Death threats against women's officer at Aberystwyth Students' Union

Seems a massive scandal has been going on Aberystwyth. It seems that the Women's Officer was targeted by the local Pride group and received death threats and was forced out.

Judging from Charlotte's twitter feed she doesn't even seem to be that gender critical. She just seems like a lefty women who knows her own mind.

The University sector in Wales is full of attacks on free speech. The Feminist society at Swansea University was closed down and there was a large protest at Swansea University over a Gender Critical meeting.

Cardiff University academics were targeted over free thinking more threats of violence:

If past events are anything to go by this may be ignored and swept under the carpet. The media seldom mention things in Wales. Obviously the Senedd don't care. However the clock is ticking, people are organising, reality inevitably bites.

MrsDanversGlidesAgain

Some of them were death threats - or threats that I contract a certain condition and die. In fact I think one was a rape threat too.

IF any of that happened it's dreadful and I condemn it easily and without reservation

Chinny tho.

Felix125 · 31/07/2023 13:19

Loads of threats, Felix.
Pull the other one, it's got bells on it.

So you are calling me a liar and denying that this has happened?
So I effectively am a victim of a criminal act and you can just dismiss it.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 31/07/2023 13:19

So if one student throws a paper plane at another student in a lesson - the educational institution can deal with this without the police getting involved and having to crime it.

You seem to be confused about the difference between paper plane throwing and rape/death threats.

A mumsnet poster sent you a private message threatening to rape you?

heartofglass23 · 31/07/2023 13:20

Horrific.

The complaint has been investigated by the police and the university and if Charlotte is still unhappy she could have done what was suggested earlier and asked the police to review the matter.

If after all that and she still doesn't feel the complaint was properly dealt with then yes she has every right to broadcast the details on any medium she chooses but naming a vulnerable adult on Twitter is not a reasonable approach.

Incidentally she hasn't shown any receipts for the 'death threats' just one I assume is the 'rape threat

The statement says the complaint wasn't investigated by the police, they just said it was for the university to deal with.

BezMills · 31/07/2023 13:20

Yes Felix. I do not believe you.

Not at all - it covers all criminal acts which fall into their policy.
Assaults, mal comms, threats etc etc

No - it was in the thread. A comment along the lines of "I hope that happens to you one day" Sort of a - see how you like it - comment

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 31/07/2023 13:23

Can we ignore the derail attempts?

YetAnotherSpartacus · 31/07/2023 13:23

The guidance is for schools and colleges and not universities.

Do you understand how insulting it is to have a rape/death threat conflated with paper plane throwing?

SirVixofVixHall · 31/07/2023 13:28

RebelliousCow · 31/07/2023 10:08

Welsh nationalist sentiment has always been a bit darker and potentially more violent than in Scotland. Do you remember the campaign of burning down second homes and homes belonging to English people?

My sense that those countries with a colonial past, tied to Britain, who wish to show how independent and progressive they are are some of the most embracing of trans ideology. It represents a rebellion against the establishment.

The homes burnt were all holiday homes.

I think the underdog feeling in Wales means that we feel sympathy and solidarity with marginalised people, and that this has played out badly in terms of trans issues. We also have a leader who made appalling comments to a Senedd member speaking up on this, calling her “shrill” .
The “most marginalised of all people” rhetoric has worked well for transactivists in Wales, certainly amongst Welsh Labour.

The guidance is for educational institutions - or follows on from that.

Its to show that it covers a wide variety of crimes - such as assaults, mal comms, threats etc etc. And how/why educational institutions deal with them in-house as opposed to getting the police involved.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 31/07/2023 13:39

Who is this for?
This advice is for school and college staff with responsibility
for behaviour management, including designated safeguarding
leads (DSLs), their deputies, head teachers and senior
leadership teams in schools and colleges in England.

It refers to Child Centred Policing.

It is not relevant for adults at Universities.

I know.

I work in one.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 31/07/2023 13:40

And tell me again how throwing a paper plane is the same as a rape/death threat.

This might be all the rage in the wine bars and organic fair trade coffee bars of Cardiff, but try the blue haired anti-woman bull in the valleys and you won't get the time of day.

Unfortunately this isn't true at all. I spent a long time living in Wales and have good friends in places like Rhydyfelin, Pill, Mountain Ash, Treorchy etc. They are all fully paid up TWAW. I know several (in my view) lesbians from the Valleys, all of whom have suffered a load of shit at the hands of men all their lives, who are all now identifying as trans men.

It blows my mind that this is the case, but it is.

Staggering.

I don't have many gay friends in Wales but the farming community and the ex mining families I do know wouldn't give this the time of day.

Bore off!

  1. this entire thread is not about you
  2. it seems like you’re in the habit of minimizing rape and credible threats. So this thread is also not for you.

Go derail elsewhere.

Thingybob · 31/07/2023 13:48

I've cropped so as not to highlight the persons name so hopefully you can see them.

I think the message is the "implied rape threat" that required Charlotte to "move out of her flat immediately". It was apparently sent in response to Charlotte making a joke about eating Nando's when the government had the Eat out to help out scheme.

The statement is from the Twitter page of the accused.

I am sure this isn't the whole story but this is what I found when I went looking and it left me feeling rather sorry for the ND young man.

The above is in response to OldCrone

BezMills · 31/07/2023 13:51

Any death threat or threat of serious violence should be treated seriously by the police and the CPS.

This doesn't seem to be what is described in the second paragraph of the statement.

Thingybob · 31/07/2023 13:56

It was linked to the statement by Charlotte as though it is proof of some wrong doing

DewinDwl · 31/07/2023 14:04

I am with MrsDanversGlidesAgain

Can someone post screenshots of the tweets with the threats in question? I have now lost all access to twitter. TIA

YetAnotherSpartacus · 31/07/2023 14:06

I've also lost access but according to the original statement, a lot of the threats were made externally to Twitter.

Why wouldn't it be? It's grim sexual harassment.
