State of this. I feel a campaign coming on.

(a colleague shared this from an ACAS Menopause webinar.)

Well, as much as I appreciate the travisty that menopause literature doesn't even mention women, there is quite a large group of people who will also be experiencing menopause - those women who identify as men, take testosterone and have hysterectomies.

They will be menopausal even if they are still only very young.

Perhaps menopause literature should separate these out into two groups, though?

ArabeIIaScott · 22/09/2023 09:13

Women - half the population - don't get a mention, but half the presentation there is at great pains to describe VSD/DSD issues and trans issues.

ResisterRex · 22/09/2023 09:13

"Sex assigned at birth" Hmm

LoobiJee · 22/09/2023 09:13

Was there another slide that explained what the menopause actually is?

I can’t see a description, definition or explanation of the menopause in those so-called “Key Points”

ArabeIIaScott · 22/09/2023 09:13

Fucksake, ACAS.

LoobiJee · 22/09/2023 09:16

What are the “physical symptoms” of the menopause that have a significant impact on employers?

What are the “psychological symptoms” of the menopause that have a significant impact on employers?

And what is the mechanism by which that “significant impact” takes effect on an employer?

Signalbox · 22/09/2023 09:16

“It is important for employers to be aware of all the people who might go through the menopause or menopause symptoms”

What utter clowns 🤡
How the fuck are employers going to be aware of which people go through the menopause if the educators can’t even bring themselves to name who those people are?

”training staff on how to communicate effectively can help”

🤡🤡🤡🤡

RoseslnTheHospital · 22/09/2023 09:17

What transwomen experience if their cross sex hormones are interrupted is not menopause. The clue is in the effing name. They have no meno to pause. In the same way that a man having hormone treatment for prostate cancer experiencing side effects is not having menopause symptoms. FFS. Nevermind the whole psychological aspect of fertility ending and attitudes towards ageing women from society.

Clymene · 22/09/2023 09:19

ACAS can get in the fucking bin

GCWorkNightmare · 22/09/2023 09:20

This is the handout. I don’t know what was on the slides but I doubt they we’re different in approach to this.

Fucking hell. How would women - 99% of people who actually get the menopause even know that leaflet was for them? Is there a separate one for women?

GCWorkNightmare · 22/09/2023 09:21

It’s a handout from a webinar for employers. Not a leaflet.

“They will be menopausal even if they are still only very young. “

That could have been dealt with in the guidance, by saying that ……..”the menopause is when women naturally cease ovulating and menstruating, most commonly in their 40s and 50s. Women may also have reproductive health surgery which causes similar symptoms to the menopause. Some women experience early menopause in their 30s or even 20s although this is much rarer. “

No surprise there, nearly all the Unions are captured by the woo.

ACAS is not a trade union.

So is that the whole of the handout? Is that all it says? Crikey.

GCWorkNightmare · 22/09/2023 09:28

Ironically, ACAS are the organisation charged with concilliating between employers and employees in sex discrimination cases. But they can’t bring themselves to use the word woman in a document about discrimination due to a sex-based life event!

This is presumably the registration page. Lots of 'women'.

'This October is Menopause awareness month. The menopause is a natural occurrence, yet up until recently, it has received little attention despite the impact it is known to have on women at work.

The average age of women who reach menopause in the UK is 51, although some women may experience this sooner whether by nature or other health conditions. Research in 2021 by Benenden Health found 23% of women who have been unwell due to menopause have left jobs, with 48% of participants in their ‘National health and wellbeing at work’ report stating menopause causes low mood and poor mental health.

Additionally, a poll by the Fawcett Society reported that a quarter of employees currently experiencing the menopause said their experience has made them more likely to leave the workforce before retirement. Join Acas for this webinar where we will discuss the importance of supporting those experiencing the menopause, including: An overview of the menopause and who it affects The impact in the workplace An employer’s legal responsibilities Case studies from real experiences How the organisation and managers can support staff'

Apparently ACAS left Stonewall's Diversity Champions programme in 2021. You wouldn't know it though. I want to write the word WOMEN in huge letters across their stupid handout and then give it back to them. A whole page on trans and not one mention of women, fully 51% of the population and 100% of the people who go through menopause? FFS!

LoobiJee · 22/09/2023 09:31

ResisterRex · 22/09/2023 09:13

"Sex assigned at birth" Hmm

It’s worse that that. It says “trans is an umbrella term that refers to individuals whose sex is different to that assigned at birth”.

Setting aside the fact that no one can change sex, it’s not even an accurate definition of the “umbrella term: trans”. The trans umbrella relates to individuals’ gender identity. That definition should say individuals who believe their gender identity does not align with their sex recorded at birth.

That Dr Louise Newsom, whose approach I have found ... interesting. WRT positing HRT as a solution for everyone, despite NICE/NHS guidelines saying differently.

Dr Newsom makes a lot of money out of women.

Wow. That’s poor.

From what I’ve seen of ACAS, it doesn’t surprise me that much. It’s still disappointing though.
