“Gotcha question”🙄🤡

It’s only a gotcha question if you can’t bring yourself to tell the truth FFS.

Helleofabore · 28/08/2023 05:31

I wasn’t surprised by her answer. Not after her inserting gender into the Anti-discrimination Act in 2013 after Yogyakarta. Not to mention she is current chair of the Wellcome Trust.

Thingybob · 28/08/2023 05:31

She's "very happy to answer the question" but she doesn't

Helleofabore · 28/08/2023 05:44

Yes thingy, the ultimate lawyer/ politician.

ArabeIIaScott · 28/08/2023 09:51

'There are a number of people who genuinely believe that they are trapped in the wrong body and they want to be recognised as the gender their mind and soul have always told them that they are,' said Ms Gillard.'

Ye whit, hen?

Fenlandia · 28/08/2023 10:00

The Layla Moran school of secular religious nonsense about gendered souls.

ArabeIIaScott · 28/08/2023 10:28

''Most people in their lives won’t end up playing elite sport, most people won’t end up in prison, most people in their lives will encounter at some point someone who is a transexual person and I think what really counts is the openness and spirit of inclusion about the way that you encounter them,' said Ms Gillard. '

So, what she's saying is 'who cares about women's sports and who cares about women in prison', yes?

And women should be 'open' and 'inclusive' to any men who wish to join them in spaces?

Women should be nice and do as they're told.

I've not heard so much bullshit in quite some time.

dimorphism · 28/08/2023 10:33

These women who have achieved power and status and are willing to punch down on women less fortunate and children to appease men with dubious motives are beyond odious.

We see you.

I think, as a standalone statement, that is perfectly reasonable.

It's what you do with it that matters though. There are people whe 'genuinely believe' and 'want' all sorts of utterly batshit things - but nobody would dream of accommodating them in legislation.

When my dad was in hospital with Parkinsonian dementia and sepsis-induced delusions he genuinely believed the entire night shift of hospital staff had been replaced by imposters and wanted me to call the police. I didn't - I concentrated on reasuring and distracting him. A friend of mine at schools genuinely believed she was hugely fat, and wanted to lose 4 stone. Everyone else could see she was worryingly thin, and she was given extensive therapy.

The strength of somebody's belief and wants is no indication that they are right, or that anyone else should go along with it

Yes. She said she thinks they need to look at sports and prisons. But has entirely failed to determine on what basis they're segregated. And then - says they don't matter anyway.

Yes, it's a gotcha. And no amount of calm, measured speech can disguise the fact that she can't fucking answer.

Totally got.

She is quite simply saying ‘fuck you women who don’t have my privilege, you can carry the impact of TW/males in female spaces’.

It is utter bullshit and so utterly anti-female.

Lottapianos · 28/08/2023 11:16

Oh good god. Asked a question about women, waffles on about people who identify as trans. It's just pathetic, as is claiming this is a 'gotcha question '. Its only a 'gotcha' because you lot are prepared to talk in riddles and make yourselves look unhinged

Helleofabore · 28/08/2023 12:29

I have now listened to the second half of the video and I don’t think she believes these males are women at all. I believe she is definitely echoing Starmer in 99.whatever statement and very much the ‘calm down nothing is happening’ sentiment.

But yes, with an added serve of ‘most of you will never be impacted so what are you fighting for’ !

Some of her roles

She absolutely should have a better answer than what she just gave.

It's pathetic. These women with so much power, and the very fact they can't answer a straight question shows that female equality is an illusion - they know they're only there because they're handmaidens and uphold the rights of men to trample over vulnerable women and children.

Awful and despicable.

Truthlikeness · 28/08/2023 12:37

I played about as far from elite sport as you can get and still encountered transwomen in a single sex contact sport several times. And yes, they were as physically dominant and aggressive as you'd imagine.

RealityFan · 28/08/2023 12:49

Its the battle of "common sense and logic versus the memo"

The memo went around some years back. The memo said:

"Hold back on what you know to be true, what your instincts tell you, how safe you feel or don't feel, what you think is best for your female compatriots and kids, science versus superstition...and insert new thinking, the necessity to prioritise a new group even if your group is disadvantaged, practice non hate for this new group even if hate is felt by, and visited upon your group, and push this to destruction, no matter how stupid and reality-defying your statements in public will sound.

Memo ends".

flyingbuttress43 · 28/08/2023 20:22

When men play this silly gender game it's bad enough, but when women do it I want to shake them until their (non-existent) brains rattle.

What is the matter with these women? I can't find any argument to defend them with and conclude it is terminal stupidity.

Helleofabore · 29/08/2023 08:58

Gillard’s response about how few women are effected in sport is similar to this one from Senator Megan Hunt in Nebraska.

“It can be hard, when we're young, to not win a trophy sometimes. But we grow up and realize it’s not the end of the world and we don't need to turn that loss into our entire personality.”

Why is no one saying this to tw?

Heliotroper · 29/08/2023 15:32

Ms Gillard told the audience she spent half the year in the UK where she claimed the definition of a woman had become a 'gotcha parlour game' designed to catch politicians out.

Yet she has cleverly avoided that trap

ArcaneWireless · 29/08/2023 15:33

Ah - “it is not the end of the world”

No. It just feels like it some days.

It is usually US Republicans who moan about gotcha questions when asked something they have trouble answering without making a twit out of themselves. Sarah Palin started it after she could not respond to totally innocuous query about which newspapers she read.

Sueveneers · 29/08/2023 18:18

She is a complete and total bitch, I can't stand her. Then again I was always Team Rudd. She was just a greedy, political climber who wouldn't wait her turn, knifed a then popular first term sitting PM, then turned around and whinged about any accountability, turning it into everyone was after her just because she's a woman. She voted against same sex marriage to appease the socially conservative Shop, Distributive and Allied Employees' Association union. Honestly she is just contemptible.
