' CEO, Philip Miller MBE, said the company will not be participating in any future Pride celebrations.
He said: “We humbly apologise to all of our loyal customers for any offence caused.
“There was confusion between us and the act as to what we would allow or not as it were.
“The grinding act was most definitely a nonstarter as we are ostensibly a family park and that is just not family entertainment.
“Rest assured we will not be rebooking this act or participate in any future PRIDE celebrations it is just not for us, we tried to be inclusive, but it has backfired on us.”

I'm glad the park apologised, but maybe drag should not be allowed in this sort of place full stop, I mean it's not exactly Les Dawson doing his old lady over the wall chat, is it?

LizzieSiddal · 18/07/2023 13:47

“Rest assured we will not be…participating in any future PRIDE celebrations”

Wow, the adults have finally entered the room.

ArabeIIaScott · 18/07/2023 13:49

'we tried to be inclusive, but it has backfired on us.”

You xan hear the gritted teeth as he realises that 'inclusive' actually means 'removing boundaries', and that actually means adult men performing sex acts in front of children.

Actually, I think that's a very level-headed apology - we tried to do the 'in' thing, we were clueless about the whole thing, we got into hot water, we won't be doing it again.

Pretty sure similar scenarios are happening up and down the country, some of them without apology.

well, he is hiding in plain site here. He's using that word "ostensibly" but i don't think it means what he thinks it means

OSTENSIBLY | English meaning - Cambridge Dictionary

ostensibly

1. in a way that appears or claims to be one thing when it is really something…

I really hate that this is being presented as progressive, family-friendly entertainment. It's not. I've seen plenty of drag queens in real life, and in each instance they represented an over-sexualised, generally misogynistic worldview that is in no way appropriate for children.

I'm not really sure how supporting drag queens became synonymous with supporting gay rights: drag queens might be part of that subculture, but so are lots of things that I don't want my young children exposed to (e.g., BDSM).

RealityFan · 18/07/2023 14:36

Yeah, and the parents filming on their phones, their kids next to them absorbing the lot.

Beowulfa · 18/07/2023 14:43

Compare the clear and honest wording of the park CEO's response to the usual mealy-mouthed sulky non-apology served up by the usual suspects in PR.

RealityFan · 18/07/2023 14:45

Anyone ever feel that Monty Python/Little Britain came to life and invaded the real world?

ArabeIIaScott · 18/07/2023 14:54

Ah, just to inform you all - any criticism of this act is 'homophobia'. Apparently.

In which case, I wonder if he could pitch it for broadcast on national telly before 9pm and let us know what happens.

INteresting that you say that. BBC next week has a programme about the archaism and offensiveness of blackface. I'm sure the week after there'll be one about the offensiveness of drag and its parody of women and how many women find it problematic and insulting.

Not holding my breath, though.

I agree. A reasonable, adult response.

Ah, usual thing, in hindsight it was a mistake. Why doesn't anyone ever realise that beforehand?

I'm not fussed if he isn't.

Fair enough, but I'm thinking of what could happen if he went up like a torch. He'd run round and someone else could be injured.

They'd rather run the anger of their paying customers first than their headless chickens activist staff.

Of course, the shit will always hit the fan...eventually.

Plenty of people think drag is just the thing for kids - loud, glittery, brightly coloured. And 'inclusive' - bonus!

That drag is riddled with misogyny in its caricatures of women is never going to be a big issue with most of society, which is generally comfortable with sexism.

A genre born out of specifically male culture, predicated on the idea of men mocking females, and often incorporating or revolving around sex/adult humour and references is generally not really best suited for children, but it's apparently 'bigotry' to say so.

The fact that the act includes literal crotch-grinding, however, is apparently a step too far.

He can angle grind his penis to oblivion if he wants , it won’t grow back as a clitoris .
