Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

It may be the right time to make it illegal to change sex, with heavy fines and jail times for those who attempt a gender fraud and anyone aiding and abetting. It seems to be the way the USA is heading. Putin is ahead of the curve on it.

That would mean that ‘acceptance without exception’ is a lie. Another lie exposed on a foundation built on dishonesty and science free premises.

No person in the world can change sex. No one.

I doubt that any lobby group wishes to expose their followers to constant court cases. I am surprised you mention it.

Plasmodesmata · 15/08/2023 11:21

Can you make it illegal to do something impossible?

What do you mean by 'gender fraud'?

True, probably better stated sex fraud. Impersonation of another sex, or womanface. Would also pick up the drag performers as some USA states are doing.

How do you define impersonation of another sex?

orangegato · 15/08/2023 11:39

At least me and trans people have one thing in common, hating that virtue signally bullshit Costa ad.

I’m taking a flask from now on, Costa can get to fuck.

RealityFan · 15/08/2023 12:03

A propaganda piece so brazen that even Penis "News" would blush in printing it.

Beowulfa · 15/08/2023 12:08

The Standard published a piece on genderwoo madness by Suzanne Moore the other week, so interesting they've now gone down this road.

ApocalipstickNow · 15/08/2023 12:09

Ah Mishy I notice you haven’t had the guts to post on the If you're GC, what should trans people actually do? thread as everyone is being so darn reasonable even you would struggle to twist it all.

It's like a heavy fine for not picking up your rocking horse's shit.

As has been pointed out, it is impossible to change sex. Making illegal an attempt to look like a stereotype of the sex one isn't would be very heavy handed; I don't want to see authoritarianism like that. Perhaps we could just stick to sexual abuse being illegal, and leave things like blackface and womanface to societal disapproval. There is a balance to be struck over boundaries; it should be possible to challenge them, but cautiously and definitely not with #nodebate or just on the basis of #bekind. Above all, women (and indeed men) should be able to set their own boundaries, not have them set by a self righteous group of Queer Theorists who refuse to discuss their ideas with anyone who sees how problematic they are.

Froodwithatowel · 15/08/2023 12:15

Always all the drama.

Male people can identify as TW if they choose to, with varying degrees of what that means to them and how far they wish to change their bodies, and that's great. No one is in any way suggesting restricting this.

But no one changes sex. And the polite fiction out of kindness has meant that a large number of male people have taken it far further than is sensible or compatible with women's rights. So there is no point wailing that it's mean to require that those people respect that other people have rights and realities too.

Male people cannot be women. They cannot be in all women's spaces at will, and they are going to have to cope with the idea that women's equality, access to society, right to meet as a group and right to be homosexual is not going to come second to a male person's wishes on those women conforming and performing a belief they do not hold in a male person's identity.

Some women will, and that's great, they can join mixed sex groups and third spaces and that's all lovely. And some women won't, and male people of all identities are going to have to get over that. Women's lives do not revolve around male people. It is not in any way reasonable to expect that they should.

I think that mishy is attempting sarcasm or something and is failing.

ApocalipstickNow · 15/08/2023 12:40

Yeah but Mishy wants everyone to think that’s how we think and feel.

Justme56 · 15/08/2023 12:48

I’m afraid to ask but how have so many non-binary people been affected by discrimination on public transport?

Redshoeblueshoe · 15/08/2023 12:50

I think Mishy is looking for responses to tweet.

Nah, they're just showing their true transphobic colours at last.

The MRAs can never keep the act going for long.

Ticket inspectors operate in the binary of valid ticket/no valid ticket so that must be horribly othering.

Absolute. Make it illegal to turn invisible too, and to age backwards like Benjamin Button.

No idea what you mean by gender fraud. Your gender is the word you answer when asked what your gender is.

annoucements

I believe it is no longer acceptable to make an announcement that would be along the lines of 'good morning ladies and gentlemen'. Because this will trigger someone.

Justme56 · 15/08/2023 12:48

It says they 'experienced transphobia on public transport'. As we know, everything is transphobic, so that's not really surprising.

MenopauseSucks · 15/08/2023 14:43

During the last month that I've either been on a train or the Tube, the announcers most definitely used 'ladies & gentleman'.

As I'd read the phrase was to be removed from transport vernacular, I'm always keeping an ear out for it!
