What exactly has Andrew Neil done?

AN is acting churlish because women are not falling over themselves in gratitude for his support for women's rights in the face of gender self id.

Can someone tell me exactly what he's done bar send out a few tweets? Which are of course most welcome. But he's not exactly in Maya/Allison/Jo/Rosie/JK/Raquel/LGB Alliance territory, is he?

'If this analysis proves broadly right, we’re living through a medical and societal scandal of massive proportions. '

No shit.

WarriorN · 01/08/2023 20:48

Sherlock.

WarriorN · 01/08/2023 20:49

Hoping this is a start of a turning point for many who've been vilified and lost careers.

Any truth to the rumour Bobby Gillespie is the new head of Stonewall?

Thanks for posting. I wonder which cabinet member texted him?

"A Cabinet minster texted me: ‘Welcome to the dark side, Andrew.’ They weren’t wrong. I was immediately denounced as a ‘terf’."

Datun · 01/08/2023 21:07

He's powerful, smart, articulate and, most importantly, doesn't give a shit.

And now he's furious.

Good. 😎

1stWorldProblems · 01/08/2023 21:07

Such a gracious & thoughtful article. I found myself moved by it's wholehearted thanks & acknowledgment of those who've gone before him. A very useful ally indeed.

I replied that it was usually wiser to welcome converts to the cause rather than upbraid them. But I now see that was ungracious. Women like Janice (and it’s nearly always been women) who’ve been in the vanguard of exposing the horrors of this scandal have experienced the vilest abuse — and received precious little support or comfort from the rest of us.

The whole piece is superb, but I'm so very glad to see him acknowledge this. Thank you Andrew.

As am I. An excellent piece.

I think we can expect a proper good programme about all this from AN in the near future. Yay!

nonman · 01/08/2023 21:34

He had a pop at the Gaurdian, I enjoyed that.

SunnyEgg · 01/08/2023 21:34

I look forward to politicians under the spotlight

Anxioys · 01/08/2023 21:35

The Guardian deserve all the lumps coming to them.

It is now a crap rag written for computer liberals.

Yours, Champagne Socialist

BonfireLady · 01/08/2023 21:38

Sadly the link to the article just hangs for me, but the excerpts and comments above sound very encouraging indeed!

(I also like that he took a swipe at the Guardian. I bet Hadley Freeman does too)

Mollyollydolly · 01/08/2023 21:59

I actually found that article quite moving .. I don't GAF what his politics are .. he's sharp as a tack and to see someone write with such grace and humility is rare. That's what I want to see from Keir fecking Starmer and many others.

ACatCalledPushka · 01/08/2023 22:11

Great article!

Whatthechicken · 01/08/2023 22:39

Great article. I love that he’s acknowledged his ignorance and those that have been fighting for so long and suffered the consequences. He’s hugely influential and also a bloke (unfortunately we know they do get listened to more). Tonight, it feels like the fight has evened up a bit.

Whatthechicken · 01/08/2023 22:59

Probably jumping the gun here, but does anyone think that maybe there is something else going on in the background that we are yet unaware of? People seem to be slowly backing away from it all, the resignations of NK and SG, the slight change in rhetoric from the Labour Party, influential journos catching on…and I’ve not seen much from LOJ recently?

BettyFilous · 01/08/2023 23:01

Just read AN’s article out to DH. We both agree it’s a barnstorming article. He’s clearly spent the last few days educating himself, with predictable results. ⛅️☀️🏔️

I listened to an interesting Transparency podcast over breakfast this morning, not a show I normally listen to. “Shannon Boschy is a Canadian financial planner whose unexpected entry into the trans ideological crisis has led to some valuable insights and an exciting AI project that will provide reliable data about patterns of social influence on young people.” https://podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/transparency/id1583333120?i=1000575301741 Boschy likened it to the subprime bubble that precipitated the 2008 financial crash. The machine learning/AI project he’s involved in sounds really promising in showing how this movement roared into being on social media. He was very well informed and mentioned the Denton’s document. It was recorded last August and the two (trans?) hosts predicted this “would all be over in 2-5 years”.

Andrew Neil’s sudden crash to Earth and his resulting article is an interesting development.

An ex BBC colleague who's never said a thing on this has just retweeted the Andrew Neil article. It's her first toe in the water, I know she has two daughters who are totally on the other side of the argument, who think JK Rowling is an evil terf. We've reached a tipping point, I don't think we're anywhere near winning, but it might be the end of the beginning. 'Nothing happens, and nothing happens, and then everything happens.' Voices like Neil are massively important.

I suppose law is being used and finding in the favour of those who've long argued for women's rights. Medical litigation is increasing.

That podcast sounds interesting.

The thing about the power of sm is that a) it could be seen as a slow burn social democracy - gradually ideas spread and individuals choose their pov. B) more professionals and adults use SM now; so online ideas are gaining real world professional (research , evidence) analysis so that C) law, policy and actual democracy is starting to be impacted.

MidsomerMurmurs · 02/08/2023 06:28

Neil’s article in the Mail is indeed very good. But he used the wrong pronouns for Thomas and managed to avoid using any pronouns at all for rapist-gender Bryson.

I wonder if anyone has pointed this out to him? I thought IPSO had recently shifted its guidance a little on this.

EdithStourton · 02/08/2023 08:12

Excellent article. Coherent, concise and gracious.

borntobequiet · 02/08/2023 08:14

Yes I agree. Great article.

SunnyEgg · 02/08/2023 08:21

I hope he’s getting good feedback online
