surely trans men - female people - who have periods, so I don’t think this is an issue. The website also shows how the pants look on different body sizes and tbh I really wish more websites did this!

SweetPetrichor · 29/09/2023 18:01

What’s the problem. The model is a trans man; someone who may menstruate and use modi bodi products. He is part of their target audience just as much as you or I.

newhere24 · 29/09/2023 18:03

He‘s a trans man. He needs period products. What is the issue? Nothing offensive on show.

Pudmyboy · 29/09/2023 18:11

Yes a woman but a trans male is such a small part of the cohort of women; if this is their only picture for this product then they are missing a huge part of their target purchasers: it would be more inclusive if this pic was part of several different types of women shown wearing this product

NeighbourhoodWatchPotholeDivision · 29/09/2023 18:11

I'm already boycotting modibodi for calling women "menstruators". If all they'd done was market themselves like this to female transitioners identifying as men, I wouldn't be bothered. Specific targeted campaigns at particular market segments are fine; dehumanising women is not.

Well put!

ResisterRex · 29/09/2023 18:21

If you're medicalised such that you grow a moustache, do you have periods? Does anyone know? Because it does look like glamorising transition, which isn't without consequences (vaginal atrophy, I'm sure I've read). I'm not sure it's nothing to see, move along exactly b

Ohthatsabitshit · 29/09/2023 18:49

Do modibodi still call women menstruators? I thought they’d just removed it quietly.

Lots of women have facial hair and small breasts. To be pedantic.

Froodwithatowel · 29/09/2023 18:53

I see this kind of thing now and all I hear is 'oh we're so cool and progressive and edgy'.

And grimace and go away. It's like running into a bore at a party or someone who wants to demand to know if you're saved.

ArabellaScott · 29/09/2023 18:53

I'm boycotting modibodi for being 3 times as expensive as the perfectly serviceable Sainsbury's own, and less comfortable.

MyJetNowAirlines · 29/09/2023 18:56

Facial hair that they can twiddle to that extent?

(sorry the quote button didn’t work but this was in response to this PP talking about how women can have facial hair and flatter chests)

Tiny,small breasts yes.
A full bushy moustache, really 😂

They may well have done.

However, I won't be quietly forgetting the insult. I won't be shopping with them unless they offer a sincere apology. Said apology will need to acknowledge that they insulted and demeaned women.

Ohthatsabitshit · 29/09/2023 19:08

@NeighbourhoodWatchPotholeDivision I don’t think I need that at all. I find “Offence” so weaponised now that I almost prefer just a change in behaviour without comment.

That’s why I feel ok with this - that’s exactly what they do. There’s a drop-down menu right below the pic and you can select from loads of different women to view on different size / shape bodies.

This model appears twice on page 3 of 4 on their website. They are in the market of selling "period pants" and the vast majority of the models are women.

As well as the basic category of "women who have periods" there are other categories of people who might have special knicker needs. There are pregnant women, post partum women, babies and men (wearing pants designed for male incontinence issues) who appear before him.

It's fine.
