Urinals closed in men's toilets

Yesterday I saw a sign on the men's toilets in my local shopping centre saying that the urinals were now closed to increase inclusivity for trans-men. Has anyone else seen this near them?

This is exactly what we need. Make it a pain for men.

I bet it gets resolved quickly

Just so long as the options aren't switched to

Men (currently identifying as men and wanting to use urinals)

Everybody else.

That tends to be the 'fast' and cheap solution. Just dump everything on women to manage.

Really? It’s the kind of thing I’d expect to see making headlines.

This has been going on for years and not only in service stations. If you say anything you are told no-one else objects and anyway 'I'm wearing a lanyard'. I dout even if there are sexual assaults it will stop - it's cheaper.

Boiledbeetle · 17/07/2023 11:07

Well unless they've completely boxed the urinals off this won't work, because if they've just stuck some out of order signs on a piece of string type get up over them men will just piss in them anyway.

Sorry there was a cross post. I was addressing the original post/urinals closed, not the motorway services point.

Never heard of this, and it's a looney idea. The whole point of urinals is to speed throughput. As noted above, how does removing a facility help anyone?

The work urinals were taped off for two years due to covid. No one used them despite them whinging when there was a queue. Depending on the layout hazard tape is a really effective barrier.

If this is the case, then yes I'm suspicious of real motives. But if it's about protecting women who identify as men from having to walk past men with their penises out then really it's confirming that mixed sex toilets don't work.

However men will get cross about this, and generally when a man kicks off it has a much bigger effect than a woman.

Agree with this. It will serve to peak some men who have been passed by all this nonsense though.

PatatiPatatras · 17/07/2023 12:23

This is so ridiculous that I refuse to believe this is a post in good faith and it is made up hogwash. I think some schools are out for the summer.

LonginesPrime · 17/07/2023 13:37

Is this so that other people don't think that trans men are going for a poo?

The problem is that cubicles in male toilets are often vandalised (more in pubs than shopping centres tbf) and some men will piss all over the seats and floor, which make them… unappealing… to use for those of us that weren’t raised in a frigging barn.

The centre will have to be all over the cleaning and maintenance to make this work, and it’ll be interesting to see if currently unpeaked men start taking notice.

That's what I was thinking. They will have to take on more cleaners.

I don't believe this, sounds like a hoax to me.

Agreed. Won't even name the town, let alone take a quick snap, as it's 'outing'? Pull the other one. It's got bells on it.

Maddy70 · 17/07/2023 14:24

Could it be so that all users use a cubicle. So they feel comfortable rather than get their Willie's out to all and sundry?

Yes, I agree.

Even if it is true that there's a sign, it sounds more like a random person has put it up to make a point rather than it being something official.

To remove a facility that benefits men is so contrary to the values of gender identity ideology that it seems highly unlikely that this is legit.

MardiMoo · 17/07/2023 14:42

…also I have it in good authority that some men use urinals in the less salubrious parts of town for both pee AND poo if there is a line. I know disgusting, but there we are.

RealityFan · 17/07/2023 15:43

The way men piss on the floor in public toilets, it's immaterial if there are any urinals at all.
No lol.

FreedomDrops · 17/07/2023 15:52

If that sign exists at all it's a hoax!

And hypothetically if it isn't then men will (quite rightly) ignore it. People at work during COVID might have been more compliant in a public-health emergency. People in a shopping centre with queues for the bogs who want to pee will ignore what is blatant bollocks.

From what I've heard it's not uncommon for men to shit on the floor next to the basins and even in the basins.

I hope to not live to see that day.

greenspaces4peace · 17/07/2023 15:58

Men pee everywhere on anything, some will use the urinals regardless, or the corner of the floor, the waste bin, the sink.

RealityFan · 17/07/2023 16:03

My GF is no fan of most of the female loos she has to inhabit. Literally no bed of fragrant roses. I've told her Starmer and Ash Sarkar have no issue with her using the Mens, but she's resisted the urge so far, lol.

ZairWazAnOldLady · 17/07/2023 09:58

I’m confused as to why it would be terrifying to photograph or the town needs to be unmentionable. Seems an odd reason to remove urinals.

"Pics or it didn't happen"

MathiasBroucek · 17/07/2023 09:49

So now the queue for the gents will be just as long as the one for the ladies... 🤔

Nah it won't. Every time one of us walks in and the cubicles are full, we're just going to use the urinal anyway. They're going to have to physically remove the urinals before we stop.

Well, I just hope this is all covered in the information pack that I assume all transmen receive before they make a final decision on whether or not they want to transition.

It sounds very, erm, kind that shopping centres might be removing all the urinals in their honour, but I can't imagine that's what they're envisaging when they contemplate "trans joy".
