Feminism: Sex and gender discussions
MotherEarthisaTerf · 24/08/2023 11:22

What the fuck! Obviously no one cares if you use misogynistic language. God forbid you offend their gender.

Just offend half the population instead.

HiccupHorrendousHaddock · 24/08/2023 11:24

Taking your company to a tribunal because you think someone called you a wanker is the sort of thing only a wanker would do.

RavingStone · 24/08/2023 11:24

It's factually correct. Like menstruator or birthing body.

Anyway I've called female friends wankers.

And anyway women wank too. FFS.

What about cunt?

We can rest assured that "guy" is ok because we've long been told "guys" is a gender neutral term.

RavingStone · 24/08/2023 11:26

Wanker is a very mild diss anyway. The person in question certainly deserves something stronger.

Arsehole is gender neutral.

Ohthatsabitshit · 24/08/2023 11:27

Wanker is not gender specific.
Refusing to accept that women can wank is ridiculous and harks back to an era where women were not expected to enjoy sex.

WarriorN · 24/08/2023 11:28

So we should call them terfs?

Isheabastard · 24/08/2023 11:32

Maybe we should claim wanker as a non gendered insult and start using it as often as we can to describe other women.

You are all wankers by the way. So am I and so is my cat. She says she’s not, but I know different.

BonfireLady · 24/08/2023 11:32

OMG. Madness.

So will this set a precedent of legally permissible insults based on someone's sex?

I personally have never, nor will ever, use the C word but if its use is going to be limited in law it could get very busy in the courts.

ApocalipstickNow · 24/08/2023 11:33

Never get Karen’d though. 🤔

Fenlandia · 24/08/2023 11:33

Lost the case anyway:

"The agency worker also claimed a driver drove too close to her because she is trans, which made her fear for her life, the tribunal heard.
She lost her case after the panel decided the “w----r” incident had not actually occurred."

BonfireLady · 24/08/2023 11:35

Also how does this sit alongside the Forstater judgement?
It doesn't work. Anyone can use any insult in line with their own beliefs. Whether they should or not is another matter but legally, they can.

HerAvatar · 24/08/2023 11:35

Wanker is completely gender neutral where I'm from 🤷🏻‍♀️ Also, why have the tribunal even weighed in on gender-appropriate insults when their conclusion was that the 'wanker incident' never happened?

mrshoho · 24/08/2023 11:36

Urrhgg what a waste of time and money.

Steakandquinoa · 24/08/2023 11:39

I can’t see the whole story but surely the point of an insult is to insult someone. It’s either appropriate or not depending on the setting (not at work). Wether I’m called a bitch or cock makes no difference, it’s still insulting. And yeah, wanker is not a sexed/ gendered term. Oh I give up!

ChristinaXYZ · 24/08/2023 11:44

Even though the case was lost (because the tribunal did not believe it had happened) the fact that "the panel ruled that if it had been used against her it would have been discrimination" is another serious contribution to the repeated chilling effect on free speech that the interaction of gender ideology and the Equality Act is generating.

DiabolicalFinial · 24/08/2023 11:53

Wanker is a equal opportunity insult.
Tosser (which I have been known to use strangely only when driving) is specially reserved for males.

BernardBlacksMolluscs · 24/08/2023 12:03

Person who is living their life pretending to be something they’re not turns out to be an unreliable witness. Heavens!

Datun · 24/08/2023 12:08

Jesus bloody wept. So now, in the middle of an argument, when you disagree from top to bottom with the transwoman you're arguing with, you still have to validate them.

Datun · 24/08/2023 12:10

What happens to those men with self-confessed AGP? You still have to affirm them, in the middle of insulting them, too?

That's going to make their heads spin.

(not all, HQ, some. Not generalising, obvs).

ArabeIIaScott · 24/08/2023 12:14

'“I saw he didn’t accept my gender because in the workplace we have different cultures, different religions, and he is standing there with two other drivers in the middle, and looking at me in a very serious way, because he didn’t like what he could see in front of him.'

So what this transwoman is saying is that his 'gender reassignment' characteristic trumps someone else's belief or religion, in effect?

I wonder if we can encourage him to appeal.

Chersfrozenface · 24/08/2023 12:21

"..he is standing there with two other drivers in the middle, and looking at me in a very serious way, because he didn’t like what he could see in front of him."

Isn't that just a verbose version of "He looked at me funny"?

Wetandhorrible · 24/08/2023 12:25

Fenlandia · 24/08/2023 11:33

So would "liar" be ok and gender neutral enough?

JustFrustrated · 24/08/2023 12:29

Weirdly, same. I only use it when driving or in relation to drivers.

E.g. on 5th AVE in NYC the other day called some prat in an Escalade "a tosser" much to DHs amusement and the confusion of the Canadians/Americans near us.

(Tbf he was driving like a tosser).

Outside of driving related incidences, never use it.

Am quite enjoying "prat" at the moment.

ApocalipstickNow · 24/08/2023 11:33

Never get Karen’d though. 🤔

Yup, my sentiments exactly. A term used to shut women up is fine apparently....

IcakethereforeIam · 24/08/2023 12:36

So, 'twat'? Which I use for any and all genders, would have been okay?

Also, can't follow this bit

She said he “pushed” her arm with her shoulder and “exhibited hostility” which made her “very upset”.

Who's the her whose shoulder he used to push 'her' arm, or was it 'her' own shoulder? I assume then he'd got 'her' in some kind of arm lock. Or perhaps everyone is finding these fucking pronouns really confusing 😕
