On twitter it's entitled "ex drag queen."

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-wales-66610787

Andrew Way, 61, of Clwyd Wen, Wrexham, admitted trying to engage in sexual communication with a child of 14 and had repeatedly breached a sexual harm prevention order.

What are the BBC up to?

Protecting the sacred caste.

Are they stupid, mad, or complicit?

Sorry I didn't see

No worries - was the middle of the night!

The only reason I went looking for the other article is because when I first saw the article on the BBC I was pretty sure it said drag queen and then when I posted the link, it had changed.

I thought I'd imagined it but no, it was the BBC monitors hard at work again

Helleofabore · 25/08/2023 08:30

So he was also know as Andrew Bryant? And James Bush?

And I note the previous ‘incident’ in 2007 is not detailed but resulted in a lifelong sexual harm prevention order. Is this the same ‘protection’ against discussion in media that protects Hayden?

Helleofabore · 25/08/2023 08:33

So known to have had at least one well used alias. Wonder what name the pride event was organised in and what name the sexual harm prevention order is in, and whether that is why it didn’t get flagged initially.

And people wonder why others don’t trust DBA checks anymore.

It is indeed.

Because unfortunately it's yet another example of someone who is using the current celebration of drag in mainstream media and society to get access to children.

Nobody is suggesting that all drag queens are paedophiles and I'm sure that the majority of drag queens who do solely adult entertainment would be appalled at this.

There are many drag queens that have spoken out saying that drag is not for children because it's not appropriate. It's not surprising that in amongst those who advocate for it, there will be some paedophiles. With libraries falling over themselves to support Drag Queen Story Time and some schools doing the same, you'd be daft not to take the free ticket in if that's your persuasion.

Exactly this. It matters because DQs are being treated as a privileged class, and given access to children. That will always attract abusers. It's the access that the issue, not the drag.

Until recently, drag was an adult-only entertainment and would have been a bizarre and unproductive choice for anyone wanting to abuse kids. Some DQs were no doubt abusers, just because they are frighteningly common in the male population, but that would have been co-incidental: there would have been no reason for any abuser to get into drag.

Drag didn't use to bother me much. I didn't find most drag artists funny and did consider it "woman face" and full of sexual stereotypes but the men doing it knew they were just dressing up not magicking in to women and if other people enjoyed it then fine let them get on with it.
It then started being reclassed as children's entertainment with drag queens being reclassified as a sort of clown alternative for children's libraries and public events and that made me wonder what was going on.
The concern was that this sort of thing was going on.

milknbean · 25/08/2023 09:01

I don't understand why TRAs are so defensive about drag queens. Surely drag - pretending to be the opposite sex - is a completely different thing to innately believing that you are the opposite sex.

My heqd hurts trying to understand it.

ArabeIIaScott · 25/08/2023 09:05

I've not heard a better description of drag queens than 'sex clowns'.

Bros before hoes, innit? It makes no sense on one level, but the unifying factor is men standing together to silence women who object to being objectified.

Drag queens who abuse kids make other drag queens look bad. Best hide that detail then, eh! Even though the original screenshots and receipts remain.

'"Drag has changed over the years," he said.
"I am old school - comedy, singing, performing. Drag is getting younger and younger, and they haven’t had the experience they need.
"I went to theatre school, I trained in sword fighting, in makeup. They want to be a drag artist without the work.
"I envy them - don’t get me wrong, they’re fabulous, but you don’t need to swear or lip sync.
"You’re there to entertain and, trust me, it's hard work. It takes a long time."'

Exactly. It's almost as if they don't believe their own propaganda, isn't it?

Has anyone told Janet Godley? Or has she already tweeted a link to the article with "Is a drag Queen"

I expect the drag fans will be silent on this one, as they were on Darren Moore.

ArabeIIaScott · 25/08/2023 09:29

Updates on Moore:

https://www.walesonline.co.uk/news/wales-news/darren-moore-drag-queen-cardiff-27259279

'A court hearing in March heard Clarkson harassed his victim April to June last year, posting daily on Facebook about Mr Meah-Moore's 1999 conviction for four counts of raping a boy under the age of 16. Those historic offences had seen Mr Meah-Moore sent to a young offenders' institution for three years.
Clarkson was sentenced to 30 weeks imprisonment for harassment and breaches, and was placed under an order restraining him from contacting Mr Meah-Moore's husband, also called Darren Moore, or referring to either of them on social media for five years.'

https://www.southwalesargus.co.uk/news/23657142.newport-drag-queen-darren-moore---investigation-concluded/

'A MAN arrested in connection with the death of Newport drag queen Darren Moore has been released without charge.
South Wales Police have today confirmed that their investigation into the sudden death of Darren Haydn Meah-Moore in Cardiff city centre has concluded.'

Man who harassed drag queen before death breaches court order

Donovan Clarkson, 39, of Cardiff, led a campaign of harassment against Darren Meah-Moore, and chased him down the street shouting "He's a paedophile". His victim was later found dead.

Helleofabore · 25/08/2023 09:35

Wow. Moore’s death investigation concluded with no charges?

That leaves so many questions unanswered.

Clymene · 25/08/2023 09:50

The whole Darren Moore story is so weird

BovrilMartini · 25/08/2023 10:07

The whole story gets odder. The WalesOnline article about Donnavan is so odd and clumsily written. It really doesn’t make it clear that Darren Moore is a convicted paedophile
