"This is heartbreaking. It is barbaric. What have we become?"

Neil listening to Chloe Cole's evidence to Congress:
https://twitter.com/afneil/status/1685029046915063808

It is easy for us to be angry/sad at his ignorance when so many have suffered for telling the truth for years. Remember though Neil was one of the countless millions who either had no idea what is going on or sidelined it as just one of those "feminist" things. Many of us peaked the same way. He gets that he screwed up :

"I understand that. But we allowed it to happen. In my case because I had no idea such things could be done to young, vulnerable people. I feel ashamed and angry. It must be stopped."
https://twitter.com/afneil/status/1685032706139197440

What matters now is what he and others are going to do to put things right:

Gavin Barrie "Andrew Neil peaking is a pretty big deal … because of his connections and his public profile.
There isn’t an influential journalist or editor he doesn’t know personally.
He knows all the TV producers and editorial staff.
He’ll push to haul this into the sunlight."

This will become the biggest medical scandal of the 21st Century…At it’s heart Big Pharma along with unelected groups of Activists such as
@stonewalluk & others in UK 🇬🇧 ! These kids aren’t old enough to smoke, drink or vote yet they’re pushed into surgery & a lifetime of drugs!

Andrew Neil is chairman of the Spectator, which has covered this issue for some time. It seems he hasn't been reading the articles in his own publication.

It's exasperating. How can he not have known this is going on?

But better late than never, I guess.

teawamutu · 29/07/2023 11:18

As I've said many times before, usually to men asking where the feminists were on this: just because you weren't fucking listening doesn't mean we weren't fucking speaking.

But, better late than never.

Yes I don't understand how he wasn't aware either. At least he has grasped how shocking and scandalous this is now I guess.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 29/07/2023 11:23

Cynically, I suspect he was aware. It's just now that he is certain which way the wind is blowing he can publicly state his views.

Woman2023 · 29/07/2023 11:38

I agree, he's chosen the better option to say "wow, look at this scandal I've just noticed" instead of "oh, I guess this thing I've been ignoring actually needs addressing".

Definitely!

MrsOvertonsWindow · 29/07/2023 12:14

Can't wait to see him using his ferocious interviewing skills on the clueless politicians who've presided over all this.

BonfireLady · 29/07/2023 12:16

Watching this with a great deal of interest.

I agree that Andrew Neil has the potential to make this very public across all media.

TBH I don't mind whether he knew before but didn't feel he could "safely" add his voice. I and many others could empathise with that - I'm not a public figure but everything I'm doing to help my autistic gender-questioning daughter and others like is anonymous. Also, I've found myself contributing on this board to other aspects of gender identity clarity that relate more indirectly to my daughter (I'm currently pretty active on two other threads). All of it helps to reach my personal goal to be an active contributior to stop this medical scandal. Too many kids have already been harmed and my own daughter is still far too close to the dangers of it all for my own comfort. I'm still peddling hard on the home front too.

Whatever his motivation, he has the power to do a lot of good here.
Please keep shouting this out Andrew 💪💪💪

Alcemeg · 29/07/2023 12:08

Definitely!

It is like with Streeting. As soon as powerful men start saying obvious things it is a real indication change is coming. Because believe it or not men don't love having to admit that a bunch of women were right about things they ignored for ages.

Whether Neil is being cynical, or was just in a sexist bubble, we can't know for sure. Either way the key thing is our side is gathering strength.

Get ready for a wave of more men to either say I was on your side all along, or less likely, to actually admit some fault. We really need more lefty men doing it though.

Andrew Neil Vs Angela Rayner and Lisa Nandy BRING IT ON!

Glinner has been doing it for a long time now. Albeit in a style that doesn't always land well with everyone that comes across his words. But regardless of style, his voice has been important.

I'm a lurker @BonfireLady and have seen your posts. I'm in a similar situation with 14yr old DD and your posts have helped strengthen my resolve, thank you.

It does feel that the tide is slowly turning but when it affects your family so acutely it's hard not to feel frustrated, and worried.

😘😘😘
I had to take a break from MN for about a month as my anger (at the world for letting this happen) was taking its toll on me. It's something I'll be watching out for as this continues to play out as a broken me is no good to anyone. This is a marathon not a sprint. To know that my posts have helped you directly means a lot. Thank you.

Sending strength and hugs to you and your daughter (she's the same age as mine).

Knowing that someone with the reach of Andrew Neil is adding his powerful voice makes it feel like we're really starting to make inroads to help our daughters and the many thousands like them.

I saw the thread title and thought, oh AN's on the case? standby for liftoff.

Brk · 29/07/2023 13:03

Where were the journalists in all this??!

Andrew Neil has huge power and it was literally his job to notice huge scandals. For years in my free time I’ve been writing to MPs and schools, supporting groups like Transgender Trend, donating money to LGB Alliance, quietly lobbying on sites like Mumsnet… And Andrew Neil has only just noticed the harm being done?!

HOW DID JOURNALISTS MISS THIS?!

NicCageisnotNickCave · 29/07/2023 13:23

Sometimes people only start to pay attention to the public debate when it unexpectedly comes to their own doorstep.

Andrew Neil doesn’t have any children of his own but according to wikipedia he has over a dozen godchildren.

Whatever made him take the time to listen to Chloe Cole, I’m glad he did.

DevilinaCardigan · 29/07/2023 13:23

(Sexist) men don’t listen to women.

But I’m glad AN has finally woken up. I don’t particularly like him, but I think he’ll ask a lot of difficult questions and raise the issue.

Twitter has changed.

America is broadcasting children who are harmed to the world now.

This is the escalation everyone was working for.

It's got to keep getting bigger and bigger.

Andrew Neil Vs Angela Rayner and Lisa Nandy BRING IT ON!

Or maybe Andrew Neil v someone from the party that's actually been in power while this has been happening?

RoyalCorgi · 29/07/2023 14:31

Agree with everybody who said that women were speaking but the men weren't listening.

Also agree with Hepwo about Twitter changing - Twitter under the previous administration either banned gender critical women altogether or found ways of hiding their tweets. If you weren't really paying attention, then I suppose it's possible you could miss all this. I have quite a lot of friends who are pretty clueless about what's happening - though that's not the same as someone in Andrew Neil's position being unaware. How could you not notice the Hannah Barnes book, for example?

Still, as Jesus said: "There will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who need no repentance." So let's hope that Neil uses his power and influence to bring this to a wider public.

Yes.

Although as ever, this whole situation is such a dark, sordid and horrific shitshow that it's never a good feeling to 'win'. It just means the catalogue of injustices may come to light and with any luck, come to a halt.

In any case, it can't happen soon enough.

Bring it, Andrew.

SunnyEgg · 29/07/2023 14:45

Agree women have been speaking up for ages

But anyway welcome to join, keep going

Rudderneck · 29/07/2023 14:45

I would not underestimate how much the assumption that real abuse in the medical field would not happen in broad daylight can blind people.

I think even if you are reading something like The Spectator every day, if you really think, there must be some good medical thinking behind this or it wouldn't be allowed/so ubiquitous, no one would let people totally experiment on kids with known dangerous drugs, no one would be cutting the breasts off teen girls routinely - it is almost like you are reading a different article.

And for a lot of people that is a sticking point. The idea that could happen seems as absurd, impossible, as the idea that hospitals might openly remove people's eyes to sell to the rich, or conduct weird Frankenstein experiments.

Many also have zero idea about AGP, and the idea seems so alien they can't imagine it.

The media has been making it difficult for people to know this stuff. And again, many people assume, surely if this was going on it would be front and center in the major papers? Even the left leaning ones?

It's why when people peak, it's so fast and hard. But it involves destroying a lot of things people were sure about in terms of public institutions first.
