Just saw this on Twitter:

The start of the 2023 XC season today and thanks to new rules from @BritAthletics and @EnglandAthletic for the first time in 8 years, there were only females running in the women’s races. At last, fairness for females in licensed races entered after Mar 31st

Finally! What an amazing achievement for all the women and men who have worked so tirelessly to bring fairness back to women's sport.

A pleasure to read.

Aren't we lucky!! (I don’t wish to take away from what great news this is but we’re allowed to be rather pissed off about the last 8 years aren’t we)

AtrociousCircumstance · 17/09/2023 09:41

Fantastic news.

IcakethereforeIam · 17/09/2023 09:42

That does lay it out rather starkly.

Clymene · 17/09/2023 09:42

Yes we are Lizzie. And we still have a long way to go.

Glad to hear this.

JuliePi · 17/09/2023 09:47

Hopefully we see more of this from now on..

BCCoach · 17/09/2023 09:51

As it should be. In cycling the cyclocross season has just kicked off (it’s our equivalent of cross country running) and due to the new BC rules from May the same is true.

TWETMIRF · 17/09/2023 09:54

Disgusting that women have had to fight for this to happen but great to hear that the women yesterday got to have a fair race

Plasmodesmata · 17/09/2023 10:09

It is a shame for the women of the last 8 years who lost out - are the results from those years going to stand or will they be altered (like when they find out someone was cheating via drugs?)

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 17/09/2023 10:11

8 years? Wow, I’m shocked by that, I thought the madness was relatively recent. Obviously not.

MrsMarzetti · 17/09/2023 10:11

Fantastic news and now lets hope other sporting associations follow suite and get rid males from women's sports.

FemaleAndLearning · 17/09/2023 10:26

Great news, one sport at a time.

SpiderMaam · 17/09/2023 10:29

Great achievement!

But what a shitshow that getting back to this was ever necessary.

334bu · 17/09/2023 10:36

Great news.

Rightsraptor · 17/09/2023 10:57

Wonderful news.

They will stand. Just like results from races before PEDs were banned still stand. No rules were broken.

misscockerspaniel · 17/09/2023 12:49

On the one hand, great news. On the other, shameful that some males wanted to, and were permitted to, race against women.

ArabeIIaScott · 17/09/2023 12:53

I don't even run, but I feel like a weight has been lifted.

Well done to all who worked so hard for this.

MagpiePi · 17/09/2023 12:54

It is so completely batshit crazy that only women are competing in a women’s competition is newsworthy.

It really is

Nice to have a bit of good news (even if 'women-only race only open to women' shouldn't be news).

Snowypeaks · 17/09/2023 18:32

Thanks for this piece of good news. It shows all those working tirelessly and selflessly to take back what is ours that it's worth keeping going.

TrashedSofa · 17/09/2023 22:05

How wonderful!

Apollo441 · 18/09/2023 02:17

If the records can't be erased then the records, under the new rules, should start again now. The cheats shouldn't be allowed a legacy.
