Loads of news outlets reporting this story :

Bud Light boycott over trans influencer Dylan Mulvaney hits beer giant's sales - BBC News

BBC being its usual self and calling him 'Ms' 🙄

But good that companies might start learning the financial cost of promoting this insulting nonsense.

Bud Light

Bud Light boycott over trans influencer Dylan Mulvaney hits beer giant's sales

But performance by parent company AB/Inbev holds up better than expected.

Ban ?

Who's banned it and why ?

ban, cancelled, boycott call it what you will.
But I'm not surprised that is all you took from my post.

HermioneWeasley · 03/08/2023 22:05

I don’t mind then using someone trans, it’s the fact they had a special can made to commemorate 365 days of “girlhood” for an adult male who does an insulting and grotesque parody of womanhood. Dylan is a repellant misogynist

meowgender · 03/08/2023 22:41

It bothers me that people call him a woman, and endorse his misogyny. His face being printed on a beer can is not the issue.

MillWood85 · 03/08/2023 22:42

I've always loved Kate Spade bags until they paid DM to film himself running round a store, screaming in delight at the pretty pink dresses and white bags because he's a laydee.

Yep, that's exactly how we women act when we go into a handbag store to choose our bags Hmm I've sold my bags on and won't ever buy another knowing what they think of their customer base.

Louloulouenna · 04/08/2023 08:07

Couldn’t agree more with the comments on DM and his vile mockery of womanhood. I just wish a boycott of a female oriented product could achieve as high a profile and big an impact as the Bud Light boycott has.

As in no impact such that the company did better than projected based on the downtrend that’s been going on since 2008.

Three words with different meanings cannot be used interchangeably and doing so is dishonest and lazy.

UncertainSmiler · 04/08/2023 08:48

He’s not been involved with anything I buy anyway.
I don’t drink pissy American beer.

Louloulouenna · 04/08/2023 09:04

@ReleasetheCrackHen An almost quarter drop in sales of Bud Light over a matter of weeks is not the continuation of a downward trend. You don’t need to be a mathematician to calculate that a “downward trend” of that magnitude would be very short indeed.

The graph is actually labelled though…did you not click on it to enlarge it?

The axes definitely aren't labelled.

ReleasetheCrackHen · 03/08/2023 21:45

No, it’s stock value, as in what really matters and it reflects the (already expected) drop in stock value showing that the boycott is having no effect on the company’s bottom line or financials whatsoever.

Also the sales numbers in the news don’t reflect all the sales- ie the sale of draft Bud Light to stadiums, restaurants and pubs. That’s part of the spin.

Stock price is not what people are discussing. The company makes lots of drinks in lots of different regions, some of which have done better than expected.

The point is that the beer DM advertised sold much worse as a result. The decline was significant enough that other industry leaders have commented on it and two executives were sacked for it.

There has also been a cut to profits caused by having to spend much more on advertising to compensate for the drop.

mrshoho · 04/08/2023 09:28

FrippEnos · 03/08/2023 20:23

IMO the ban on Bud light is more because Budweiser decided to let the person in charge of the advertising bad mouth their main customer base, which is never a good idea.

Yes this. Completely dismissed the majority and basically said we don't want you as a customer if you have a problem with DM and our new image. Well that is exactly what they got. Isn't it great that we can vote with our £££'s. Venue locations may still be in contract for these brands but always open for change at renewal.

I don't agree either that it's just far right extremists boycotting.

Louloulouenna · 04/08/2023 09:30

The share price of Anheuser Busch is utterly irrelevant in this discussion as would the share price of Coca Cola in relation to the current publicity regarding Costa Coffee.

And yet bud had been banned from various concerts, cancelled by people and boycotted by others.

However you view the wording it means a loss of revenue for the company.

Beowulfa · 04/08/2023 10:34

Regardless of the technical argument about sales data, there is a BBC article on the perceived effect. Tough gig for whoever has to shift this brand association now.

I don't care if a trans person is advertising stuff. I do care if they are actively and shamelessly taking the piss out of me.

Bud has not been 'banned' from concerts. Concession holders have stopped selling that product. It's like saying that lemonade or IrnBru has been banned.

A product can't be cancelled. Only people can be cancelled.

I wouldn't weep if Budweiser never sold another ounce.

Louloulouenna · 04/08/2023 11:30

And sorry to be pedantic but the argument about sales data is not “technical”, the near 25% drop in Bud Light sales following the DM tie up is a matter of record. Facts matter.

Then other than being pedantic, why are you even arguing the point?

Dragonwindow · 04/08/2023 12:46

I absolutely abhorred that DM advert for Nike, prancing around in some hideous parody of Jane Fonda (when there exist thousands of talented female athletes who didn't get this contract).

But I think it's perfectly reasonable for anyone to advertise low alcohol beer, whatever their genitals, whether they're wearing a dress or not 🤷‍♀️ The tiny number of Americans making a big deal about boycotting Bud are doing so because they can't bear the thought of a man in a dress, not because they give a shiny shit about women's rights.

nauticant · 04/08/2023 12:46

It's about results and market share. It's about comparative performance in the US market and elsewhere:

nauticant · 04/08/2023 12:51

I don't agree either that it's just far right extremists boycotting.

There was the call to boycott Goya Beans after there CEO spoke favourably about Trump.

https://news.cornell.edu/stories/2022/08/social-media-boycott-goya-did-not-harm-sales

There seems to be a contrast between Goya and A-B, where in the case of the former there was a short-term increase in sales and then a quick return to previous performance.

Where is your evidence for this assertion?

Yes, but it wasn’t all sales of Bud Light, it’s only retail sales direct to consumers so cans and bottles of beer…and furthermore sales of Bud Light have been decreasing with periodic steep plunges just like this since 2008…Bud Light sales dropped from 42.4 million barrels in 2008 to 25.7 million barrels by 2020…..so the 2023 slump is nothing new.

See here in 2022 the long downtrend was widely discussed

It's based mostly on the fact that the Nike advert was much worse, and certainly more demeaning towards women, but I haven't seen any tiktoks of angry Americans shooting sports bras 🤷‍♀️

That's your opinion, as well as a logical fallacy (whatabouttery). Opinions are not evidence.

So, you have no evidence to support your assertion.
