Just listening- “still confusion on self ID”

OP posts:

Do not underestimate Belchers influence on the Lib Dem’s. They’ve been involved for years & are close with Paul Burstow erstwhile chair of Tavistock & Portman & I believe baroness barker nominated belcher for their OBE

Crunchyb · 25/07/2023 09:06

Yes people are turned down for GRCs but I don't know the numbers. Amoung the reasons given were that they were pedophiles! I suspect they weed out fetishists too. I can see why they want to get rid of the medical panel

I think the fetishists are meant to be weeded out at the doctor stage but there is a lot of internet coaching on what to say and what not to say to doctors to get the desired result. Many years ago I landed on a forum where clear autogynephiles were told to keep that quiet at their doctor’s appointment.

OldCrone · 25/07/2023 09:09

Interesting tweet from For Women Scotland about Belcher.

You should be able to see this even if you're not on twitter.

RealityFan · 25/07/2023 09:10

So, a Labour spokesperson declined the opportunity to go on? You'd think with Dodds' announcement yesterday, Labour would be raring to explain the new caring and sharing initiative. But no, left to the activist wing of the activist party to take part.

RoyalCorgi · 25/07/2023 09:11

Belcher also sat on a Stonewall advisory group with Aimee Challenor. Not a very nice person.

And, apparently, declining to appear on any media.Confused It's a strange way to trumpet a new policy. Very half-hearted.

PronounssheRa · 25/07/2023 09:23

It's concerning that Dodds isn't taking part in any press given she just announced a significant policy

Is it that she doesn't agree with it, can't explain it, can't set out details, cant define what they mean with various terms they use.

If they want votes they need to be able to explain their policy to the public.

WinterTrees · 25/07/2023 09:26

Thanks for the info about the GRC refusals. Very interesting.

I've always been baffled by the narrative around the 'inhumanity' of the process and felt like I was missing something. As pp said, why would you NOT have to provide paperwork and some sort of evidence or proof of genuine intent to change your entire identity? It's not without precedent. I feel like this is always glossed over, and most people would absolutely see the safeguarding sense in a certain level of scrutiny.

Interesting to hear interviewer refervto Isla Bryson as "he".

That will be because the BBC is still committed to gender ideology - and of course if a trans identified person ever does anything bad/wrong/naughtythis automatically means they are "not really trans" and so their actual sex can be referred to.

RebelliousCow · 25/07/2023 09:37

SunnyEgg · 25/07/2023 08:00

The shadow equality minister declined invitation to come on

That is who needs to explain the detail

Who gets to go into which single sex spaces etc

That's because she knows she would be skewered by even the slightest challenging question. If this is such a big deal; a U turn; a breakthrough - surely the minsister responsibile would want to be on hand to explain it?

GloGirl · 25/07/2023 09:41

Madcats · 25/07/2023 07:59

I had to smile when the councillor said that none of their constituents talk about trans issues when they are out knocking on doors.

If Beth Rigby hadn't done that interview last week, I wonder whether R4 would have bothered to cover the Guardian article?

The Today Show has been great at covering these topics, before the rest of R4.

I thought Rosie Duffield did well - not antagonistic. Advising, clear, slight push on Labour to continue to do more.

Says a lot that Labour would not advertise this policy shift with official interviews etc. At least they're stepping in the right direction.

BinturongsSmellOfPopcorn · 25/07/2023 09:42

You do if you want to change your citizenship (a much smaller chnage) - paperwork, interviews, tests, huge fees ...

I certainly wouldn't talk about trans issues to Belcher if Belcher knocked on my door. Has Belcher stopped to consider why women might not bring this up?

dolorsit · 25/07/2023 09:53

I do find it very hyperbolic the way this "intrusive" process is framed.

Compare to the process of claiming any disability benefits, claiming asylum, proving residency, or acquiring citizenship.

It's a paper exercise- hell, claiming UC or applying for a job is probably more intrusive.

Claiming UC and disability benefits involve continuing assessments as well. And private investigators, snitch hotlines, press releases about "Fraud". Not to mention sanctions, fines and prison.

Ramblingnamechanger · 25/07/2023 09:59

If they make the GRC easier to get then it will effectively be self ID. I would really like to hear the reasons why it should be so much easier than getting eg citizenship, disability benefits etc. I would like Alex Sobel to be on the programme defending the right of males to be imprisoned with women. Has he changed his tune?

ValuableWoman · 25/07/2023 10:01

I’m a bit concerned that by being so undercover in their change of tack, it will be remarkably easy to change back again once installed in Number 10.

Labour know this is a major issue for women, and as Rosie Duffield rightly said this morning, something that almost every woman she speaks to has concerns over. By not being quoted publicly, KS could axe AD at some point and cry “Witch! Witch!” at her and then all back to normal boys…

Gagagardener · 25/07/2023 10:03

Has anyone a link/clip/ precise timing for this item? I've skipped through today's Today programme but failed to find it.

Cycleorrun · 25/07/2023 10:09

Very weird not to want to answer questions on a new policy. Suggests to me this is simply a muddy the waters exercise to try and persuade wavering, previously Labour voters, to stay on board. Obfuscation at its best. I think it's solved my dilemma. I cannot vote for a party that takes me for a fool.

MrsOvertonsWindow · 25/07/2023 10:10

Labour will never put up anyone to speak about this. They know it's shot full of holes, incoherent, anti women & child safeguarding and based on outright lies (see the Stonewall statement today).
No matter how hard they try to pacify the trans extremists, journalists are always going to challenge them and we can watch them look like fools - again.

The time is 1:36.40.

Important interview. Whatever your opinion on Labour is it is pretty clear the leadership are SCARED. They also are in a bind. They basically have admitted LWD and Rosie were right about self ID and Scottish/Welsh Labour were wrong.

They want to avoid questions. They want to avoid giving clear answers that ties them to difficult positions.

However they didn't think this through. If they keep refusing interviews Rosie does them instead. The questions keep coming.

Gagagardener · 25/07/2023 10:22

If anyone wants to listen on the Sounds app, it is at 1.36 and a few second.

Gagagardener · 25/07/2023 10:25

Sorry, @fromorbit . I found it eventually, then saw your post. Agree with what you say. And thank goodness for Rosie!

RoyalCorgi · 25/07/2023 10:31

All of those would be my guess.
