fwiw Lewis was arguably, maybe even probably, the greatest Olympian ever, and still in his career earned less from endorsements than Dylan Mulvaney looks set to do, the clearest possible example of how far Madison has lurched leftwards, presumably in part to atone for past sins. Lewis was one of the best athletes ever and should have been endorsing everything. Mulvaney is a talentless fool who shouldn't be endorsing anything, ever.

My nan and Daley Thompson's mum were best friends! They met in Holloway 😳 His mum was a legend around Ladbroke Grove and a real character. I remember seeing framed pictures of him all over the house but never met him unfortunately.

God I don’t remember that T-shirt 😱shockingly homophobic and I hope he’s thoroughly ashamed of himself now. I just had to look up the background to it - seems Carl Lewis was accused of being gay because he was softly spoken and had a stylish haircut?! Thank fuck things have moved on but undoubtedly homophobia still exists in lots of sport. I’d hope that Daley Thompson would apologise for this if he was questioned about it now.

Daley was such a magnificent athlete and competitor, definitely one of my sporting heroes. At his peak, his rivals knew they couldn’t touch him before the competition even started. I remember as a kid sitting up late into the night watching him win gold at the LA Olympics in 84. The result was never in doubt.

Daley rubbed a lot of people up the wrong way, because British athletes were supposed to be fallible, self-effacing, humble & modest, but he was perceived as being cocky & arrogant. Largely because he was cocky & arrogant. He knew he was the best and behaved accordingly. It’s great that he is now prepared to publicly support women’s sport, and it’s great that women are now winning the argument.
