(Just to clarify, I didn't drink anything at the interval because I was driving!)

I used to love it. I really liked how it developed and became more nuanced and diverse. It's the first place I heard a lot of very decent comedians. I turned off the episode with the trans woman researcher because I didn't think he was particularly interesting and just sounded bored. The tipping point for me was the Edinburgh rape crisis thing. After seeing their post on twitter about not tolerating hate I just hit unfollow and unsubscribe. The episode with Joan and Jerricha was v v funny.

I listened in the early years but as other say, it very quickly turned what about the menz and I stopped. Is Deborah Frances White no longer hosting it?

She is, as far as I know. Think Sofie Hagen dropped out after the first couple of series? I think that’s about when I stopped listening because I had been terfinated by then.

Redshoeblueshoe · 24/07/2023 11:30

Terfinated - great word. I have started asking men have they ever seen a TW in the men's toilets. Not a single one has. Strange that . . .

Listened to the first FIVE minutes and heard the following...

Apparently GC feminism is a far right thing, the transwoman would literally have committed suicide if women hadn't let TW into their bathrooms and that they would give all your husbands a blowjob if they had to go into male toilets.

Oh they also said that GC women haven't even thought of asking for a third space so TW don't get raped in the mens & have to commit suicide!

Farcical nonsense if it wasn't so fucking prevalent. How DARE they call this a feminist podcast?!

Well I guess you can be anything as long as you identify as it.

I don't see them as feminists. For-men-ists maybe 🤔

MinnieMountain · 24/07/2023 11:36

I used to listen to it. Went off it after I saw it live and one of the guest “comedians” sang a song which had a line comparing JK Rowling to Vladimir Putin.

Oh how fucking hilarious 🙄 they're a bunch of smug muppets

I used to enjoy it, it was very funny and gave space to new female comedians. They had a big thing about the strengths of diversity that I appreciated. But I stopped listening a few years ago as it became a bit tedious, the “feminists” lacked agency and critical thinking skills, especially DFW (who I have quite a soft spot for) very much assuming they were in the wrong for not knowing everything, offering themselves up for reeducation from a narrow academic lens and focusing on “being kind” that I felt was quite dangerous. Quite biased against actual women’s issues that needed nuanced discussion unless it was something like FGM that everyone agrees is awful. Vulnerable women not having access to toilets because they don’t want to be in proximity to individuals with penises would have been met with an eye roll and the advice to “woman up and get on with it” that didn’t sit right with me so I stopped listening. If it could have been just a little more balanced and addressed uncomfortable topics without acting like we’re monsters for not going along with being shamed into being kind I would still be listening.

BillyBraggisnotmylover · 24/07/2023 12:45

The irony is not lost on me that one of DFW’s stand up shows was about leaving a “cult” (JW) and yet here she is championing another.

Oh gosh, I had heard the cult story but never made the link until now 🤦🏻‍♂️ I really want to like DFW - when I've seen her interviewed about other stuff, she seems smart and brave and assertive but she's such an utter disappointment when it comes to actually giving a shit about women as opposed to going for the woke points

Thanks. I just looked at the episode notes of the one linked above and didn't see her name and wondered if she was still around. I too think she's an interesting and intelligent speaker about her life on JW and its impacts, so also find it frustrating that she doesn't see the parallels.
