the only way I can see angle grinding a penis is NOT sexual is if it's a reference to castration.

Either way, it's not CBeebies.

OP posts:
ArabeIIaScott · 18/07/2023 16:46

And of course there are quite a lot of men who seem to think that castration is a sexual thing, too. I keep forgetting.

- I hope his clothes are fire retardant. -

I'm not fussed if he isn't.

Fair enough, but I'm thinking of what could happen if he went up like a torch. He'd run round and someone else could be injured.

I'm sure someone's standing by with a fire blanket or a tranquilizer gun.

mrshoho · 18/07/2023 16:50

That's a great theme park for families and when we've been, the entertainers were young, enthusiastic park staff who do a fab job. I'd have been so pissed off to stumble across this tasteless and talentless crap. I wish the audience had just walked away. It looked like at least one child was embarrassed. I'm very glad the CEO has reflected and acknowledged it was wrong.

Eloweeese · 18/07/2023 17:10

I know Phillip Miller. He won't be tolerating any of that crap again

LizzieSiddal · 18/07/2023 17:30

Its a shame the bosses of those art galleries and libraries who push the Drag stuff to children, don’t react in the same way as him.

Peony654 · 18/07/2023 17:31

It’s not hard. If you don’t like it, don’t go.

Jellycats4life · 18/07/2023 17:33

Crotch angle grinding literally seem to be his only act. He did it on Drag Race and that was years ago. How edgy <yawn>

Also, I know that theme park well and the fact that they’d even book a drag queen to do some crotch angle grinding to passing crowds of Southend day trippers is just so bizarre. What were they thinking?

ArabeIIaScott · 18/07/2023 17:34

Peony654 · 18/07/2023 17:31

Is this your response to all adults performing sex shows for children?

MrsOvertonsWindow · 18/07/2023 17:37

Now that's a proper apology from a business aware of their target audience (at the beginning of the summer holidays)!
And he recognises how "inclusivity" can rebound on a business when the lack of boundaries are exposed to horrified parents of young children.

LizzieSiddal · 18/07/2023 17:38

It’s not hard. If you don’t like it, don’t go.

At least the owners of this children’s park are much more into safeguarding children than you.

GretaGip · 18/07/2023 17:40

To my old lady eyes those sparks look like ejaculate.

So that's nice.

vivariumvivariumsvivaria · 18/07/2023 17:43

And he does this act regularly? That is not going to end with a full quota of testicles.

That would be awful.

ArabeIIaScott · 18/07/2023 17:44

I tried to do a bit of research on crotch-angle-grinding.

Unfortunately Reddit has age-restricted a thread on it.

Can't think why, pure wholesome entertainment for the kiddies, surely?

Here's the woman who did this on Britain's Got Talent.

Tacky as fuck, but leaving that aside, this also isn't suitable for children.

And here are a couple of women doing it for Bonfire Night in a small town. Again, tacky, not suitable children etc.

Britain's Got Talent - Victoria + Grinder - FULL HQ VERSION

The VERY sexy Victoria on Britain's Got Talent, featuring her axle grinder. She completely flabbergasts the judges with her sexy performance!

Simon Cowell said it turned him on.

If this isn't sexualised, then why is it turning men on? Piers Morgan also has plenty to say about how 'sexy' he finds the performance.

This might sound bold, but hear me out - I'm going to say any performance that involves genitals is not suitable for children.

OP posts:
Jellycats4life · 18/07/2023 18:03

I agree the apology from the CEO was decent, but what jumps out is “We tried to be inclusive”.

Which proves that they don’t have a clue. They are glibly box ticking and patting themselves on the back for being so of the zeitgeist.

The libraries and toddler groups who book adult entertainers also don’t have a clue. Any family oriented space who tries to be inclusive (I’d love to actually grill them as to what “inclusive” means to them - do they mean “diversity”, which then somehow jumps right to “yay drag queens”?)

🤷‍♀️

RoseslnTheHospital · 18/07/2023 18:05

@Peony654 it was put on at a theme park for children, so anyone going to the park with their children that day would have potentially walked past. I have no issues with a sexualised angle grinding act at a ticketed venue for over 18s. This was not that.

ScrollingLeaves · 18/07/2023 18:48

The stupid audience seemed to love it.

It would certainly ruin any chance of an encore.

Aside from the outfit he's wearing, I can't get over the "look kids you know those tools in the shed we've told you never ever to touch, well watch this man hold one of against his groin for fun. See the pretty sparks "

I mean what could possibly happen once back home?!?

Well, it's a novel way to encourage children to part with their genitalia from this movement.

It looked like at least one child was embarrassed

My Mother was incapable of telling which situations embarrassed her children so we got exposed to many adult occasions and situations that we really shouldn't have. I always thought she was an outlier. Obviously not. There seems to be lots of parents recently that can't tell the difference between their child being bored, shy or mortified with embarrassment.

Annaishere · 18/07/2023 23:28

I wouldn’t mind my teenager watching it and I can see the entertainment aspect, but inappropriate for young children

NatashaDancing · 19/07/2023 00:15

MadamPickle · 18/07/2023 09:25

I'm a regular visitor to covent garden (as mentioned in the article) and the street performers there don't simulate masturbating with power tools. So he's wrong on that score.

Same here. I've never seen anything like this at Covent Garden.

ArabeIIaScott · 19/07/2023 07:51

The other acts I found that incorporated the same stunt were women. (I have vague memories of angle grinding acts in adult shows that included fetishstic material but couldn't find refs. As fas as I recall these were also women).

Hence his insinuation that its 'transphobic' for people to complain.

It's no accident. Whoever described drag as 'sex clowns' had it spot on. The whole statement might have been pre written.

What I think they've miscalculated is that everyone recognises a bloke doing this to an audience of children at a family fun fair is very different to a.woman doing it for an audience of adults.
