Accidentally going to see Billy Bragg

I booked tickets for a festival. One of the headliners has now been replaced at the last minute by our FWR favourite Billy Bragg. Tell me I won't explode with irritation on seeing him?

Get a T saying "I'm Billy Bragg."

(Twitter joke!) Grin

Joolsin · 22/08/2023 17:18

Could you heckle him?!!!

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 22/08/2023 17:19

OMG I couldn't. I already found him talentless and annoying before he ever jumped on his current bandwagon.

You're at a festival. There are many alternatives to see.

😩

I was ambivalent before he started flaunting his misogyny - could probably have enjoyed him live. But now...

It's a very small local festival. But yes, true, there will be other places to go...

Yes because someone interrupting a performance of someone that people have paid money to see is so edgy 🙄

Redshoeblueshoe · 22/08/2023 17:32

No Maddy - you have missed the point - no one paid to see Billy Bragg, he's a replacement

So presumably you hate trans-activists trying to interrupt GC events then?

StaplerLover · 22/08/2023 17:38

I won't be heckling, because sadly I'm not really a heckling type, but I might be doling out some very grumpy menopausal glares.

Or the staff at The Stand and their 'edgy' behaviour?

But if people choose to see him they want to see him.

They could see numerous other acts

I would never impede someone else's enjoyment intentionally

I don't hate anyone ....

However yes. If I want to see an act I dont want it ruined by anyone. Not sure why you find that difficult to understand ?

TeenEyeroll · 22/08/2023 17:45

Gawd. Since when has heckling been so far beyond the pale? Back in the day heckling was pretty normal.

TeenEyeroll · 22/08/2023 17:45

Square.

TeenEyeroll · 22/08/2023 17:47

I would enjoy the performance much more if saw BB being heckled. It would make my day. Maybe there would be many others in the audience who feel the same and are peeved with the switch?

Well I don't know how you feel until I ask you because I'm not psychic.

Not sure why that's difficult for you to understand?

Depending whether it"s rural or sub/urban, there'll be an attractive hedge or fence to look at, I imagine. With a pair of headphones and a bottle of something strong.

MavisMcMinty · 22/08/2023 17:56

I saw Billy Bragg three New Year’s Eves in a row in the early 1990s (my ex was a fan) and honestly, it/he were great, a proper party. The wonderful Kirsty MacColl guested for two of them. However much of a pranny he’s being IRL at the moment, he does a good gig.

Because you you failed to understand that I disliked anyone interrupting , tiy asked me a question. Do you understand now or are you just being snippy ?

I have heard he can be great live - till all this, I'd probably have quite looked forward to seeing him. Maybe with enough cider, I can learn to love him despite his newfound idiocy...

This is the Moseley folk festival. You don't have to watch. I've been a couple of times and you can easily chill at the back and ignore him. I have seen billy bragg thpugh a few years ago with my DH. I wasn't into it but when he came on he did all his lovey dovey songs and it was actually really good!

topnoddy · 22/08/2023 18:01

I'm a big fan of the earlier BB stuff but can't stand the newer , went to see him a few years ago and it was nearly all his later songs

Bites tongue.
