I was heartened to see they were finally addressing the topic.... then I listened to it 🙈

Oh I can only imagine 🤦🏻‍♂️ I listened to about one and a half episodes of TGF a few years ago and that was enough to put me off for life. The smugness, the giggling, the utter inanity of it.. just dreadful

StephanieSuperpowers · 23/07/2023 08:09

They are the least feminist feminists ever. Ho ho ho manspreading! Chuckle chuckle toilet seats! All the big issues. My sides.

CappucinoAndCornetto · 23/07/2023 08:27

Listened to the first FIVE minutes and heard the following...

Apparently GC feminism is a far right thing, the transwoman would literally have committed suicide if women hadn't let TW into their bathrooms and that they would give all your husbands a blowjob if they had to go into male toilets.

Oh they also said that GC women haven't even thought of asking for a third space so TW don't get raped in the mens & have to commit suicide!

Farcical nonsense if it wasn't so fucking prevalent. How DARE they call this a feminist podcast?!

'How DARE they call this a feminist podcast?!'

Well exactly. I read the episode synopsis on Spotify and saw 'cis women' and that was enough for me. Shame on everyone involved in this, they're a disgrace

BernardBlacksMolluscs · 23/07/2023 10:23

I wonder what their audience numbers are? I can hear sexist nonsense in all sorts of places so I don't need to listen to their podcast to get it (so I won't!)

SirCharlesRainier · 23/07/2023 10:57

A few months ago I listened to the episode where that bloke who runs Edinburgh rape crisis said words to the effect that bigots get raped too and need to be educated. I'd read about it on here I think and wanted to listen for myself.

It was as enraging as you'd expect and a struggle to get through, because of the issues themselves and also just the sheer annoyingness of the presenters.

So nothing to add, really, except that what you've said here doesn't surprise me

WifeOfTiresias · 23/07/2023 12:27

I just read the introductory blurb and could see what direction it would take without even playing the podcast.

Liberal use of "cis women", "transphobic", "mainstream media attempts to pitch cis women against their trans counterparts".

Just f*ck off.

Hotfeetcoldfeet · 23/07/2023 12:29

Oh I know! I went to see the podcast live with a friend and it was so unfeminist I couldn’t bear it! Load of absolute rubbish

Lottapianos · 23/07/2023 12:34

'I went to see the podcast live with a friend and it was so unfeminist I couldn’t bear it!'

Oh my god, you must have wanted to run out screaming 🤦🏻‍♂️

WifeOfTiresias · 23/07/2023 12:37

Was that at the BFI? Very disappointed in them hosting such smug rubbish.

You should have asked for a refund on the basis of the Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Regulations 2008.

Romitofrincone · 23/07/2023 12:45

The Guilty Feminist is a misnomer. The Shameless Men’s Rights Activist is more like it. So tired of these simpering handmaidens.

Backstreets · 23/07/2023 12:47

that bloke who runs Edinburgh rape crisis said words to the effect that bigots get raped too and need to be educated

He really gives me the rage. Thank god for Beira’s place.

I remember Sofie Hagen starting this podcast so I knew it would never be for me. She had some potential early on but the obvious self loathing under the girl boss surface is too much for me to handle. Just the fucking title alone.

BillyBraggisnotmylover · 23/07/2023 12:59

I used to listen to this and found it quite entertaining, and they had some excellent guests in the early days. Nimco Ali talking about FGM sticks in the mind. But I remember an episode where they had a TW who had been held at an airport - I can’t remember their name - who spoke over all the female guests and was intensely irritating. And then they kept bringing them back. Then all the hosts were full TWAW and I gave up.

Oddly a sketch by Sofie Hagen popped up on my social media yesterday about pronouns that presented pronouns like a big “gotcha” game - not a life or death thing like we keep being told. Wish they’d make their minds up.

I quite like Sofie H

It worries me that young, impressionable women will think this is feminism

'Thank god for Beira’s place.'

I was just thinking about Beira's Place the other day and what a marvellous thing it is that JKR has done. Talk about putting your money where your mouth is. How ironic that joke feminists like the Guilty Feminist lot think she's the devil incarnate. She gives a hell of a lot more of a shit about women than they ever have

I haven't listened to that in years. Even before I became aware of all the terfy issues, I remember trying an episode and finding it quite ridiculous.
Iirc it was all being about making a statement as a feminist by wearing jeans instead of skirts, and eating dinner on your own in a restaurant. All things that I'd been doing for years, quite unaware that it was a big deal to do as a woman. 🙄
Very, very shallow.

TheGreatATuin · 23/07/2023 15:46

It's pretty much what it would look like if Carrie Bradshaw decided to dip her toes into feminism as this week's fashion trend.

I remember Sofie Hagen starting this podcast

Well that tells me all I need to know. I had the misfortune to see Hagen a few years ago and fuck me, I’ve had more fun at a smear test. The absolute low point - and trust me, there were many - was when she paraded around stage in her very feminine lingerie having told us all, at length, that she was non-binary. Needy, attention-seeking nonsense at its worst.

There wasn’t enough alcohol in the interval bar to deal with that shit. Thankfully the warm up act was excellent, although he did just highlight how fucking awful Hagen was.

Yes, I am still pissed off that I paid to see this, does it show?

Ereshkigalangcleg · 24/07/2023 09:22

It's toothless feminism for people who don't really understand what the purpose of feminism is.

@SidewaysOtter what was the context of her parading around in lingerie, if I may ask? I thought she was (supposedly) a stand-up comedian?

SidewaysOtter · 24/07/2023 11:09

@SirCharlesRainier I think it was something to do with body positivity. TBH, I can remember very little about what she said (other than it just not being funny) because every fibre of me wanted to go home. If I hadn't been giving a lift to others I'd have left at the interval!
