Nancy Kelly (Stonewall) responds to Labour's u-turn on self ID

Quite an interesting tweet from Nancy Kelly, as she is probably privy to information that has informed Labour's change of heart.
She blames the Labour Party's attitude to Northerners it seems they view as particularly against gender ideology and Labour hopes to win them back.
She conveniently merges homophobia with the backlash against trans ideology, easier to find an open homophobe in London than in my hometown of Grimsby -that may be true I don't know, but I bet a lot of women in Grimsby are against transing children and for women only sport etc. The law changes were nothing to do with the LGB and all about the T.

Her quote in full:

The political class in Westminster typically holds hard to the belief that homophobic, biphobic and transphobic policy and dogwhistles win them votes in the North.
It's a belief based on class prejudice, not data. London is *dramatically more religious than other parts of the UK, and this makes a huge difference in attitudes to LGBTQ+ communities. Easier to find an open homophobe in London than in my hometown of Grimsby these days.

Amongst the politicos who understand this, a more depressing set of factors are at play, ones which do implicate the electorate. LGBTQ+ rights are a "low salience" issue for the vast majority of voters.

Which is to say, most voters who think that both Labour and Conservative policies and rhetoric on trans rights are wrong, will still vote Lab/Con because of other issues they view as much more important. This behaviour frees up parties to take the risk of pandering to the minority of voters for whom trans rights are very high salience. Transphobic voters, and voters radicalised by the endless firehouse of transphobic UK press.
And that's on all of us. If we don't make it crystal clear that inclusive policies upholding international human rights standards are *essential to getting our vote, then political parties are free to flirt with or openly adopt the politics of exclusion and "culture wars". So (emoji -what can you do?)

Maybe we could name it after those characterful stone walls you find there...

Nancy Kelley literally IS the political class. She’s paid to be a professional lobbyist as part of running her gigantic household name, government advising multimillion megacharity.

It’s her full time job, influencing both government and political parties’ policies. What on earth is she talking about as if she is some Daily Mail sad faced little outsider peeping in to a faraway powerful world that she’s never going to be part of? What a weird and revealing fantasy version of herself she’s promoting. Is she trying to distance herself from her own failures?

Kelley will have had innumerable and routine lunches, dinners and cosy work meetings around tables with PMs, Ministers, leaders of all the parties for years and years now. These household names will all be on first name terms with her and have each others’ mobile numbers. Same all the key broadsheet and broadcast journalists in national media. That’s exactly what the political class is. People like Nancy Kelley.

More importantly, how dare she complain in that racist way about the religiosity of Londoners and smear them as homophobes? Outrageous.

If she’s complaining about homophobia in the UK then that is a direct consequence of her own failings as a leader on her charity’s legal mission around promoting equality, Stonewall, so this is just DARVO. Shameless. She had one job, etc.

I'd say us Northerners are less likely to fall for bullshit but that's probably regionalist. 😂

"Nancy can only ever identify as northern, anyhow, coming from that funny place south of the Humber." This is a good point @PickAChew

Nancy is so bloody desperate

Of course we have no way of knowing if homophobia is worsening or not.

Homophobic hate crimes are now lumped in with transphobic hate crimes and as far as I now there's no way to differentiate.

So a Twitter misgendering is going to be recorded the same as a gay bashing.

AlisonDonut · 01/08/2023 08:26

She is so right.

One CEO actually called lesbians 'sexual racists' if they didn't accept males who say they are lesbians in their dating pool.

If she wants to get behind getting rid of these sorts of people, I'm right behind her.

Oh...hang on...

It's also not been helped by Stonewall and the lunatic fringe of the TQ+ political movement declaring open season on homosexual people who won't nicely shift 'homosexual' to mean 'actually will be bisexual/do straight sex rather than upset someone's identity' and making it fashionable to be loudly, aggressively derisive, with lots of violent sexual ideation, about it being righteous to punish and beat those who aren't Like You.

Stonewall et al LED THIS.

They have normalised, rationalised and excused 'going out to fuck up some terfs' and barbed wire baseball bats for the beating of lesbians who won't do male people who identify with feminine genders. They have set out to make homosexuality unacceptable and violent dehumanising of the non compliant an every day thing.

So they can bloody own it. The world was a much better place to be gay in before the rainbow glitter jackboots stomped all over it.

Nancy, you idiot. That was your job. Get back to Grimsby and do the work if it bothers you so much

This made me laugh! So right!

RedToothBrush · 01/08/2023 16:36

Well yes. That's where Stonewall has it's HQ isn't it? They are pretty open about being institutionally homophobic. They tweet about it often enough.

That's coz you moved to London, Nance

Hm. So which religions is she claiming are homophobic? It would be good if she would spell it out.

Is Nance ‘dogwhistling’ Islamophobia? 🙀
