'Ms Cherry has been causing fear and alarm throughout Scotland and the UK for several years now by saying, with irresponsible certainty, that women can’t have penises.
She insists on telling everyone that she is a lesbian. And worse: that lesbians should reserve the right not to have concupiscence with men whom they don’t consider to be women.
She is absolutely remorseless in suggesting that women’s toilets should only be used by women. And that women are entitled to privacy in intimate settings. '

I do sincerely hope the Stand offer counselling to their staff

TO Edinburgh for our first outing at the Festival Fringe: an event featuring Joanna Cherry in conversation with our old friend and colleague, Graham…

It seems that quite a few of the journos who attended are rather clear in the feelings of incredulity of the protests and the attempts to shut down the event. I have read two now that claim to be mates of the presenter and who have found the situation ridiculous and indicated so in their articles. I have not noticed either journalist engaging previously (but I could be very wrong there).

Yet we are constantly told that the majority of the UK population is supportive of trans rights with the implication that they would also be supportive of these types of actions from extreme activists.

Nothing to add except that

  • it's been a fair while since I've seen concupiscence used
  • at some point, I hope that certain parties recover from these destructive fervours, reflect on their actions and cross the golden bridge to reestablish commonsense and good safeguarding practices.

Pathological gaslighting . Instead of adding new guest Rupert Reads on 26th below Eddie Reader on 25th, the Stand plasters over Joanna Cherry’s sell out gig on 10th as if it never happened. Exactly what is it about feminism that scares them so much?

I particularly liked the phrase 'trumpet of the matriarchy'.

Heh, very good. Presumably a riff on The First Blast of the Trumpet Against the Monstruous Regiment of Women, written by that well-known Scotsman.

It's so hilariously lame and petty Grin

Yes, it is quite amusing to see them desperately trying to passive-aggressively memory-hole the event without getting threatened with court, again.

Counselling by trumpet? Now there's a thought.

Is the option being counselled by a barbed wire enrobed baseball bat?

If so, present and attentive with ear plugs.

Is this satire? Hard to believe this is serious.

Yes. It is clearly satire.

Absolutely brilliant article 😂

Ms Cherry is notorious for speaking her mind and using actual facts in a belligerent, aggressive and aggressively belligerent way.

The style reminds me of the David Tennant narration in W1A and Twenty Twelve Grin

…saying, with irresponsible certainty, that women can’t have penises.

I very much like the concept of irresponsible certainty.

Is IrresponsiblyCertainAboutSexualDimorphism too lengthy for a username?

It would seem not. 😁

I walked past that on Saturday and looked for the Joanna Cherry slot. Erased.

It's bloody awful behaviour.

PonyPatter44 · 14/08/2023 23:07

I might change my name to IrresponsibleTrumpet.

drhf · 14/08/2023 23:26

Good catch on the W1A influence.

And with a dash of Titania “All I want is peace, justice and the systematic execution of my political opponents” McGrath.

Feministwoman · 15/08/2023 00:28

I can see a Famous Artist Birdy Rose tee shirt coming up

Feministwoman · 15/08/2023 00:30

"I'm a Trumpet of the Matriarchy"

IcakethereforeIam · 15/08/2023 00:39

Totally read that as 'strumpet of the matriarchy'. I'd wear that on a t shirt!

Abhannmor · 15/08/2023 08:10

Kevin McKenna certainly has a way with words. Perhaps Mhairi Black could have a new career as a Trumpet Counsellor for those affected by Joanna's cruel insistence on reality.

Whenever I see Titania McGrath, I think of Andromeda:

Tyr Anasazi : What would you like, Jaguar?
Charlemagne Bolivar : The usual. Hundreds of grandchildren, utter domination of known space and the pleasure of hearing that all of my enemies have died in terrible, highly improbable accidents that cannot be connected to me. And you?

stealtheatingtunnocks · 15/08/2023 15:50

I get a lot of Christine Keeler “well, he would say that, wouldn’t he?”

AmadeustheAlpaca · 15/08/2023 18:33

It’s an amusing piece of satire though it feels to me that the writer might end with a sore backside from too much fence sitting. It he gets bullied for being sarcastic about the Stand attitudes he can always say that he’s written nothing that doesn’t support them. He can also state to those with alternative viewpoints that he’s written a sharp piece of satire.
I’d have liked it better if he’d been more upfront about his real views and not hidden behind his satirical article. Looks a bit cowardly to me.
Hope someone in Edinburgh now writes a witty article criticizing Leith Arches and the cancelling of Graham Linehan.

I don't think I've ever been called a strumpet. I'm now slightly aggrieved.

I've been called a Jezebel. Or a Scarlet Woman. Look, my friend and I remember one of us being called one name and one being called the other, but not which way round. It was the 70's, what can I say.

Sorry, that was a merail.

Boiledbeetle · 15/08/2023 18:56

@Chersfrozenface

YOU ARE A STRUMPET
